Karl Franz is a great character, and surprising given the setting he's in. Inside the Empire Army Book, just to use an example, Karl Franz doesn't even have the best statline in the Empire Army Book, and as another UA-camr found out, in Total War he can lose to a Great Goblin Shaman (as you might guess, they're not great fighters). He's great with his magic items, but that's not why people like him. Franz is great because he knows what's best for the Empire, and he'll wholeheartedly dive into it, even if it means getting the tar beaten out of him in the process (as is what happened when he fought an Orc Warboss and got crushed in the fight, Pancreas skims over just how badly the fight went for Franz). He clearly has flaws, and after becoming Emperor he clearly wants to keep his position (when the literal reincarnation of Sigmar reappeared, he still didn't hand rulership to him), but the flaws add to his character. The fact you can't field him and somebody like Lietpold the Black together on the tabletop (because Lietpold is such a scumbag Karl would sooner execute him rather than work together, no matter how dire the situation is), adds to the character even though it hurts the overall war effort (since Lietpold is a renowned mercenary general, a good fighter and has his own army). The claim that he's the greatest statesman of the Old World is a claim that can be seen and read because he has plenty of acts that demonstrate him to be a phenomenal leader (the army book even documents these in detail). In Total when you use electoral machinations to make somebody like/dislike somebody else, it even has a pop-up that states exactly what you dod behind the scenes to make that happen. In short, Franz is a person, not a superhuman. He is good at his job and does the most he can to make the best of a terrible situation, and this is why people like him. To briefly touch on the End Times, Gelt learned Necromancy during the End Times, and the Glottkin didn't intend to kill him on the altar, that was more of an accident. Sigmar possessing his body and puppeting him the whole time was absolute BS, as the video goes over: they literally had an inner monologue with Karl they contradicted, it's so stupid. Also Karl is not mentioned by name in Age of Sigmar, at all. That alone makes it the inferior setting.
Makes a lot of sense why he's respected. In such an unfair setting to mankind it's inspiring seeing a regular (when it comes to warhammer) guy overcome the odds.
To be fair, Gelt was under a lot of pressure with the Bastion, then Vlad Von Carstein kidnapped him, gave him a copy of one of the books of Nagash, told him that they could be allies and then released him, so Gelt, desperate as he was, learned a bit of necromancy and when he attacked the guy he thought was the Changeling he raised zombies by instinct instead of using his metal Magic. He is Supreme but everyone has bad days
I recommend watching the "Humanity is the worst Warhammer Race to live as" video by Pancreas. It goes over the sheer misery of being a human in the 40K, Fantasy, and AoS universes. It also give reasons for Pancreas' intense burning hatred of the Brettonians.
20:11 bassically the eldar tried to birth a god to fight slaanesh, but the deathwatch intervened , an eldar asked them shocked why he would do this, it was a whole mess
The whole ynari eldar storyline was discontinued as well it was supposed to be the eldar getting a fighting chance but nope, eldar can’t have nice things
@@jefrosiers8880 I mean, in the end it kinda worked out, and they ended up not needing to sacrifice all eldars in the universe to bring Ynnead to existence. Gotta take those small wins you know
The only, and I mean ONLY complaints I've ever had about Karl were "Why isn't he wearing gauntlets?" (very chad move I just think he'd look cooler) and "Why isn't his ballin visor down?"
Karl Franz is so powerful that both when the setting ended and Age of Sigmar began, AND when there was a major overhaul of the normal human faction, his model stuck around and survived the changes. Yes, you can still field Karl Franz in current edition Age of Sigmar. Sure, you can't field him AS Karl Franz, but if you look up the Freeguild General you clearly get Karl Franz with Ghal Maraz riding Deathclaw as a model.
7:51 given the time of the bretonion invasion my best guess is that it was not Breton as in the entire kingdom but rather the Duke of Paravon one of the bretonia's duchys. He was rather Sallty after Marius Leithdorof the mad elector count of averland and personal friend of Karl Franz. Went into one of his party as an honor guest and then in the middle of the celebration leep from his chair and pointed his finger to the duke's wiffe and scream at the top of his lungs "troll troll oh Sigmar help me it's a troll!! His host took it rather well... he let him go as chivalry demands of a hoast, and then he Launched an invasion of the empire that Franz had to deal with 😂 He was rather angry at his friend Marius and sended his personal champion to make a deal with Marius. One that he cudn't refuse.
I recommend watching Pancreass "Britonnia sucks" video. Pancreas doesn't have much of an impact on the Warhammer fandom, except for one, and he is on record saying it is a point of pride that Britonia hate wasn't nearly so prevalent until he made that video.
13:40 Necromancy in itself uses Dhar, it is the easiest magic to conjure and the most dangerous, Dhar is basically all the winds fused in a chaotic mess, the use of multiple winds is banned in the empire, just like magic outside of the colleges because of this. When a mage starts doing spells they can easilly use dhar without knowing it and Dhar twists your mind, many necromancers and insane wizards don't start out as raving lunatics, but if you use Dhar and don't know what you are doing it won't end well for you. When Teclis established the colleges in the empire he saw that while humans could wield multiple winds it was too big a risk, so human wizards of the college would be taught to harness only one wind! if you go around experimenting with multiple winds as a magister of the colleges, even if you somehow are harnessing high magic instead of Dhar, you will propably be killed
You should have a look at Blake’s Takes ‘You suck at the Empire’ video. Trust me when I say that you’ll learn more about playing the empire in TW in one video than you probably can playing them blind. Could be interesting to react to as well.
5:36 bretonnia and their lore are great, but yeah, for unknown reasons pancreas despises them, he and three other warhammer lore youtubers had a lorecrimes podcast about bretonnia once, he just left, I was there
Maybe the Wood Elves like Franz because they can sense he's an Incarnate? As a reincarnation of Sigmar, he's essentially one of the new gods of the world. Same with Malekith and Grimgor.
Hey. Have you considered reacting to loremaster of soteks reaction to immortal empires trailer? He gives so much context and insight into whats going on in the trailer.
Hello Mr. The Legit Weebs, Adepticon happened and there was a cool new trailer for the 4th edition of Age of Sigmar. Might be something you want to check out and react to.
I dont know if youve seen it already but when the time comes to view more 40K stuff i highly recommend Why is the Imperiums Tech so Messed up by this same creator

Franz is one of the only humans the wood elves like.
Lol as an empire I HATE the wood elves!
First time I fought them it was literary vietnam!

12:00 that was Genevieve Dieudonné, a lahmian vampire
His voice actor in Total War is an absolute beast. Everything he says is iconic
5:36 bretonnia and their lore are great, but yeah, for unknown reasons pancreas despises them, he and three other warhammer lore youtubers had a lorecrimes podcast about bretonnia once, he just left, I was there
That was the best cold opener ive heard recently haha.
Pancreas really doesn’t like Bretonnia.
Honestly, I like them because I’m a fan of various King Arthur and Fey legends. But to each his own.
Louen Leoncour is an absolute chad. His hatred towards them is misguided
I haven't played them that much but I almost feel like they should get a boost/enhancement like what they did with the empire for the thrones of decay
Status of elector counts: Summoned
Look guys.... im not saying that Doctor Xero is the Kings of kings Karl Franz... its just sus that we never saw them in the same room... curious...
2:57 they do have seers yes
