It's not really a dichotomy. Optimizing can only take you so far. Even if a game was programmed by the archangels themselves, it's still going to have base requirements to run decently well if it has modern graphics. Disgustingly low graphics settings are always a must.
1:08 I'm right there with you. Drives me absolutely crazy when emulators like PCSX2 can't get the textures to line up. Half the time I just play in native res because I can't deal with the upscaling glitches. Also, I kind of love that ultra low-res mode makes it look like a really amazing Gameboy Advance game.
That's what is great about this game, the graphics are beautiful but is so well optimized that you cant make it look horrible for it to run even on a laptop without a discrete graphic card at 60fps

Not gonna lie, If it weren’t for some of the wackier side effects, playing with the resolution that low honestly looks pretty cool. It’s like a pixilated filter almost.

If the developers had to target this level of graphics (e.g. DS, PS1) it probably would have looked a lot more fitting and stylised (and the game probably would have been more optimised too) . Admittedly it almost does fit this quality but the developers most certainly did not make the graphics for this graphics level and it shows with characters being a lot less emotive in facial expression etc...

I used to play on this exact settings in my old PC. Not gonna lie, it actually plays very well if know the characters and movesets. Definitely not good to play at a competitive level, but for casual game play it works pretty well. It even looks like some SNES games, nostalgia mod?

@@drybux8652 damn that's tuff.... you can buy a new 2ds xl because nintendo stopped the production, you can get one before there is no 3DS anymore, btw the 2ds xl cost in the 100 dollars or more but you can download citra if you want.

Not gonna lie, If it weren’t for some of the wackier side effects, playing with the resolution that low honestly looks pretty cool. It’s like a pixilated filter almost.
I actually prefer this more than the original. It gives it such a retro charm, and I absolutely love it

@@heyhey5462 It's not really an older style, it's just making new graphics look worse. If the developers had to target this level of graphics (e.g. DS, PS1) it probably would have looked a lot more fitting and stylised (and the game probably would have been more optimised too) . Admittedly it almost does fit this quality but the developers most certainly did not make the graphics for this graphics level and it shows with characters being a lot less emotive in facial expression etc...
It kinda looks like those crunchy 3D models on the DS
Dude it actually looks like an sick-ass 2d game, just make the gui smooth and the characters look like extremely well animated 2d sprites

The footage they released was before the game was even finished developing (so don't expecy the final product to look the same). Even Craig, the brute people were making fun of), looks absolutely amazing with improved texture work and a lot of fur/bair detail added
@@assgoblin9937 It looked so grainy,that's why it was getting hate. It didn't look as "next-gen" as people thought it would've looked as a demo.I personally didn't like it for the fact that it looked like it was emulating the first halo...even though that's one of my favorites.

I used to play on this exact settings in my old PC. Not gonna lie, it actually plays very well if know the characters and movesets. Definitely not good to play at a competitive level, but for casual game play it works pretty well. It even looks like some SNES games, nostalgia mod?
