- In between main entries in my Halo Infinite story breakdown, I'll be producing smaller videos like this, exploring certain topics in greater detail. Today we ask: have Lock & Hyperius ever met? And if Hyperius is sporting Locke's old Mjolnir, where did he get it?

Locke is known for abandoning armor if the situation calls for it as seen in nightfall. Considering how clean and undamaged the armor is, it's unlikely it was forcefully removed. Not to mention during the last mission in halo 5, Locke's armor took a beating from the guardian to the point where it nearly stopped working.
Edit: Apparently Tovarus calls hyperius a coward when you kill him before Tovarus. That and Hyperius mentions he let Locke crawling away but that's not what Spartan killers do. Maybe the armor and helmet was gotten dishonorably even by banished standards and that Hyperius is making up how he got it.
Also in that encounter if you kill Tovarus first Hyperius sends really hard warriors to kill you while if you kill Hyperius first the reinforcements are not as bad.

3:15 True. The Hunter variant was my favourite MJOLNIR design of Halo 5, and often sported it in multiplayer.
From appearance’s it looks lightweight and less restricting. In situations where maneuverability is key I can see others requisitioning that kit.
I certainly would.
I'd like it if, rather than just ditching the idea of the heavily integrated boosters we see in Halo 5, that's changed to be present in only a specific class of Mjolnir Mark VII.
That way, Locke and Chief could potentially play differently, and stand separate as different styles of Spartans.
It’d be hilarious if Locke flew in to rendezvous with the Infinity, only to see that it was attacked/crashed. He goes to the wreckage to retrieve his gear, only to find it missing. (Insert “Where’s my supersuit?!” joke here.)
Enraged, Locke goes out onto Zeta Halo to track down his armor. he finds that it’s being worn by Hyperious and goes looking for him.
Chief finds Hyperious, and just as he’s about to question where that helmet came from, Locke dives in and kicks Hyperious in the nuts before retrieving his armor.
If they make a Locke DLC, they need to make it play like a Ghost Recon/Splinter Cell/MGS-like experience with a heavy emphasis on stealth and infiltration
new mechanics and armor abilities would be welcome too
the Locke DLC needs to be like the COD4 mission Ghillies in the Mist

As a big fan of Locke its unfortunate that we won't be getting any definitive answers to the fate of a lot of unsc characters for a long time.
I think it would be disappointing to just kill Locke off, so I really hope this is correct! He may not have been the most popular character but I’d rather see them change and improve the character instead of killing him off-screen.
The only playable "Halo" character to die off screen is the Rookie, and I don't think 343 wants to repeat that disappointment.
Current modern day gaming story telling:
People don't like X, better kill it off of screen and forget it happened.

I hope Locke returns in a big way for the next game. I like his character and I think if it's done right, he could be a fan favorite
I don't think the community at large out right dislikes Locke, people just think it's lame that all of his background can only be ascertained through external media, that and we were stuck with him instead of Chief.
It's kind of the Roman Reigns effect - it's not that we dislike him in particular, but everything around him that he's saddled with.

Locke WAS a fan favorite before Halo 5 released. Everyone thought his armor looked cool and he seemed like a badass. The thing people didnt like about him was being way too dark and brooding, and especially cramping Master Cheifs overwhelming style.
For him to be redeemed in the eyes if most fans, they should bring him back with more of the personality he had in the Halo 2 Anniversary cutscene: Still serious, but has the ability to jest and crack banter like Noble Team. Oh, and of course, make him a side-main-character like the Arbiter and not an attempt as the NEW main character!

The radio grunt we find throughout the campaign did mention about Locke and Hyperius
I was about to mention the same thing. I know we can’t take the radio grunt too seriously (it is propaganda after all), but surely it implies that Locke and Hyperius have at least met in the past?
@@Nighterlev Just seems kind of weird on Hyperius’ part then. Not much of trophy if he just picked up off the ground. It’d be like if the skull on Tartarus’ shoulder was just picked up off the ground. Furthermore, it’d be a weird decision on 343i’s part. Why even have hunter armor on a Spartan killer like Hyperius if the goal was not to imply that they’ve at least fought once? (Btw I should say that I don’t want Locke to be dead, just pointing out how bizarre it is to add these details if they mean nothing).

@@josh11735 I think I heard somewhere hyperius simply bested locke in combat (so deserved the armour as a trophy) but sent locke back to infinity as a message. So im guessing locke isn't dead but his pride is likely replaced with a vengeful hate towards the banished
@@Nighterlev I don't even remember where I got it from. It might just be a theory video for all I know. It might even be from this channel. But because I can't give you a source, obviously don't take it as canon for now but it's still an interesting thought and it's plausible
There is a propaganda tower message in game from a grunt talking about Locke and Hyperious and how he uses his helmet as shoulder armor now

Spartan Locke campaign DLC would be so LiT. I wish we could’ve gotten more background details on the Spartan Killers in infinite. Their character designs are so badass to overlook

Well they met even u hear that grunt talking about Locke and hyperis also if u see that mega blocks toy it shows Locke with out armor and it says Locke as he appears in halo infinite
That's his Nightfall look when they get rid of all their armor and the gear, the packaging and stand say nothing about infinite
It says how he appears in halo infinite him and hyperis did meet and fight I would say it happen on reach caz it clearly didn't happen on zeta halo or the infinity
@@garylococo2401 it doesn't say anywhere that is his infinite appearance it's more reminiscent of his look in nightfall in the later half of the show also Locke was never on reach
@@Nighterlev yes it does there is a comms tower in the campaign where a grunt talks about Locke and hyperis so yes they met and fought and hyperis took his helmet and chest plate
This is why Campaign DLCs should be made. 343 is literally missing out, big time.
This could be a way 343 can replace Locke's GEN2 armour with GEN3 redesign. If we do end up playing as him or meeting him, it would make more sense for him to have upgraded to GEN3
Spartans replace their GEN2 armors with the GEN3 as soon as the latter was available. 343 don't need an excuse to have Locke with a new GEN3 armor.
A part of me feels like they originally were going to kill off Locke off-screen, but its possible someone on the writing team said "Wait, we are killing off the UNSC Infinity, Cortana, the Created...maybe also killing off Locke is a bit much?" and at least one other person agreed, which is when they added in the allusions to him still being alive, and in my opinion thats for the best!
So the thing is, that helmet doesn't (in any material I've seen) have the yellow triangular bit of paint Locke's has.
I should have mentioned that specifically. Still, even without that, I do think it's meant to be Locke's armor, simply because of how synonymous it is with Locke (like how Mk. VI is synonymous w/ Chief)
@@HaloCanon yup that's true, and also people in other comments are reminding me that the Propaganda Grunt mentioned Locke and Hyperious fighting and the SPARTAN losing, so now I feel a little silly for arguing with a detail that's easy to completely overlook.

@@Void_tear3123 the clear implication in the voice line is that Locke and Hyperious fought, and the Jiralhanae was the victor.
I was told that Hyperius and Locke did fight but afterwards stripped Locke's armor armor wore it as a trophy while Locke was sparred and went back to the infinity as a warning
I’m almost 100% certain that with the IWHBYD skull Hyperius mentions fighting Locke and sending him back to the UNSC.
The propaganda grunt says something about it
Breakertrip - i.e. to trip a breaker thus cutting off power in the case of emergency. It’s probably something anti-promethean/ created

He was talking about Hyperius
It's likely for hyperius that him and tovarus were looting the unsc infinity and found spare armor because in infinite we don't hear about there encounter with each other but if they did meet each other and fight it would of been cool to maybe see in the back ground hyperius and locke fighting when you see atriox and chief fighting .
Maybe kickstand is that Spartan Vale operation with the Arbiter
In one of the grunt radio towers there’s a line where glibnub says hyperios beat locke up or something
If memory serves me right a cut piece of audio for the ending had them finding his signal tag as they are in the pelican.

Perhaps Locke is a prisoner of the banished
Locke is ONI, so he knows how to survive and carry out is missions without Mjolnir armor. If he did have an encounter against Hyperion, he probably dropped his armor as a distraction to escape like he did in "Halo: Nightfall." Being a typical Brute, Hyperion would claim the kill and Locke's armor as a trophy even without confirming Locke's *supposed* death.
Locke shouldnt mess with Hyperion, then he has to find Lilith and Roland & fight Handsome jack
Honestly, I would like it if the Locke DLC we get is the players playing as a squad of ODSTs or Fireteam Crimson and running interference or sabotage missions against the Banished while Locke acts as a handler for the missions while also trying to rally scattered UNSC forces to join them. Would make for interesting stealth missions and HVTs to eliminate and Banished infrastructure and supply lines to sabotage.
Maybe the squad or team you're playing as get captured or pinned down by a Skirmisher Spartan Killer from the art book that we never got to see in game and we get a mission or two where we play as Locke to either rescue or assist them since UNSC forces are still too spread out to send a proper QRF or extraction team.
However, it makes one wonder what Locke has been up to since the time of the first cutscene of Halo Infinite and the start of the game six months after the loss of Infinity.
But you can also wonder: What happened to the rest of Blue Team? It is a FACT that, like Locke, they WEREN'T on Infinity when it was attacked. The audio logs clearly state that they were deployed on their own mission after it was changed from them 'assisting' Master Chief in his mission to deploy the 'Weapon'. A mission made by Captain Laskey much to the annoyance of Halsey since she had her own mission for them.
And with 'Breaker Trip'? Well, I think that you may already thought of this. I think that the name means something. I'm not sure since 'Operation: WOLFE', the mission that we know in the story 'Shadows of Reach', had its name not really mean anything...in my point of view unless I'm wrong.
Does the name of 'Operation: WOLFE', the mission of Blue Team on Reach to retrieve what was on the former ONI base, have any meaning to the nature of the mission itself?
Anyway, I'm saying that I think that the name of 'Breaker Trip' has the meaning of referring to an electric 'breaker' when it is a 'tripped' causing a loss of electric power to a facility, house, or other kind of man-made structure with electronics, which is usually practically any modern-day man-made structure. When the 'breaker' is 'tripped', the place has no power until the 'breaker' is reset, unless there is more that's needed to be done.
'Breaker Trip' could be a series of operations to disable Created 'operations' and that 'disablement' don't need to be permanent. The 'loss' in Created 'operations' could be needed to be long enough for the next stages of 'Breaker Trip' to go ahead along with other operations, including what happened on Zeta Halo.
Here is the thing: Where were the Created forces when Infinity made their move on Cortana? All that we know is that when the planned to make their move on Cortana on Zeta Halo, they were surprised attacked by the Banished. But what about the Created forces? Where were they?

I think Locke switched to Mark VII and his hunter armor was put in storage and Hyperious found it either in the wreckage or even while invading infinity though it is unlikely that he would be able to access the storage room where the armor was located in the five minutes it took to take out the infinity because the storage room was probably locked up tight if it had armor in it worth as much as a frigate. But, it might not even be Lockes because if you look closely the visor has a greenish tint at some angles, while in halo 5 it was electric blue. Just saying.
I mean at the end of the day is Locke's Hunter class armor exclusive to him? There are hundreds of Spartan IVs and plenty of them could also have backgrounds as ONI agents just like Locke
Could've been picked for an ONI op like Buck to assassinate Banished HVTs and shit went south. if Locke couldn't win against Chief there's no way he'd handle the Brute.

I have a feeling when the gen3 version of hunter is added to infinite we'll get some lore to go with it that answers this question
Till I hear otherwise, Im gonna headcanon that Hyperious got the helmet because Locke tore it off and used it as a projectile to make good his escape, like that scene in Band of Brothers where the U.S. and German soldiers throw their "tin pot" combat helmets at each other.
Im pretty sure a MJLONIR helmet thrown with enough force could do a pretty good job of breaking bones.

There some precedent for this to in new blood Romeo didn't have a weapon on hand at the moment so he improvised and started throwing rocks to suppress a group of rebels.
Another interesting question is : why Locke was still using his Gen 2 armor when the Gen 3 was available ?
We don't yet know when GEN3 became widely available.
@@HaloCanon We know GEN3 enter production in February 2559 and we also know from Shadows of Reach that by October all Spartans aboard the Infinity have it. So is strange that by December Locke still used the GEN2.

@@eragonbromsson1122 Well, there's no indication Locke was still using his GEN2 armor by December. If anything, Hyperius having it is evidence that Locke no longer uses it.
I think it would be strange if Hyperius just found it. He is a spartan killer after all, and even has spartan fingers around his neck

Seems like you're also glossing over the fact that they could have met and Locke been killed in the intervening 6 months that Chief was floating in space. Kindofa big gap of time there where an encounter could have certainly happened and Locke been dispatched.
Locke wasn't on the Infinity when it came under attack, and Zeta Halo was moved after that. It would be virtually impossible for them to have met in that 6 month period.

There is nothing that says Hyperius was there during the attack either so who's to say they couldn't have killed him during that time period while he was elsewhere and Hyperius and Tovarus just reunited with the remainder of the Banished on Zeta Halo. The had ships with slipspace capabilities so nothing indicates they necessarily were stranded.

They did say in a propaganda tower line that it is locks armor
The grunt propaganda tower does state that Hyperius fought Locke and won, so it’s definitely his armor.
According to the coms tower grunt, it is in fact Locke s helmet, but then again he isnt exactly the most reliable source, here s the only clip of that voiceline that i could find, you can find it in the minute 1:45

The glimpses I caught of the visor showed that it's a type of green I don't remember Locke's visor being green correct me if I'm wrong but I thought it was a shade of blue but great video
The different color could be a result of the upgraded engine and lighting.

I don't remember the source but I heard somewhere that while hyperius is a spartan killer, he simple bested locke in combat, stripped his armour off to keep as a trophy and sent locke running back to infinity as a threat. I think we've seen other banished warriors do similar things to other Spartans (like Griffin who was also armourless?) so it could be plausible hyperius did the same

Personally I hope both Locke and the Infinity return in a big way. The Banished didn't deserve that win, it was just handed to them to try to make people forget HW2. Time to yank it out from under them
Halo Wars 2 takes place right after Halo 5 and before Halo Infinite
@@nickm5419 that doesn't justify the Banished beating something so far out of their weight class. If they couldn't handle a century old repurposed colony ship, they should never be able to beat the Infinity. So as I said, time to yank that undeserved win out from under them and bring back the Infinity in a way that isn't just sacrifice on the altar of the Banished

It would be awesome if Locke only lost his helmet going up against both brutes. Hopefully with a better fight scene than in H5. Perhaps the next time we see him, he'll be sporting a new set of MJOLNIR, similar to what happened to Douglas in HW2.

To be fair, Glibnub also claims that Escharum was just four grunts in a Brute suit. Not to mention literally telling you to turn off the console. I would take anything he says with a grain of salt.

In the H5 audio logs, there was a storyline about a missing shield world called Bastion. At the time, myself and others were expecting Bastion to appear in the games, but the storyline was largely wrapped up in the book "Halo: Point of Light". It could still appear in the games, and while I love that book, the storyline started in the audio logs being finished in a book was a bit of a let down.

well if a possibility is that Locke and Hyperius never met, then why is there a quip from a propaganda tower basically saying that they did? i know its a grunt talking shit, but i dont that grunt is just talking out his ass. Locke and Hyperius had to have met between 5 an Infinite besides who else in halo lore wears mjolnir hunter armor besides Locke? i wish/hope 343 fills in these plot holes

It's right there in his title: propaganda. The propaganda towers have a vested interest in spreading demoralizing information, regardless of its truth.
Best way to bring Locke back AND make have people love him:
1. Enters in a room full of enemies. Fights them all in a big ole action sequence.
2. Reunites with Cheif and makes a joke about that ass whooping he got in Halo 5
3. Says something bad ass followed by “I got you back Cheif”
Disappears in the background appearing as a Npc that actually is useful now and then.
Boom crowd favorite.

@@HaloCanon Who's the voice actor now? Since he's gone. It's just surely they would have included some audio if he was alive. Or is it 343s way of just killing him off displaying his armor on the Spartan killer, the propaganda, the lack of an audio log. Who knows...... I guess future books will tell.

@@edwardslater2252 Even before Halo 5 released, scheduling issues resulted in Locke being voiced by a new voice actor, Ike Amadi. As the other person noted, Ike also voiced Atriox in Infinite.
Locke was unpopular and unwanted. Killing him off is "Fan Service".

Locke was divisive, but he has a pretty large fanbase, and plenty of people want to see him again, play as him again.
