I just imagine nagash being the one saying he hadn’t reached godhood. Like, power wise he was god level but that wasn’t enough for him. Until every other god was either devoured or enslaved he didn’t feel like he was a true god yet. Or even funnier, he had some magic item (a magic conch shell in my head) and he would ask “am I a god?” To which the magic conch would reply “no.” And then I imagine him saying “WHAT?!” in skeletors voice. Then grumbling and walking off to find another god to devour.
To get an idea of how petty of a douche Nagash is: When he was still alive he one day called his wife to him. Note that this is the same wife that he stole from his brother that he murdered. He told her that he didn't like her attitude (as in, the attitude you'd have to the man who murdered your husband and forcibly took you as his wife) and he gave her a choice: either cut it out and act like his perfectly willing and subservient wife... or drink this bottle of poison. She gave this a short thought, grabbed the bottle, insulted Nagash's "staff" size and downed the bottle. This is when Nagash said oopsie daisy, that wasn't poison. That was the potion that destroys your personality and turns you into Nagash's obedient undead slave. And that specific potion Nagash had made from his nephew. As in, the son his wife had with her first husband. Why? Because she showed her son more affection than she did the man who murdered her husband and took her as his wife. He made sure to tell her this right before the potion took effect, filling with despair over drinking her own son before her personality melted away. Such is the power of Nagash. And by power I mean dickery.
If you remember from the Settra video, Settra sacrificed his children for the favor and blessings of the Nehekaran gods. This begun a tradition where the firstborn children of royalty and nobility are "given to the Gods." This was, initially, a literal interpretation and the elites of society would sacrifice their firstborn sons and daughters, hence why their second-born would inherit. Over time, the practice changed to where the firstborn would instead be sent to the Temples, serving as priests and priestesses. Understandable, since people don't like sacrificing their children. And so, instead of just being killed and saving much of the world a lot pain, suffering, and devastation, Nagash would be shuffled along to the Mortuary Cult, where he would gain the foundational knowledge of the human anatomy to which he would later apply the dark magic he learned to develop Necromancy.
The way they’re bringing fantasy back is called Warhammer The Old World. It takes place two hundred years before the End Times thing. So some characters are coming back (some dwarfs and vampires, basically all elves and important demons and tomb kings) but a vast majority will not be available because they weren’t born (every important human, or chaos champion, or Skaven, etc) however their will be characters from this time like Magnas the Emperor of man and the Ever Chosen before Arkaon.
Little detail ikit and skrolk are thousand of years old as skrolt was around when sotek first appeared around 2000 years before end times and ikit is alive aswell , plus skrolk is MIA for aos and ikit is in his personal workshop making any horrific stuff so they are either probably or definitely around in the old world and by extension Aos
9:34 The queen of Lahmia, Neferatta was the one who figured out by herself how to create vampires (this was before Nagash cursed them with their weaknesses), in some ways even improving on Nagashes design, when Lahmia was destroyed by Alcadizar the conqueror and the vampires fled to Nagash, Nagash refused to pich her as the commander of the vampires, instead choosing her husband Vashanesh. Neferatta was always a genius, but every single time in her life she faced pushback, even then, when she stood in front of a fellow master of undeath.
Basing this on his old rules for the model and his lore, but Nagash is basically the batman of the setting. Given enough time and forewarning he will beat anything. Being undead just makes the time factor not so urgent. Creates modern necromancy and a collection of the most powerful magical artifacts in the world by infusing raw warpstone, Dhar, and the essence of death into each of them. Personally eats enough raw warpstone to transform into a 15ft tall skeletal monster and attempts to conquer the world multiple times.
Pancreas only briefly touched on the Necroquake, but it’s pretty cool. Just ghosts everywhere. His video on the Nighthaunt (ghost army) covers it in greater detail. Plus they’re a really cool army.
I think the biggest tragedy is that AoS has fantastic models, but burned the old world to nothing for it. AoS is closer to high-fantasy and that just doesn't draw a lot of the old world fandom.
So Be'lakor nearly became a god through slowly absorbing Ursun but Nagash couldn't become a god despite eating 2 of them and all their power... What is this 'plot proof shield' writing that games workshop created
Sylvannia is aprovince of the Empire, the vampire Vlad Von Carstein took over hundreds of years ago and despite his death the province is still full of vampires and causes alot of problems to the Empire. Also, Teclis didnt just asked Nagash for help, he directly helped Arkhan the Black to resurrect Nagash expecting that Nagash would care enough to make an alliance, part of that help involved giving Arkhan all the info he needed to kidnap Aliathra, his nephew, so yes, Teclis in the End Times is a huge asshole
So basically "Warhammer the Old world" (the resurgence of fantasy you talked about in th end) takes place a few hundred years before the end times. Theyre basically just going to add more lore and make new stories on the time period. Its not really an offshoot or a retelling, theyre just adding more if im not mistaken. (And of course changing some bits of lore here and there to fit their new vision, this happens with every edition) EDIT: there are the TON of things in fantasy that havent been fleshed out yet, so this is a great way for them to come back to those things. i.e. Cathay are getting a metric ton of new lore now thanks to the resurgence of fantasy.
You asked how powerful was nagash, and the answer is that he was probably the closest thing that a god that hadn't ascended yet. At some point he made a big ass necromantic ritual, and since then every year at the anniversary of this ritual, undead spontanously resurect through all the old world for a night just from the echoes of his ritual.
If there is one entity or faction from fantasy that I want in 40k, it's nagash. Sure, I do love me some skaven, but I want Nagash in there because I want someone who can actually match Chaos' power, and surpass Chaos in being a dickhead in every conceivable way. Sure, some may say Chaos is worse because it has demons and is hell and all that, but I say that's backwards; Chaos does what it does because that's its nature. Nagash knows the difference right and wrong and chooses to be the worst willingly. Although, speaking strictly of fantasy, Nagash is only the second most evil person in the setting, losing only to every single skaven tied for first place.
The Newcrons are a lot more Tomb Kings than before. Pseudo Egyptian motifs, undying hordes, hatred of the living. You could take phaeron and build him up to be Nagash esque.
