- My best of gliding video of a great journey to Bitterwasser (Namibia), where I flew about 60 hours in 8 days with a Ventus 2cxM. It´s such a nice landscape for gliding, great thermals, high cloudbase and fantastic food at Bitterwasser Lodge & Flying Centre. The drone shots are made with a DJI Phantom 4 drone, for the other footage I used a Sony a6000 and a Gopro 5 session.
Some facts:
- 60 h flight time in 8 days
- 4 x more than 1000 km flights
- 1 x more than 1100 km triangle
- highest altitude of more than 5000 meters by thermal

I flew DC3’s with Namib Air in the early 1980’s, Bitterwasser was a bit more basic back then.
Hey there! Was it navITer Oudie IGC you had in the cockpit? I want to buy that one.
In the Ventus 2cxm was a usual navITer Oudie without logger and I logged my flights with the Nano logger 1st generation.

Like and love all of your flying with your glider but i had one question in my mind that did you ever fly or try to fly from one country to other and did you do this with your glider or glider do this ??????

Danke! Der Ventus hatte ein Oudie von Naviter eingebaut mit SeeYou Mobile. Als App auf dem Handy kann ich XCSoar empfehlen. Das ist OpenSource und kostenlos.

Tolles Video. Sind es eigene Segelflieger oder werden sie gemietet. Frage mich nur aus Interesse, wie man nen Segler dorthin bekommt ;)
Ein paar Piloten verschiffen ihre eigenen Segelflugzeuge im Herbst nach Namibia, fliegen ein paar Wochen selber damit und verchartern sie dann für die restliche Saison. Im März kommen die Flugzeuge wieder in Deutschland an und können hier den Sommer über genutzt werden. Viel Aufwand und relativ hohe Kosten, lohnt sich aber ;-)
Wow, echt cool. Ich fliege Gleitschirm und kenne Namibia vom Hörensagen, also viele GS-Piloten fliegen dort. Aber, dass es dort mit Segelflieger so organisiert ist hätte ich nicht gedacht. Sieht ziemlich professionell aus, was die Leute da vor Ort machen. Naja ist auch verständlich, was will man in der thermiklosen Zeit in De sonst machen ;)
Trägt man beim Segelfliegen eigentlich einen Rettungsfallschirm ?
Vorgeschrieben ist ein Rettungsfallschirm nur in der Schulung und im Wettbewerb. Aber ich würde nie ohne Rettungsfallschirm fliegen wollen, da fehlt einfach ein Ausweg im Notfall.
