- The first episode of the Halo TV series contained a lot of easter eggs and references to the core-canon. Among those might be the future Arbiter, Thel 'Vadamee.

Something felt off about the Covenant in that one fight scene and I realized it was the fact it was only Elites. Some Grunts and Jackles would have added a little more flavor to that fight, even if they were less intimidating.
I'm assuming/hoping grunts are gonna be used as comic relief later on, so I'm glad they didn't appear in the first ep.
Dont worry, we have already seen Grunts and Jackals in the trailer. They'll appear!

I think Thel can be a nice compliment to further explore the Covenant. I hope that even if this isn't Thel they will eventually introduce him later.

Maybe Mahkee is hunted by the emergent Arbiter in future seasons and eventually that leads to his arc of questioning the Covenant beliefs

I think a lotta people privy to the lore came to the same conclusion that we MIGHT be looking at the Elite that in time becomes the Sangeili we all know and love as Arby. At least, I feel that’s what a lot of us are hoping for_ FINGERS CROSSED!!
That Kaidon stuff reminds me a lot of Game of Thrones.

I think an overlooked benefit of having the show set in an alternate timeline is that, instead of having every plot point be immediately recognized for anyone who’s done even Some digging into the lore, now the future plot threads can feel like an Actual mystery with suspense, even to longtime lore veterans! The creators can go along with viewers’ expectations from core lore, or even subvert &/or repurpose them in surprising ways, and I think we should take some time to appreciate that (assuming the writers actually handle it well, of course).
I just like to see an elite help chief and the others.

One thing no one noticed and you didn’t talk about was how In the cave their motion trackers were offline cuz it was unreadable area or something.
It seems, instead of Thel slowly learning about the prophet's lies, he's going to find out immediately and becomes the Arbiter to capture these relics with the help of the covie girl.
An arbiter is an elite chosen by a high prophet to seek out something the high prophets deem valuable to the covenant, well I think the human character introduced with the covenant could very well be someone who chooses a certain warrior she asked for, to seek out the forerunner relic and kill the demon, just like the arbiter in the game canon

There's a lot of cool stuff in the show and a lot I'm not happy with, so the fact it's a spin off universe and not canon allows me to sleep at night 🛌☺
Yes, the blue elite who should be a shipmaster of long-standing by 2552 is the Arbiter, I'm not even joking I expect the show to be THAT dumb.
We all know this show isn't cannon and they are are leaving some key characters out like blue team but there is no way they leave the arbiter. He is almost as important as the chief in halos story.

Agreed. I will go ahead an mention that those elites in the show look like non-ornate Major combat harness honor guards from Halo Wars guarding the Prophet of Regret. Even the staffs are the same. I hope we see the Halo 2 honor guards for the Prophet of Truth or guarding very important locations like the Mausoleum of the Arbiter.

I want them to make a more dedicated lore accurate cannon short series or film after they finished with this. With chiefs armour more like 2/infinite and more accurate voice with more slender elites.
People would be so bored and hate it. We've seen this period of core canon fleshed out through multiple games, multiple books, multiple external media, including shows. People know this story and how it looks, and history shows that fans of the game really end up NOT liking it when an adaptation is the same thing they've already seen (especially because every scene gets compared to how people wished they'd have seen it - and every small deviation gets magnified into a sin). Not to say it's impossible, (but I kinda think it's impossible for Halo).

Sadly the new tv series is rather a loose non canon story which is more focused on the insurgents and unsc conflict, promoting diverse cast and ignoring the halo games and novel time line....
I think EVERYONE on this show is horribly miscast. The writing sucks, and the kid is annoying. But the art department is doing a great job. They must actually know the franchise their show is based on, as opposed to others involved in the production. Everything looks great and authentic.
The fact he didn't kill the druggy and instead ran away is a good sign that he is. Because if he did kill her, than it would be more difficult for him to redeem himself later on. Well maybe not difficult in general, more like difficult for these writers. And if it isn't the Arbiter, than why the fuck did the elite just not kill the druggy?

I have to ask, does it matter? I am not getting hooked at all into this silver timeline. Their continuity is really bad with chiefs armor and shields predating where they should be, random new Spartans and discount versions of established characters. Is it worth spending time on theorizing about anything in this show? The show runners themselves don't care about halo continuity anyways. I feel like supporting it with fan speculation is just encouraging bad behavior from 343 in letting this happen. And don't even get me started on the terrible cgi and acting.
Dude it's been one episode can you relax. Cheif's armor and shields aren't even predating what they should be, it's based in 2552. And even if it did, you can't just compare it to the games timeline that simply because it's not the same, so we have no idea how long the war has been ongoing for or how long the Spartan/ Mjolnir projects have been in existence.

The show runners not caring was Clickbait. The guy himself came out and confirmed that it was taken out of context. He was referring to internal discussions with 343 about the overall lore, and specified that this took place after having looked at the games themselves.
I think this is likely true. During the scene where Mercy talks with the covenant human, she said she wants to speak with the warrior, which definitely means this elite is going to get more screen time.
He'll probably be fleshed out then.

I sure hope so! I mean, that is a good guess as to where they’re going with his introduction, right…? It makes sense, why else bring attention to the character? It’s not enough to say that he witnessed JOHN-117 activate the index. The Prophets know that the humans are Reclaimers, so there’s gotta be more to em’!! …If not, I’m gonna be kinda let down.😔
We'll know for sure when the meeting takes place and they ask for his name. Probably in the next episode.
Or, the covenant human kills the elite in an effort to protect her position as Reclaimer.
It’d be so cool being able to see arbiter and chief as enemies and then they slowly make peace with one another in the show I just wonder how they would do it differently Vs the games.

Not sure, but if they do, I hope we see his personal journey more during the show. This is a good opportunity to explore the Covenant internal politics and culture in slightly more focus than we got from the games.
Honestly im not one of the people who dislikes the Elite Armor designs. It looks like ancient Medieval armor of Sanghelios being used in a modern setting, but I also hope that they dont all look so antique. I hope we see some in the classic shiny glowy elegant armor in the future!
I do hope at least the Elites’ bodies are made slimmer (more like H2A), I think they look more Halo 4-5ish than I would like, but the armor is slowly becoming one of my favorites in the series, and I hope the Arbiter’s armor takes this and the H2A design into account.

Having a jaw designed where the teeth would stab into your eyes is NOT a desirable trait for a species to have if it wants to last long term. That is not my belief, just a fact of life. Plus, if the Precursors survived to seed another galaxy than their own, then they must have known of some sort of equivalent.

I haven't seen the episode. I've seen the breakdowns. When we see the elite watching Chief use the artifact I immediately thought "Oh that guy's gonna ask questions and be made Arbiter." Why else show one single elite? He'll ask about the human in the Covenant, and if they're really special. Then the elite will be made Arbiter to die in a suicide mission.
I suspect this aswell, I have ever since I saw the IMDb page where there's a casting credit to "Kaidon" .
I think this team of Elites was a squad of Zealots that were going after forerunner tech like in Halo Reach, I think that'd explain thier more ceremonial looking armour aswell. Perhaps the red elite was a Zealot Field martial

Good point. However, considering how the show handles Elite rank armors (like the Honor Guard next to Mercy having standard Minor armor), we probably shouldn't trust the armor too much to find the survivor's rank.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like they are ever going to have Thel Vadam as we know him appear in the series. Looks like they’re setting up Makee to fill that role of heretic who will lead the Covenant separatists, if they ever get to that storyline. I feel like that scene where Mercy tells her to leave the book behind is an indication that she’s not entirely committed to the Covenant’s genocide of humanity. Gotta say it’s dampening my excitement…
You’re making a lot of assumptions based of the first episode. You could totally be right but it’s way too early to say with any kind of certainty what character’s they will and won’t introduce at this point
I dunno… So far, the production is pulling from certain elements of the books & remixing it a bit. Makee is DEFINITELY something else that we’ve NEVER seen before, but her inclusion in the Covenant during this part of the human/Covenant war makes REAL sense. I’m actually surprised that her angle wasn’t introduced way before! That said, I’m having a hard time believing that the show-runners wouldn’t give us their take on the mantle of the Arbiter as it pertains to Sangeili culture. Then again, we will just have to wait & see, I guess. Although, I have heard the speculation that Makee is there for cost-cutting in the CGI budget department_ I hope that’s wrong information.

I also noticed that this mystery Elite character has a much Higher CGI quality than the other Elites. His facial expression rigging is also better. Save to guess this is definitely going to be some kind of main character.
Remember guys this is a different timeline to the original story so some lore and characters well get retcon or re made for the show but damn I'm excited to see the arbiter in it samurai like armor design for the TV series and excited to which arbiter this might be since Thel or Rita ot the heretic arbiter who for saw lies behind the great journey or a new character
Fal 'Chavamee is the one i meant about the one that for saw the great Lie _ THE GREAT JOURNEY IS LIE! quotes from halo legends. but what if the sliver timeline mention the battle between the covenant and the Arbiter in the series knowing that the battle took place between 2125 like damn 4 centuries before the events of the halo trilogy or the war and shafts the time period and put it somewhere in sliver time line and we got our arbiter in which means we get to see more of the beautiful written Fal`chavamee from halo legends anime and some how make it work in this show ya know : D

I wonder if the Covenant warrior who witnessed Master Chief activating the Forerunner tech is going to be killed by The Blessed One/Reclaimer, in order to protect her position (since she wouldn't be the only one able to do so any longer.)

I mean they even changed the members of Chief's team, why not change who Chief is as well? Musa, Kurt, Fred or heck even a female Chief Linda, Kelly or Grace.
I see Halo fans being like The Witcher fans in the sense that at first they weren't on board with the live action interpretation of their favorite IP.
But eventually, they came to understand that its an ADAPTATION. And that some things will obviously be different from the games or books. And once they came to terms with that reality, they were (for the most part) capable of actually enjoying the show. Without nitpicking every scene.
The Witcher Netflix series became its own thing. Even after it became quite popular, it didn't replace the books or the games. And that was by design. And everyone is (mostly) happy with that arrangement.
The Halo series has the chance to also become its own thing. And Halo fans need to relax and not feel like it threatens the games or other media by simply existing.
I do wish 343 had been clearer much sooner about the intentions for the show, but I absolutely agree.

And people that haven't played halo might go to play it after watching the show and be disappointed or confused that it isn't like the show.

Wouldn't what they've been pulling from, as from what you said, just be the core cannon storyline? The books are fillers and primarily don't diverge from the main cannon. So I think what you say in this video about paramount/cbs pulling from fall of reach or Cole protocol would just be them pulling from different parts of the main cannon. Essentially they're tweaking things from the book/videogames not following one set story. In all honesty though Reach shouldn't even be a UNSC controlled planet at this point. Especially when Cortana is introduced to Chief.
That's probably not gonna be Thel. That elite (by the show's depiction) is a minor. Thel was a zealot and supreme commander of the Fleet of Particular Justice. But then again, who am I kidding? This show is more than likely to make a minor the Arbiter given how much respect it has for established lore.
I don't think they are referring to Kaidon specifically. What it could mean by "Kaidon Warrior" is maybe a higher ranking set of Sangheili who are under close command of a Kaidon, which might be where the Elite Major rank fits in. So a Kaidon receives the rank of Major upon joining the Covenant military (or vice versa, normal elite soldier becomes a Kaidon and is promoted to Major) like when someone joins the US military with a college degree. The Kaidon then appoints warriors to fight alongside them, such as in the case of retrieving a significant artifact. This would really only change the significance of the Kaidon rank in this timeline where there can be many Kaidons in a Keep instead of one for each state like in core canon. Maybe they have a "Kaidon of Kaidons" for each state in the Silver timeline.
show sucks sorry. I cant do it. I watched 30 mins and was majorly disappointed and this expands to Infinite. 343 needs to have Halo taken away from it. Or at the very least new leadership at the highest levels. because they approved this crap for TV.
I suspected that was the Arbiter as well. In large part, as he did NOT kill Kwan when he rushed past her in his escape as it would have been little or no effort for him to kill her. Having him NOT kill her, sets him out to some degree to the Elites we saw for the most part in the pilot who had no problem killing civilians.
Very small detail and probably isn’t anything of solid evidence but Thel was also said to have been left handed and the elite in question of this video was left handed. I’m probably reaching but who knows
I just hope they don't bring Thel's character into the show, and him be of little meaning to the narrative. He's a major character, so if they sully his name, people won't be happy
well it kinda looks like they don't want to flesh up any non human, They seem to be going for their blessed one and mercy relationship and that will probably be all we will get from them.. the blessed one is obviously taking Thel's role as an ennemy that becomes an ally..
It would be cool to see this elite be the arbiter, but just one question. Will this future Arbiter(if it even happens at all) be the downfall of the covenant like Thel ’Vadam, or is he going to be like the other Arbiters before him where he just does what he is told and die on a battlefield like all the other Arbiters?
Cool. Ultimately I think this show just isn't for me. Its not what I hoped for thats fine but it doesn't even feel like it was made for fans its just a meh scfi show least that's my impression thus far.
I kinda want it to be a new Arbiter. We have an honorable Thel and ruthless Ripa. I wanna see a cowardly sleazy cheat, like a Starscream type character.

Question, what makes an Elite become The Arbiter?
Ah, I should have explained that. The simplest way to put it is that when an Elite ends up screwing up really bad, they have the chance to take up the mantle of Arbiter to earn redemption. In the case of Thel 'Vadamee, he was held responsible for the destruction of the first Halo ring. This "heresy", as it was labeled, saw himself stripped of rank and authority. To earn redemption, he became an Arbiter, a warrior of the Prophets.

I didn’t immediately connect this lone Sanghelli with Thel but now after this theory, it makes complete sense. It’ll also help the narrative of Thel “failing” in his mission and the Higher-arcs branding him an Arbiter.
This elite is very obviously the one seen with Makee in one of the trailers, considering she asked to speak with him. My guess is that they will end up working together.
Another interesting idea is that because of working with a human being eye-opening in some capacity, this could be the SIlver Canon's take on Sesa or a new seperatist/heretic group leader. Or maybe a fusion of Sesa and Thel's characters thematically.
In any case it seems that they will have a connection, they definitely have an audience with the prophets despite him only being a minor in rank.
Hoping for Noble team to make an appearance this season. Noble 6 is a fan favorite and it would be great to see him and Chief together

But expect it to be just a random elite to relay what happened back to the Covenant

I doubt it in Season 1. Depends on how quickly they're moving. I mean, they didn't know they were renewed for a second season until they finished shooting, so maybe they really sped up the timeline, but it feels like something you leave on a cliffhanger and have a really upsetting Season 2 opener with lolll. Kinda like how they started out this season with covenant murdering children and a bunch of colonists.

Tried to watch this episode but at 30:09 abandoned the video, I just couldn't accept what I saw. I will never watch this tv series again. I was resistant to see some changes, Parangosky for example, but I can't accept that. I'm pretty sure you know what I mean.

No, they didn't. Jesus, how does fake news make it into Halo fandom. The quote that is taken from is totally twisted. People take this one part where they're like "we didn't look at the books at all, so we didn't feel constrained". Looks like a terrible quote. Except...
They literally said that DURING A MULTIPLE DAY LORE AND SOURCE MATERIAL DEEP DIVE AT 343. They didn't look at the games THERE. As in, when they were exploring and learning about the world and the character, there was so much detail and information that populated the universe, that they didn't need to crib anything directly from the game for it to be coherent and full.
That doesn't mean they didn't take anything from the games - *of course* they took stuff from the games. Where do you think the HUD design, or the weapon designs, or the ship designs, or the armor designs came from? From their imaginations? Ian literally talks about how major plot points and locations come from the Cole Protocol?

@@Cyrribrae Eh, you really didn’t prove anything with that. You can totally ignore source material and still borrow stuff from it. For example, you could make a Star Wars story with next to no knowledge on the universe, but if you slap on a couple tie fighters, Star destroyers, and lightsabers, you can still call it a “Star Wars Story”. That’s what they’re doing with Halo, only piggybacking off of the iconic image and sounds, while ignoring all the substance.
TLDR: Sorry for writing an essay. I don't agree that they're lacking substance. And I'd argue most people complaining don't even know what "substance" they're asking for. The writers probably know more about Halo lore than most of the fans complaining (maybe not on this channel). Non canon Halo stuff has been awesome in the past, despite it not being canon. I think this can be too.

Halo the franchise isn't ABOUT a specific armor design or a specific set of important dates or battles. That stuff is awesome! But.. Halo is more than that.
Most people's complaints are like "the designs don't look right" "why'd they make him take off his helmet!" "there's a human with the covenant". Are these significant departures from core canon? For sure. Maybe it'll be handled terribly; totally possible. But it's ridiculous to dismiss all of their work, when they're clearly pulling straight from lore.
Did you expect to see a Halsey/Parangovsky confrontation? Did you expect the first episode to be set on Madrigal? Or even to feature the Insurrectionists? "Iconic images" these MOST CERTAINLY are not. And yet, I think they're used to very good effect.
Is canon the end all be all of Halo? Is it the presence of Master Chief?
Is Halo Wars less of a Halo game because it doesn't feature MC, is in a totally different location, and just "borrows the iconic imagery" of the series? I don't think so. Conversely, is it "Halo" just because it's officially canon? I don't think so. I think Halo Legends adds powerfully to the Halo franchise, even though it's not exactly canon. Halo: Reach and the Fall of Reach both do that, even though they can't both be perfectly canon. All of these are Halo imo.
We don't know if this TV show will feel Halo yet. And I think it's perfectly ok if we disagree on that ultimately. I quite enjoyed the first episode. But the idea that they didn't care about the source material at all is totally whack. They very clearly did. In fact, more than a lot of the shitposters on the internet who hardly understand the criticisms they're lobbing at the show.
I hope they cancel this shit it was so bad I uninstalled infinite and am done halo. 343 sold out the franchise.
I am not too sure about this. I would love if it was so but the show makers doesnt really seem to pay any notice to the Cannon or show much love for the fans.
