    I feel fortunate to live next to a great bunch of neighbors. A cop a mechanic & a lot of retired people who love gardening. Everyone is very helpful.

    IMHO, the absolute BEST people to know are your neighbors, good or bad. These are the people that you will rely upon during SHTF the most just due to sheer proximity. We recently go two new neighbors, one a young Mennonite family and the other a very young Amish family. I’m learning a lot from the Amish Family just in casual conversations.

      @user-gd8ej4oy3m I have a small farm operation here and buying calves is definitely harder now due to cost. You neighbor is correct, prices are out of this world for calves and feeders so I can only imagine what prices are going to be for steak and ground beef in the stores. I went to livestock auction and left with nothing due to prices. Went to one of the local dairy farms and made a deal for a Jersey/Black angus mix ($300) and a Jersey Bull calf ($20). The Jersey Bull calves won’t pack on the pounds like other breeds but the meat can taste sweeter (some say). I know a lot of the smaller beef operations around here are all trying to find calves/feeders too all are paying higher prices. Just told the wife to hold up selling ours beef (we sell by the half or quarter) since I don’t know where prices will be in a year. I would talk to your neighbor and see if he sells by the half or quarter.

    On repairs...our biggest issue will likely be scarcity. Most repairs anymore means swapping parts. If you can't get the part, you may be toast. Example: A lot of us are driving cars right now that parts are already hard to come by, and the S hasn't yet HTF. Fact...they are intentionally driving us into a world of scarcity. Scarcity of everything.

      I didn’t hear you mention junkyard owner for spare parts, all the knowledge in the world won’t help if you can’t find a replacement part.
      My wife who is a RN with advance directives, para-operative, diabetic educator, and etc. certifications. Has a problem with people who only call her when they have something medical to talk with her about. The people who talk with other things of common interest are friends and she is always happy to help. If you want to make friends with these kinds of people look for more common interest than just the thing they provide you with and be certain you also bring something else to the table in the relationship. Good advice! Human Resources. While available, auto parts stores will scan your car to diagnose problems. Recently had a check engine light on, scan told me exactly what was needed. No charge. They wanted $65 for the part. Amazon $13. Ordered it, replaced it myself (that one was easily accessible) and done for $13. Mechanic shop would no doubt have been several hundred. Get saved, obey and pray and let Jesus show you the way!

    A couple more for ya MR. #1. Have a good relationship with your veterinarian. Has access to RX meds and can do actual surgeries. #2. A friend or neighbor with heavy equipment. Perhaps something to consider....standardization, alot of people do it with their gear and kinetic devices but what about your vehicles, appliances, tools, etc. What I meen is it might be a good idea to have an item that is most prevalent or available, for example lets just say that a chevy 1/2 ton 4WD truck has the most available out there over other models, having that model would offer you the best chance at finding parts or even someone that knows how to fix it if you dont. Also downloading instruction manuals and/or videos about repairs on all of your stuff that you dont already know wouldnt be a bad idea either, granted we could lose everything in an instant but we might not and we might just have to figure out how to make it work. Just something to think about. 👍

    Multiple Amish neighbors within less than 2 miles, the county highway superintendent, a surgery nurse, a potter/homesteader, a gunsmith with a cannon, a guy with a large welder, a diesel mechanic, etc, etc. We have made it a point to note who raises chickens, goats, horses, beef, has ponds, hay fields, raises corn/beans and such. I cant grow it all. But collectively we can sustain ourselves. And we sit on the highest point in the area. So we have the best vantage point of the road and crossroads.

    I like your bits of advice on this. If anyone wants to develop a network of friends who are committed to learning .. then advertise in your local paper or word of mouth and look around for a public meeting place .. like a church, bank, or community center where you can meet up 1-2 times a month. We are all like kids when it comes to discussing various survival ideas. We can learn a lot from each other. I would suggest tho .. that using firearms should not be a public topic very much .. (red flags) .. instead think about weaving, canning, gardens, natural remedies, and having a seed bank among others.

      yes, I have 5 Blacksmiths in the family and knives are not the only thing to know how to make, I have fixed Tractors and many other things including cannon parts over the last 40 years, LOL. Learned how to smith to fix my horse drawn equipment. Have also fixed bent front ends when a tree beat the guys tractor in lifting strength, LOL. There is a good reason the Blacksmith was the one person known by the entire town.
      I raised my kids up doing living history events and the oldest is gonna be 40 this June so they grew up around all of the trades and learned all of them from our friends in the guild we had at the time.
      All 3 worked cannons in the Civil war events and learned respect from each individual. That will take them farther than any one trade will someday soon.

    • @ModernRefugee

      We use them in the neighborhood. They will go a couple miles. It all depends on how high the antenna is. The higher the better.

    • @sandsock
      @sandsock 4 місяці тому +4

      depends on the height of the antenna for line of sight radio. think of radio distance as pushing a rope. if you add power to the antenna. you can just push teh message just barely over the horizon. so hand held to handheld, maybe 3 miles to 7. cb maybe 11-20 miles vehichle to vehichle. maybe 40-50 miles if your adding in a tower. then you get into ham hf . idk if ham hf is even worth it. you have fuds that only talk about science and bathroom trips and not the state of the country. then they dont know when to shut up about other stuff, dont air your dirty laundery, somebody is always listening

    • @katie7748
      @katie7748 4 місяці тому +2

      Depends on the unit, the antennae, terrain, etc. On average, 5mi. A really good one, properly set up and tuned and with ideal location, 20mi is possible but 10-15 more likely.

    I agree on getting advice, but I'll add they must be a "trusted expert" where you trust 2 things 100%. First is they have a good heart, and Second is they know what they are talking about. So your Mom may love you but her advice on fixing the truck is false, and a Mechanic may know how to fix your truck but is scammer, and wants to take your money. You need someone who cares about you and also knows what they are doing, rare to find but worth the search
