I found very interesting GoPro cockpit footage of the Junior World Gliding Championships 2017. It was the second competition (scoring) day at the 4th of August, where we had flyable conditions. Nevertheless it was a difficult task....

die Kommunikation mit einer Groundcrew und Nutzung des OGN hat bereits jetzt zu einer Massierung der Pulks vor dem Abflug geführt und ist keine gesunde Entwicklung
Hallo Phillip, da gebe ich Dir zu 100% Recht, dass das nicht gut und nicht gesund ist. Mir macht es auch viel mehr Spaß individuelle Entscheidungen zu treffen und außerhalb von Pulks zu fliegen.
Ich habe heute deinen Artikel über den Vorfall auf dem Hahnweide Wettbewerb gelesen. Das regt zum Nachdenken an... Schön dass es Dir gut geht!

Hi Stefan, das freut mich wenn jeder mal kurz nach denkt. Und wenn es nur 2-3 Situationen sind, wo du vielleicht dann doch eine andere Entscheidung triffst. Das kann alles den Unterschied machen. Wettbewerbe sind spannend und machen Spass, wir sollten alles tun damit wir weiter in einem fairen Wettkampf fliegen können.
Thanks for making these, and especially for the subtitles! This is valuable material for me as a relatively fresh pilot with my certificate completed mostly on mountain waves. Can't wait until my education allows time for me to get into competitions!

Oh and btw, I wondered, is it always thermal flying at the JWGC or any other competition or are there tasks that implie ridge/wave flying ?
Hugo Girod Usually you fly with thermals. From time to time there can be some waves also in a flat erea. I don't know of a JWGC with ridge flying, but I guess Austria applies for the JWGC 2020 or so...
True, I didn't think about Austria with Alpine soaring. Thanks a lot for your answers ! :)

That´s possible, but will get very long. Perhaps from some sailplane Grand Prixs next year. ;)

Stefan Langer Cool da freu ich mich! Generell sind so erklär Videos ultra cool! Wie wäre es z.B. mal wenn du ein Video bezüglich Flugvorbereitung für einen Überlandflug bzw. für einen Wettbewerb machst? Das wäre auch cool!
So super viel Vorbereitung mache ich nicht bzw. nutze nur die Endlösungen... DWD Toptherm und TopMeteo fürs Wetter und dann plane ich die Strecken in SeeYou. Aber ich kann auch darüber mal ein Video machen ;)
Stefan Langer DWD und Topmeto habe ich auch beides. Mich würde es sehr interessieren wie du bei deinem Wetter Briefing vorgehst, also was du in DWD und Topmeteo alles nachschaust und vor allem wie du entscheidest ob du fliegst und wenn ja, wo du welche Strecke fliegst.
Danke für den Input! Das werde ich dann nächstes Jahr mal an einem realen Flug machen. Die Vorbereitung am Vortag und dann wie der Flug verlaufen ist.

What is all the beeping and booping about?
Thats the Variometer, it tells the Pilot with an acoustic signal wether he is climbing or sinking in a thermal ;)
The permanent beeping is the acoustic variometer and the other beeping is the collision avoidance (Flarm) sound.
Schönes Video, aber mach doch auch mal ein deutsches Video. Sind doch eh die meisten Zuschauer ;)
Egal in welcher Sprache man es macht, beschwert sich jemand ;) Mittlerweile sind über 50% ausländische Zuschauer, weshalb ich es dieses Mal versucht habe auf Englisch zu machen. Ein Video auf Deutsch ist für mich natürlich wesentlich einfacher... und es kommen bestimmt auch wieder deutsche Videos :)
Achso okay. Na dann vielen Dank und auch für die schnelle Antwort. :P
Vielleicht sieht man sich bald mal in der Luft :)
Wo fliegst Du?
Bin "noch" Flugschüler in Ehlershausen bei Hannover/Celle. Wir machen manchmal auch ein paar kleine Videos auf dem UA-cam Channel LSV Burgdorf :) Ich schaue deine Videos immer gerne, weil ich schon wieder extrem viel Vorfreude auf die nächste Saison habe :-)
Als Flieger sollte man mit Englisch kein Problem haben. Find Englisch eine nötige Entwicklung hin zu einem größeren Publikum😊
