As someone who has taken most of the tours on the bourbon trail, I would recommend the speak easy tour at Evan Williams if you plan on doing multiple tours because while most of the tours have their own unique information, for the most part all of the tours tell you the same information. The speakeasy tour at Evan Williams experience is one of the most memorable tours I have taken but I have to say I have never taken a bad tour at any of the bourbon distilleries I have visited. Also if you are looking for a smaller distillery to visit one of my favorites is Castle and Key. They have beautiful grounds and while they are fairly new so they don’t have any actual bourbons ready yet, their first batches will be ready in 2022 and while you wait their other spirits are some of the best!
Good info, I will go back and hit more when the virus is settled down. we went to Wild Turkey Sept of 2020. only place doing any kind of tour / tasting because of covid . I Was looking forward to meeting Jimmy Russel and have him sign a bottle of Russel reserve. They said they are keeping Jimmy out for his safety because he is 86. So we went to dinner at a local dive/diner. Guess who walked in Jimmy and his wife. Got a picture with him and spoke about bourbon as long as he wanted to until his dinner came. What a very nice gentlemen. He made my trip
Just did the 4 Roses tour last week. It was pretty good, explains the whole process from grain delivery to shipping out for bottling ending with a nice tasting. They have very large brand NEW visitor center and gift shop now. Very nice.
Neither my wife nor I drink...and yet we love these types of tours for the history. I watched this to compare what we saw/did with yours. We have not been to all of them, but like Maker's Mark, Jim Beam, and Four Roses tours the best. I would also recommend a tour of Jack Daniels Distillery in TN and for other "food" tours try the Tillamook Cheese Factory in OR, Tabasco Factory Tour in LA, and the Chocolate World in PA.
Nice video, well done, many changes at some of those distilleries since Covid, Woodford now has 5 copper stills, Wild Turkey has renovated the tasting room and Wilderness Trail has expanded a lot too. Bourbon is booming at the moment !!
I've lived in Indianapolis for 30 some years, and some of these places I've been wanting to go to. After watching your video, I'm even more determined to go. Thanks for the posting...
If anyone is close to Maker’s Mark distillery you can also tour the cooperage in Lebanon, KY and see how the barrels are made. Need reservations though.
A really informative and fun video. I had no idea there were so many distilleries and how much time it would take. I love learning the history of places as well. I would certainly vote for you to make a video on how to effectively plan your time to visit as many as possible.
Nice job on the video. My wife and I did 13 of the distilleries in Spring of 2019. I actually agree with most of your comments regarding each tour. The Four Roses tour is really good and you learn a lot. We actually did tours on all of the distilleries we visited, which may seem overwhelming, but we actually learned a lot of different things from each one.
I never used to take these kinds of tours, but we went to Bushmills and Jamison when over in Ireland/Northern Ireland and now I want to visit them all! And now we can’t. Hopefully soon!
Me and my wife will be going on the bourbon trail this coming May and I can't wait. Your video gave me goose bumps and made me feel like a kid at a candy store, thanks!
How fun! We did the trail 9 or 10 years ago. Stayed in a haunted house in Bardstown. Loved watching the ladies hand dip at Maker’s Mark! We also visited Heaven Hill, Jim Beam, Four Roses, Wild Turkey & Woodford Reserve. Loved Kentucky & The Bourbon Trail (and I don’t even like Bourbon) - gorgeous and fascinating history! We named our old Lab Lexie after Lexington, as we were driving by it when my friend was grabbing her out of the shelter for us...
When things start to go back to normal come to Maine and do the Maine Beer Trail. We also have a bunch of new distilleries that have been popping up over the years.
Good video. As a proud Louisvillian, thanks for the straightforward portrayal of what we call bourbonism. I think the Four Roses building is beautiful on the outside, but the inside felt very industrial.
What a great overview of the bourbon trail, quite an education into the history as well. Sales of bourbon declined every year from the 1970s through 2006, but then began a remarkable recovery and prosperity never seen before. Two things that contributed to that change is that the Kentucky legislature permitted sale and consumption of individual drinks at the distilleries, which had been forbidden, and they also allowed direct shipment of bourbon outside the state. Enjoyed the video.
That was a great video. I am planning to do it early next year. How many days do you think I should allow? I would like to see as many as possible. I'm retired and planning to use my RV for this adventure.
Great video. Very informative and to the point. Going to KY in October and I'll definitely be using this video as a guide while planning the trip! Cheers!
I have been to most of the distilleries and you missed some good ones. In Bardstown you should of stopped at Barton 1792, its a very old distillery and the tours were free, bud saddley they stopped giving tours several years ago. Also you missed Whillett and The Presevation distillery. Bulliet has a new distillery in which is very worthwhile. and just down the road from Woodford is Castle and Key and O.C.D. distillery. Then close to Shelbyville is Jeptha Creed . When I go I plan and make resevations for tours months in advance, and visit 3-4 a day.
A very enlighening video, really complete. I have this dream of visiting this area of USA, a distillery tour. I am looking for information about prices.
This is great. Next time my friends suggest we go to Napa Valley California for a wine tasting tour I’m gonna say, “No! Let’s go to the Kentucky Bourbon Trail!”
Really enjoyed the entire video. A few weeks ago one of my best friends dropped into the Woodford Reserve property to pock up my favorite as a retirement gift: Woodford Double Oaked, and your video makes it even more special! Can't wait until I can personally tour myself.
This is part of what America is all about, our heritage, our unique inventions, in this care bourbon. This beautiful country never should have ever been shuttered. TIme to open everything, and keep it that way. This has hit the restaurant and spirits industry hard. Thanks for this video, I love how you highlight America off the beaten path.
While Willett Distillery might not be on the Bourbon Trail, the distillery is definitely worth a visit, and only a 3 minutes drive from Heaven Hill, so if you are going to Heaven Hill, you could easily go to Willett the same day.
Great video! Question: which distillery had the beautiful stained glass ceiling at 1:17? That's gorgeous! :) Also, the limestone content in the KY soil is the reason there are so many cave formations, including Mammoth Cave system. You should consider visiting the Cumberland Falls, known as the "Niagara of the South", sometime soon. Just make sure to check their website for moonbow dates, before you plan your trip. It's the only falls in the Western Hemisphere that create a "moonbow" ( a nighttime rainbow). It's also near the original Sanders Cafe & Museum (ie, the first KFC).
Yeah I tried in nov. they were all closed except for four roses. The gift shop was open but wouldn't or couldn't take cash cause of covid. They were the first one I stopped at. So I opted out hoping to find another. Oh well. Jim beams property is nice. Liked it best. Four roses was cool and the people were nice can understand the no cash policy to bad they were the first I tried and not the last
ty ty ty . I'm turning 50 this September , I love most of the bourbons you showed , i do have a question ,do all the distilleries sell their bourbon and if not which liquor stores you would recommend to purchase some high end bourbon at ? ty and great video
Most of them sell bourbon, but at the current demand of bourbon you might have just as good of a chance finding high end bourbons in your area. Some of them do sell bourbon you can only get at the distillery, Maker's Mark comes to mind, I think it's Private Select or something.
Makes me want to take up pro‐drinking! But seriously...great video. I was born and move away at a young age in Southern Ohio but I have visited that area several times. However, I had no idea about these tours. It is now in my must see list in 2022 on our cross country retirement trip. Thanks!
Really like your channel and Dad is excellent! Very very interesting and great cinematography. I hope that after January 20th that your 2021 is brighter 🤗
Two years ago we did a trip to bardstown and Frankfort to visit some distilleries and had a great time. The one regret is that when we were in Louisville we wanted to go to michters right across the street from slugger museum and they are closed on Tuesdays😔
Thanks for posting this video very informative! We're planning to visit Kentucky. How did you purchase the tour tickets? Did you book it ahead of time from the distillery websites?
Bourbon tour! Don't really like the spirit but seems very interesting, I love going on tours of how things are made. Favorite so far is the Tillamook in OR and the Tabasco one in LA, would love to do the Ben and Jerry one but seems so out of place, and not sure worth a trip by itself to go all the way up to northeast, but going to try the Jelly Bean one this year. Wonder if they have one for KFC. Kentucky's greatest gift to the world!
Buffalo Trace and makers Mark were absolutely beautiful and amazing and made my trip to Kentucky worth it all
Haha hey I was your tour guide at Angels Envy. You can see my watch during the tasting scene. So glad you enjoyed it! Come back and see us
So awesome! Thanks for the great tour!
Please stop requiring tour to taste!
Adam. How much are tours? #handdippedwaxbottles. Yeeeeeeeeeeees!!! Fkfkfjc
I was there in October 2022. Absolutely great.

I would agree this tour was something different. Entertaining.
“We didn’t take the tour but we did do the bourbon tasting’
Glad to see someone has their priorities straight.
Great video!
I'm a whiskey/bourbon guy and have never been... But so badly want to. So I appreciate this video and the depth you took to explain it all!
Same! I am a bourbon fanatic and I haven't been to any of the distilleries! I say we get a random group together and go!
@@smashadams85100 that would be cool!! I'm in!

The Bourbon Trail has been on my to-do for a while, after watching your video I am even more excited to go
No one does all your adventures better. You are the best!

Me and my wife will be going on the bourbon trail this coming May and I can't wait. Your video gave me goose bumps and made me feel like a kid at a candy store, thanks!
Toured Buffalo Trace in Dec. 2020. Outstanding, highly recommend it. I would like to hit Woodford and Angel Envy if ever out that way again.
I am now hooked on your channel. You have the ability to make us feel like we are there with you
Great video as always! Glad you got to Old Forrester. It’s a truly underrated, really excellent whiskey.

What a great tour. Thanks so much for this video.
Really great video - thanks for putting it out there!
Thanks for sharing man. I love me some bourbon and seeing some footage of these tours were fun to watch
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the comment
Our first bourbon tour was in 2009 and plan to do another. Thanks for the video and suggestions. We will definitely take your suggestions!
Four Roses was probably my second or third favorite actually, I enjoyed the ones that appeared very old.
Love it! Can wait to see next ep for planing the trip as I plan to follow you to visit KY
This is a much needed video. Thank you!
I thought about this while driving through Kentucky! Fun trip in the future! Thanks for the video.

Great job filming and editing this!
We just went in October and some of the distilleries were starting to open back up. Great video!
You missed the best tasting in Louisville Peerless Distillery is an excellent experience
Very interesting and informative video. Wonderful bit of history. Thank you. Tried to check out your gear shop site but it seems to be down.
This is great. Next time my friends suggest we go to Napa Valley California for a wine tasting tour I’m gonna say, “No! Let’s go to the Kentucky Bourbon Trail!”
Did many of the distillery’s shown, a must do for anyone that appreciates bourbon! 🥃😋
Really like this trip. Always amazing. Super thanks!
That is a good trip Hope you had fun
Great video as usual. I want to travel the Bourbon trail!😊
What a great video! Thank you for sharing tips and tricks!

Going on the trail next month, CAN'T WAIT!!!!! Are there any cigar bars you can recommend while out there doing tastings?
The perfect way to end this week-end !!! Thanks you
Enjoy!

Definitely sets a great example of what I should be working towards.
Thank you for the great video I have several family there often try to catch a distillery when I'm in town
