As I am from "Lou ah vulle" this popped up in my feed. These are all solid suggestions but you are going to need more than 15 minutes to enjoy The Falls of the Ohio park. It's quite large and is being expanded in the near future. Muth's Candies in in the middle of the East Market district or "NuLu". A formally rundown area that's seen a resurgence over the past decade or so. Lot's of great restaurants and shops. It's close to the Big Four foot bridge. Also there is the new Louisville FC soccer stadium that opened this year. The Old Louisville neighborhood is worth mentioning. It's just south of downtown and is the largest collection of Victorian style homes in the country outside of NYC. The center piece is St James Court next to Central Park. There's a large art festival there every year.
You’re saying it right. Most people who aren’t from here try to pronounce it “Louis-ville” or “louie-Ville” but it’s actually “lou-ah-vull” lol so you’re saying it perfectly. Edit: also you guys should’ve definitely checked out waverly hills sanatorium. It’s another main attraction that brings any notoriety to Louisville.
It depends like if someone isn't from this part of the country I tend to go with "Louie-Ville". If I detect they have a southern accent then I go with the real pronunciation.
Louisville Slugger Field is downtown, the city's Triple A baseball team's home stadium. Clean, family friendly, very reasonably priced, and not a bad seat in the park. A real gem.
Dizzy Whiz and Ollies are a block from each other. Ollis on 3rd&St. Catherine(it and the diner next to it are CASH ONLY, and Dizzy is pretty much between 3rd and 2nd streets on St. Cathrine
Cave Hill is an extraordinary place to go- it’s definitely more of an arboretum with beautiful grave markers than a cemetery with trees. Seriously, one of my favorite spots in the city.
Honestly, coming from someone who has lived in Kentucky their whole life and currently lives in Louisville, your pronunciation is spot on. Nothing gives away that someone isnt from around here than a Louie-Ville or Louis-Ville. Kentuckians will never say Ville for any of our towns lol, the goal is as little syllables as possible, and I like the guy who said to say it like youve got rocks in your mouth lol. For food and shopping, Market st (known as Nulu) is where its at, and also 4th street has great places to check out and at night it becomes 4th street Live thanks to the live music. Waverly Hills Sanatorium is also in Louisville. Theres also Mellwood arts center which has a great antique shop and Fleur De Flea which is another great place for antiques and local artists
Even though this video is 3 years old now, we appreciate this episode. We were debating going south to bowling green or west through Louisville. You decided for us... Louisville it is, for our way to Colorado. Thanks Josh!
Fun to see my city featured! I got married on Whiskey Row at O’Shea’s (next door to Doc Crows)! And my husband’s grandmother is buried at Cave Hill Cemetery, it really is beautiful.
Really surprised you didn’t visit/mention The Mega Caverns ..... it is an underground cave system that allows hiking as well as zip lining and during the holidays you can drive through and everything is decorated with beautiful lights.
The attractions you mentioned are good for people who just want convenient site-seeing without having to think much, and have plenty of money to spend, but you really can’t say you’ve seen Louisville without walking up and down Bardstown road in the highlands. Locals from all around the city come to this area because it has the most unique display of goods, services, and restaurants. It also embodies Louisville’s hipster and alternative culture, and you can observe many different kinds of people, aesthetics, outfits and energies. Pronunciation sounds like a local 👌🏽 good job bro
This is as good as any video I have ever seen on Louisville. I might add the Speed Museum and the zoo for those who like art and zoos, but you got most of the best attractions as well as food and even included a trip across to Indiana.
You missed a few places Josh Mega Cavern has indoor zip lines so fun to zip in the dark. Cart country has the longest go cart track never ends. Food over across the bridge Cluckers awesome chicken and it over looks the river. Looks like you got to go back. Slugger museum and Kentucky derby awesome
Thanks for the tip! I tried to go to Mega Cavern but it was closed for the season. That go kart track sounds amazing and the chicken sounds awesome too!
My husband in a Louisville native. I just moved to the area about a year ago and this list is great! There are still a few things I need to experience but loving the area so far!
I'm incorporating Louisville into a family summer road trip, and this video pretty much eliminated hours of research for things to do while we're there. Thank you for providing such a thorough and well produced video with all the highlights of your own trip! :-)
Another great video and very comprehensive. We spent a Sunday morning walking around downtown visiting several of the places on your list. We even found on-street parking by the Other giant Bat. Did you know the Louisville is the Home of the Happy Birthday song? We saw a plaque on our walk.
Fantastic list, Josh and Amy! I'm a Lou-a-vul native, and I've been watching a lot of these lately, and you hit a few that others haven't, which is great. You even touched on one I didn't know existed. Well done! Come back anytime, and when you do, you should plan a tour at Waverly Hills Sanitorium. It's reputed to be one of the most haunted locations in the U.S.
Excellent video and pronunciation! I've been through Louisville "Lou ah vull" a lot seeing as I am from Indiana and pass through when traveling down south! This video has great information and makes me want to stop and visit solely for Louisville! For anyone who has not been, I do highly recommend Impellizzeri's Pizza 🍕 and the Riverfront area if you're pressed for time! Again, excellent video!
I'm SO jealous. I've always wanted to visit Churchill Downs and the Louisville Slugger Museum. Hi Amie. Hope you and the babies are doing well. Happy Holidays to you all.
Very well done video. One thing that you forgot to mention is the 1937 flood that devasted the area, and in Jeffersonville is Schimpff's candy store, it's been in business for decades. Thanks
I’m visiting in the near future from the UK. I’ve never been to USA before but I have a friend there so am staying with him for a few days then doing a bit of a road trip/ mooch about for a few weeks.
A resident of the ville...and have lived elsewhere...as towns go it's pretty darn good..the vibe is different. Louisville is basically a big country town. Not without its problems. The key is to lower your expectations about everything and you will be just fine.
Thank you for making Louisville look so amazing!! You are welcome here anytime!! Born and raised here and love my city!! And you did a great job pronouncing Louisville!!
You said it right!! Another famous food is the Kentucky Hot Brown and if you have lids...across from the slugger museum is a fun science Center. Thanks for showing louisville accurately
Lived in Louisville my whole life. Never heard of Louisville Style pizza. Hi-Five Donuts 🍩 is worth a trip. Louisville Science Center is great, especially for kiddos Knob Creek Gun Range is just outside of Louisville, definitely check that out, home of the world's largest machine gun shoot.
I was so excited to see this when it popped. Louisville is great City. And thank you because your trip on Route 66 has inspired my son and I to take a Route 66 trip for his 21st birthday.
Glad you enjoyed it, although it looked like a seriously off time, haha. From a tourist perspective you nailed it. Things you missed? Well, regardless of what any ranking says, Louisville’s park system is phenomenal. The Olmsted designed Cherokee Park comes to mind. The new Parklands is like a mini national park. And there are so many others. The urban core neighborhoods are uniquely charming, from the Highlands to Crescent Hill to St. Matthews to Old Louisville to Germantown. Too many eccentric bars and restaurants and shops there to mention. Catching a UofL basketball game or minor league pro game downtown is usually fun. And Oldham County has some beautiful farms that offer horseback lessons and riding.
Great job. I would totally recommend Impellizzeri's as well. It's a favorite of many. Unfortunately they have closed their downtown location. They still have three other area locations plus one down in Elizabethtown so you can still get that great Louisville pizza, you'll just have to go to the Highlands, Middletown, or the one on Brownsboro Rd. Others have mentioned a lot of the other attractions like ATL, the Science Center, and the Zoo, but I'd like to point out that we have some great libraries to visit as well. The library at the University of Louisville actually has the largest collection of Edgar Rice Burroughs memorabilia. It's not always on display so you'd need to check in advance but if you have someone with you that is a big ERB fan, it would be a must. There's also a pretty lively local music scene as well, at least there was before the pandemic. Hopefully that can get going again soon. I know many local musicians are dying to get out there and perform before a live audience again.
I think you guys definitely hit the main attractions of downtown and the surrounding areas of Louisville, but I think you should have mentioned some more unique areas like the Highlands, NuLu or Germantown. There are amazing restaurants in those areas along with cool art installations and farmer's markets/thrifting options. Also, the Speed Art Museum at UofL is very interesting!
If you have the chance to come back I recommend seeing the mansions in Old Louisville, there are tours and they are beautiful. There's also a ghost walk available almost all year around and it's informative and fun! P.s. Louisville Palace is amazing also.
I thought so too, then I started working at the private jet terminal here and you wouldn't believe how many people come just to visit and come back with little bourbon glasses and mini slugger bats
I always thought that too. Grew up there and left in early 90s. It’s a little strange to see hoopla and tourists take an interest in what I thought was a podunk town, outside of Derby).
Also another recommendation is to check out the recently built soccer stadium Lynn Family Stadium home of Louisville City FC who have two back to back championships in 17 & 18
You did great! The only thing I would add is perhaps a stroll down Bardstown Road(cool eateries and shops) and Frankfort Ave. which I think of as upscale Bardstown Road. Some of our best (and historic) restaurants are along those two streets. Jack Fry's comes to mind! I'm so glad you enjoyed my hometown. I can't imagine loving any place more than I love Louisville. Come back and see us sometime!
A Replica of the Lewis and Clark cabin is not too far from the Falls of the Ohio. It opens up in spring/summer with free tours. Extremely neat to see how Lewis and Clark lived day to day and the items used.
Man I miss my hometown. I have so many memories of the city. Fun fact I loved behind the racetrack it was always crazy during certain times of year if you parked your car best not move it and just walk to where you needed to go. Otherwise if you moved your car during the busy times you lost your spot.
Old Louisville is a great place to visit in Louisville. The largest collection of Victorian houses in the nation. Just walking around is beautiful and historic. Also Waverly Hills Sanatorium. And you said Louisville correctly!
Thanks for showcasing our city (jeffersonville, indiana) and louisville !! it was a real kick to see what is so familiar to us! you are so talented!! the waterfront has music concerts that are a lot of fun. we are always california dreamin!!
Walk down fourth street lot to see and do free concert during the week.end, another favorite is walk down Bardstown road lot of great little shops and places to eat. Another place is a river side country club with ocean liner that give tour and dinner up and down the river.
Thank you for pronouncing Louisville right! & thank you for shining a positive light on my hometown :) It's crazy I used to work at 21C & Woodford Reserve, definitely my favorite places to work.
Very impressed with the recommendations. I think you captured the city well and threw in some places/things to do that even a lifelong resident like myself has not seen or done. Great video 👌🏻
I too was in Louisville in January 2020 and there was so many things to do I couldn’t even get around to them all. I will do the bourbon trail next time.
You 100% pronounced it correctly - that’s exactly how Kentuckians pronounce it! Glad you enjoyed your visit to my home state.
Yeah, you did good lol
He sounded spot on to me.
I couldn't pronounce Louisville better myself.
I think you did a great job with saying the name like a native.
me as well from louisville
I pronounce it like louEville when you really pronounce the e.
The Louisville Loop and The Parklands of Floyds Fork are a must see if you like the outdoors.

There are victorian mansions outside of old louisville, too. My mom lives next door to one in the west end.

That's awesome! Yea we visited Louisville, the Bourbon Trail and Mammoth Cave in January, it was a great area to explore!

I was fortunate enough to be on that property, while no one was there... Spooky...

I feel like it depends where you are in northern kentucky marbles are coming out of the person's mouth but in areas like Somerset it's more normal.
It depends like if someone isn't from this part of the country I tend to go with "Louie-Ville". If I detect they have a southern accent then I go with the real pronunciation.

Would recommend The Highlands for nightlife, NULU, and Frankfort Avenue ( where I live) for great local restaurants and boutiques for shopping.
The Bambi Walk (or Crawl)!

It's crazy I used to work at 21C & Woodford Reserve, definitely my favorite places to work.
My uncle worked at 21c. Did you know a guy named Robert Rayburn? He told me a lot of strange things about that hotel.
From a local, your pronunciation of the city name is spot on correct. Thanks for trying to get it right.
Very impressed with the recommendations. I think you captured the city well and threw in some places/things to do that even a lifelong resident like myself has not seen or done. Great video 👌🏻
LooaVull, KY 💪 you nailed it for a local
Well done. My home town. Only thing you missed was the Waverly Hills Sanatarium
Hi Josh and Amie! Cool video. I had no idea that this city has all of this. East coaster here. Keep the videos coming. Thanks. 🇺🇸💜🦄
Thanks! Will do! Appreciate the comment!
I too was in Louisville in January 2020 and there was so many things to do I couldn’t even get around to them all. I will do the bourbon trail next time.
