I think that there are a lot of American Jews that are just as brainwashed as you were. On housing costs, democracy is working just fine. Most voters to local and county seats are done by homeowners, and they do not want lots of new housing watering down the value of there properties via supply and demand. Instead they want exclusionary housing of only single family detached houses on large lots, they don't give a shit about new starter homes. Voter turnout is very small locally, but people like you not voting local means politicians addressing your concerns will lose. On inflation, it's driven by a worldwide supply chain shock and will take several years for markets to adjust. The government doesn't have a magic wand to wave and the private sector screwed up their early response to the pandemic, and never made preparations with a resilient supply chain in case of worldwide shocks. Nothing but waiting for markets to adjust here.

The problem with saying these things at all is that when you say "I support Ukraine" or "I support Palestine" you're not really supporting anybody, saying these things doesn't effect the people suffering at all. The people who say these things, which is basically everyone on social media, aren't going out of their way to send help or do anything with themselves to end conflict at all. And the native tribes had signed treaties and agreements, giving each tribe a reservation which is their own country, with their own laws, their own land to control, are free to do what they want in their own reservations. Between Ww1 and WW2, every time Jews would buy land or immigrate, the fundamentalist Islamist portion of the Arab Muslims in the region would burn Jewish settlements and massacre children and women. The Grand Mufti then met with Adolph in WW2 and tried to get him to bring his crew to Palestine to wipe out all the Jews and kill the British. The British who had been supporting the Palys the entire time. You should learn about the actual history. First of all the Palestinian national movement is a fundamentalist Islamist national movement and not an ethno-national movement. Meaning "Palestinian" is not an ethnicity and there was no Palestinian national consciousness prior to the middle of the 20th century. Second, in 1947 when the British packed up and left, they handed all their military equipment, tanks, guns , ammo, military bases and infrastructure over to the Islamist armies gathering, knowing full well they planned to genocide the jews in the region, and kick them out of their homes . In doing so, this same Islamist army either kicked out or convinced thousands of Arab Muslims to leave their homes, telling them that in a few days they could return after all the Jews were gone from the land. By gone they meant dead. Then this happened again in 1967. And subsequently for decades and decades after. Context actually matters. Now these individual "Palestinians" might not be guilty of that, or supporting that, who knows. But to frame it as "what the Israelis have been doing to the Palestinians for decades" is a gross mischaracterization of the situation and the history. And even to this day, fundamentalist Islamist mafia Palestinian leadership, oppress their own people, use their own people for canon fodder ,and live like millionaires in high rises and mansions while the common Palestinian flounders in poverty. So, while I don't agree with doing this to anyone, it's somewhat understandable why this animosity exists from the Israeli side. Why this FEAR exists. Most voters to local and county seats are done by homeowners, and they do not want lots of new housing watering down the value of there properties via supply and demand. Instead they want exclusionary housing of only single family detached houses on large lots, they don't give a shit about new starter homes. Voter turnout is very small locally, but people like you not voting local means politicians addressing your concerns will lose.
On inflation, it's driven by a worldwide supply chain shock and will take several years for markets to adjust. The government doesn't have a magic wand to wave and the private sector screwed up their early response to the pandemic, and never made preparations with a resilient supply chain in case of worldwide shocks. The problem with saying these things at all is that when you say "I support Ukraine" or "I support Palestine" you're not really supporting anybody, saying these things doesn't effect the people suffering at all. Despicable. I've never looked at Israel as the morally irreproachable people they're always held up to be but I have no personal issue with them. The same goes for the Palestinians. However, I'm glad that have old videos like this that are gaining more visibility for us on the outside to say "Hey. Wait a minute." This is the kind of crap Palestinians have to put up with...for decades?
You should learn about the actual history. First of all the Palestinian national movement is a fundamentalist Islamist national movement and not an ethno-national movement. Meaning "Palestinian" is not an ethnicity and there was no Palestinian national consciousness prior to the middle of the 20th century.
Second, in 1947 when the British packed up and left, they handed all their military equipment, tanks, guns , ammo, military bases and infrastructure over to the Islamist armies gathering, knowing full well they planned to genocide the jews in the region, and kick them out of their homes .
In doing so, this same Islamist army either kicked out or convinced thousands of Arab Muslims to leave their homes, telling them that in a few days they could return after all the Jews were gone from the land. By gone they meant dead.
Then this happened again in 1967. And subsequently for decades and decades after.
Context actually matters. Now these individual "Palestinians" might not be guilty of that, or supporting that, who knows. But to frame it as "what the Israelis have been doing to the Palestinians for decades" is a gross mischaracterization of the situation and the history.
And even to this day, fundamentalist Islamist mafia Palestinian leadership, oppress their own people, use their own people for canon fodder ,and live like millionaires in high rises and mansions while the common Palestinian flounders in poverty.
So, while I don't agree with doing this to anyone, it's somewhat understandable why this animosity exists from the Israeli side. Why this FEAR exists. I think the main thing you may be missing is that this land in East Jerusalem is right next to al Haram al Sharif, and as such it is in the heart of the struggle about the status of East Jerusalem as the capital of a state of Palestine vs it being a part of the undivided capital of Israel.
The family is brave in putting their lives at harms way, in danger of violence, and at risk of being constantly harassed for the goal of their people - to lay claim on East Jerusalem.
Another thing you may be missing is the injustice in allowing the Jewish owner to claim this land where the Arab family is living, while refusing to allow the Arab family to lay claim on the land they were removed from in 1948. Such selective application of 'justice' is dispossessing the family for a second time.
