- At our 1125 km glider flight in Namibia we found something strange on the ground. Do you have any ideas about the white spots on the ground at 03:04?

Wow! Started flying gliders 4 years ago. Now I´m 16, made my spl this year, and am really looking forward to all the things waiting now for me... wanna fly there as well :D
Congrats man!! I’m currently in training at the moment with hopes of going solo next year. Staying patient! I’ll hopefully get my SPL at 16 and eventually move onto a TMG license.
You started flying with 12 years?
@@hazza836 just keep going, then the day will be there soon😇
@@kristofkellhammer9208 made my first flights with 13, started as a student with 14, going solo two months after my 15th Birthday, SPL with 16 and now I am almost 17… So almost 4 years… 4 flight seasons better said😁
Love the video's Stefan and congrats on the 1125km flight... I have been flying radio control sailplanes since 1978, but have only flown in a full scale sailplane (Grob Twim Astir) twice while stationed in Germany back in the late 80's and loved it. Thanks...
Thank you 🙏
That cloud base is insane!
Stef, it seems that the conditions were so good that the pneumatic vario just stuck on +5
Looking forward to come and fly in Germany some day, now i am just getting my English radiotelephony license to fly out of Italy.
Well done man!.. super flight! keep soaring!
A very nice video again Stefan! Danke Sehr!
Gerne 🙏
Love this surronding. One day I would also like to fly in Namibia
It´s so cool to see the contrast of Bitterwasser and Veronica airfield. It looks like you are in a different country :D
Yeah but the conditions haven’t changed xd
Wow this brings back memories. I flew a few flights at Bitterwasser in 1988. Blanik. The previous owner of Bitterwasser, Peter Kayssler, flew the Blanik one day and half of the one wing broke off. He landed the Blanik safely. Bitterwasser was not as crowded as it is now. But the thermals were just as great.
Has someone an idea about the white spots on the ground at 03:04? Was there a fire or are these some kind of animals (spider webs)?
Might be some sort of plant, perhaps dried out?
My guess is that this is dried land.
My best guess would be some kind of surface fungus
Looks like myriads of miniature salt pans
White flowers that came up after the rain?
Looks nice 👌
Hi Stefan, are these the white trees of Damaraland? Fantastic videos of Namibia flying, keep them coming 😁👍
this is Sterculia quinqueloba, also called Egyptian plane tree or large-leaved star chestnut tree; it is growing on granite rocks in order to escape being eaten by elephants;
in some locations like here in Damaraland, Namibia, it has a pure white bark
It looks like there are dark grey patches and sometimes, within the grey areas, white marks. Perhaps these are dried up pools with some kind of white deposit? Perhaps the grey patches are not fully dry... Probably a long walk to find out.
Wow nice thermals in Namibia!
I need to fly there one day!
Awsome!
The sweet sound of vario.....
Wow! Almost 9 hours in the air; Climbing at 8m/s; More than 1000km distance…
Any one of those would make me ecstatically happy! 😆
And the most important thing. All this great stuff without an engine ! :D
@@sebo011111 Exactly right, that makes it even more special! 👍
Wow looks hella fun. But where I am doesn't allow gliders haha lol
Where are you?
@@jonas6799 island country
How would you protect yourself from wildlife in case of a forced outlanding?
Running. Fast
Just thinking about it there are limited options.
1. Try to have a lodge or airfield in reach at any time.
2. Have Rangers ready to get to you quickly
3. Stay in the plane so wildlife won't bother you or the other way around ( you will be cooked from the heat if you stay in there for longer that 10min I suspect)
4. Wildlife is not much of a danger in most areas (insert reason here)
I'd assume it's 1, 4 or something I did not consider.
@@Juhujalp If you can make fire most animals wont bother you, and you could bring a gun
@@ericoschmitt Fire is a good point. I assume at least Stefan does not bring a gun as most Germans don't have much to do with guns and I assume he would not train to use a gun only for flying there.
@@Juhujalp I don't like guns either but I'd be happy to have one with me there. And some basic safety/aiming/handling course can be made in one hour
What model glider is that?
It's a TwinShark he mentions it at 48 seconds and there's a link in the description.
Correctly 👍
👍
Barren looking.
looks like a sim flight... i mean the game developer is so lazy he just copy paste the terrain settings
Hahaaa 🤣
First😀
You were really quick! :D
Had my first ever flight in an ASK-21 glider yesterday. Absolutely loved it and got to fly it too! Will definitely become a glider pilot next year!
Wow, great! All the best with your glider training and many happy landings 🤙🏼
@@SteFly Thanks very much! 👍🏻
