- Israeli occupation of Palestine tends to be a touchy subject for news media, so much so that they break journalistic standards and writing etiquette just to avoid implicating one party over another - which still seems to end up working out in Israel’s favor and never Palestine’s. That’s led to a media environment that can’t clearly call out the ethnic cleansing and apartheid inflicted upon Palestinians, doesn’t point to context when talking about the results of decades-long oppression and displacement, and can’t help but equivocate about two disproportionately affected populations. But maybe that’s starting to change.
Sana Saeed looks at what U.S. media coverage has gotten wrong about recent events in Gaza, Sheikh Jarrah and occupied Palestine, and offers her own media critique.

This video made my day. We as pro-palestinian Arabs have been calling out this apartheid regime for decades. We were always afraid of speaking our minds about this issue in Western countries (I live in the UK) because it was a big taboo to call out Zionism, like social suicide. But the weird thing is the whole context of this video is a lie. The US media in general is being VERY critical of Israel. Major news outlets, independent ones, online, local, national, etc. all are pretty universal in being critical of Israel & supportive of Palestine's plight. Only the most far right news sources are demonizing Palestinians in any way.

One or two stories criticizing Israel are not enough if mass media is downplaying the actuality of the situation. This video showed headlines from major news outlets doing just that. An incredible reporting. Oh and while I dropped the main channel of AJ+. I did not drop AJ+ from my subscription on You Tube. But somehow I had been unsubscribed from AJ+. And I did not notice due to dozens upon dozens of other channels I currently have on my list. So I am back with AJ+ after well over 5 years. And it is due to remembering 1 particular journalist from AJ+ whom I admit can't remember her name. But remember her work. The work that stands out is the South African water crisis story. Which turned out to be more than about the water crisis. And left me with the feeling that South Africa still has some Apartheid issues. The stark lines shown by that water crisis reporting in South Africa. Has stuck with me to this day. As video footage showed black people living on bare patches of exposed dirt. In cobbled together scrounged scrapes. With out any infrastructure of any kind. No electricity, running water, no greenery, or anything of the kind. And while just on the other side of this dirt patch. We see a thin tree line. And on the other side western style suburbs, which not look out of place in the US and West. Running water, pools, electricity, and all the other amenities of modern living. And these suburbs are largely of white South Africans.
Maybe embracing views that minorities can’t be racist and therefore shielding them from any accountability for their racist actions has consequences?

I was furious about the media building until a former worker there disclosed that Hamas does and has operated from there, occasionally with veiled threats against the media personnel within. If you search and locate the Hamas launch sites I've seen at least one (cannot legitimately say I have seen many) within proximity of schools and medical facilities. Media coverage hasn't changed even after the building was taken out, so it can be concluded there was no significant impact on coverage there. And concerning the "eviction", yes there is a legal dispute, and those being evicted share the same sentiment here that Israeli's shouldn't be charging them rent to live in a place they will say should belong to them. It is no secret that Israel no longer believes in a two-state solution since one side would prefer if Israel was non-existent. 1937 proposal rejected, 1947 rejected 1948 War (someone started for some reason, despite being new nations themselves; destroy a new nation of Jews for existing). Interestingly anytime AJ mentions 1948, I never hear anything about that War, just cleansing and removal, cleansing and removal, cleansing and removal.
Between 1949 and 1967, Jordan occupied the West Bank, while Egypt ruled the Gaza strip. Arab states could have established a Palestinian state on the West Bank and in Gaza, they chose not to do so. Concerning the Mosque, there are obscured reports of Muslims firing fireworks on Jewish goers to the Western Wall (so much for holy ramadan), and I assume there was some backlash from the Jewish goers because after that it was reported the police were deployed to stop some kinda rioting and that there was a fire (looking at images and video clips inside the mosque I could see Arabs setting off fireworks, so I can only assume it was caused by that, but I can be wrong). So after the police are sent in, then everything with Hamas choosing to launch 100's to 1000's of missiles at Israel (presumably to test out the iron dome could manage), firing these rockets in spite of not having any means to defend themselves should Israel retaliate (why would Israel or any country retaliate in a similar circumstance, these are simple unguided missiles). I can only assume if it were not for the iron dome, and the casualties were similar or worse than in Gaza, then the coverage might be less biased, which is some messed up reasoning, 'more Israeli's (Arabs and Jews mind you) need to die before it is fair fight'...
Then afterwards the events that were reported by the media whom AJ called soft reporting and biased seemed rather biased against Israel, where when Israel fired and Hamas fired back, it was reported as "Hamas launches retaliatory strikes against Israel for their Israeli strikes" (One would think it was Israel who struck the 1st blow and was making many points AJ themselves seem to be making here in favour of Palestine, even though the target was Hamas...Israel makes attempts to target only Hamas militants, Hamas targets all of Israel, but both fail miserably considering the innocent civilians virtually forced to be in close proximity to Hamas targets, and Hamas missiles falling inside Gaza itself. Israel calls ahead to let people know to evacuate rather than straight-up bombing the place simply because it's a target. I'm done, maybe the only solution is a one-state solution for reals, at least then "Palestinians" can become naturalised citizens, and more likely to be in this day and age, but I DOUBT the tensions themselves will subside right away.
