What a delight to have something work out so well. I also used the "Basic Moldable Lipstick Base" and then using your formulations, concocted two stunning lipsticks! Thank you, thank you.
Hi Marie , Just wanted to give ya a fun mixing tip . Try using your Badger Mini Mixer to mix in your pigments once the base has melted . Also , I used a Glade candle warmer to warm my TKB lipstick base . I put all my ingredients into a tiny wee ceramic mortar and pestle that has a pour spout on the side , then put it on the candle warmer . Once things were melted, I used the Badger Mini Mixer to blend my iron oxide and Red 40 . The mixer really helped disperse the pigments. When you’re done mixing and melting, the pour spout helps to fill the mold 😊My lipstick turned out smooth with nice color pay off . I used a bit of TKB Film Fix to help prevent transfer . Seems to have worked. Now I just need to figure out how to mattify it a bit . I used a ton of Kaolin without much luck . More experimenting . Thanks again for your videos 🤗

Hi. I love how you teach all these methods. Can you tell me please, can you use any oil to line the llipstick moulds? I know TKB recommend castor oil but any touch of that on my lips would trigger not very positive memories from childhood. Thanks from the U.K.
Hi! excited to try these recipes! a question: for achieving a mate finish could we use the silica microspheres? or is that not recommended around the mouth area?
You can use silica microspheres in lipstick, but I tend to find enough to make something very matte can be drying-you'll have to experiment to see what you think :)
Hi, I've a lipstick that I really love, but the lid broke so I've kept it sealed in a baggie. I don't really mind this, but it's kind of embarrassing to pull it out when I'm at an event and need to retouch after dinner before photos. I have an older lipstick I don't use, but it's got this great heavy duty metal tube. It's not actually that old that I'm worried about the packaging. I was wondering if I can transfer the bullet over without having to melt it down completely and risk changing the texture or losing a lot product. Maybe if I put it in the freezer?
Hey check on UA-cam on how to transfer lipstick tubes. Basically you put both lipsticks in the freezer overnight and then you can pull them out to change tubes.
Hi Marie! So glad to see you working with solid lipstick. I have one of the metal molds and I love it. It makes beautiful lipstick using the TKB base. I have a question about the longevity of the lipstick. I made some nice shades and gave some to my daughters'. They loved them but in a couple of months the lipstick went all funky. The texture changed and lost its smooth appearance and creamy texture. Since I also happened to my personal tube I wondered what I could do avoid that happening again? Most lipsticks aren't used up in a month so really need to be able to extend shelf life. Maybe something I'm missing in the handling of the product ?
I haven't had any experience with the TKB base, just commercially made lipsticks, so please take my comment with a large dose of salt. :) 1a) did the smell of the homemade stuff change or just the texture? 1b) if you cut off a bit of the top of the homemade stuff, was there a "ring" of noticeable texture change near the surface and it still looked smooth and nice on the inside? or was the texture change just near the point of application and looks fine farther down the product where it wasn't exposed to air/moisture/touch? 2) were the lipsticks exposed to extreme or or fairly rapid temperature changes? If yes to 1a, my first guess would be the base went rancid or you have a mold issue. My first thought would be to add a broad spectrum preservative, I'm not sure what would be best for this. If yes to 1b it could also be a rancid/ contamination issue but I'd worry about it melting and re-solidifying first. If yes to 2 the melting and solidifying can change the texture of a commercial lipstick, so it would most likely effect a home made one as well. maybe a pinch of a harder wax or thickener would help? It might make the lipstick more "draggy" on the mouth though. Hope that helps!
Julie O thx Julie. The lipsticks didn’t smell and it appeared to be on the surface. I know that I would want to have a longer and successful shelf life before I gave or eventually sold them to others. I’m not sure about temp flux’s but I know it wasn’t an extreme flux. I think I will try again and monitor the results. I may also call TKB. They are a good company and maybe they can shed additional light.

Hi Marie, I'm so glad I've discovered your channel after searching lots of videos on lipstick making, and your videos are amazing! What is the difference between bases and finishes? I'm a bit confused whether it's made using waxes or oils or other ingredients. Also if you can make a video only on lipstick base/finishes (if they are the same thing) for matte and cream! Thanks and keep going! 😀😀😀 Cheers
Hi Marie! I’m so looking forward to making lipstick in a mould! I am looking to buy some prep cups because I only have 1 100ml beaker and don’t want to have to do lipstick one at a time with cleaning in between, what is the capacity of your prep cups? I have found Duralex prep cups that are 75mm, and hold 70ml, but I think yours are a different size, what would you recommend? Thank you for spending so much time formulating a mouldable lipstick base!
Your videos are so informative and such a great resource to have. Ive always wondered how to create the liquid matte smudge-resistant lipsticks. Maybe an experiment for another video? Anywho, thanks again for posting these videos. ❤

It isn't as long wearing as the long wear base in the book, but it's also not as grabby and is easier to re-apply in the stick format. I've definitely got developing my own base on my to-do list :) Hopefully I can get the best of both worlds!
Great post Marie! Love the hues on these. Will definitely try the sheer version. I’m also curious about your cook top, looks very convenient and compact. If you could please share info on that if you don’t mind. Thank you! Keep it up!
May I use food powders like beetroot and coca powder to substitute the pigments? Are those able to work with chemicals like magnesium stearate and myristate? Thanks!
Sadly no :( It's not about the compatibility with ingredients like Magnesium Stearate, they just kinda... suck... as pigments. This video was very informative of the ingredients and the process of making the lipstick. Great video. But what are the tools one needs to make any lipstick and where can we get them? By tools I mean not just the mold (which you mentioned) but also things like the thing you had one ingredient sitting on, the measuring spoons etc. Are certain types better than others for any reason? Nothing is too small a detail. Please reply or make video just on the tools to make makeup. Thank you and warm regards.

Hi Marie! TKB is all out of the matte powder , how can I make my own? I was looking at the ingredients and the ingredients are Sericite mica, TD and magnesium stearite. I want to mix these but I don’t know how much to put? My goal is to make a liquid matte lipstick. Thank you!
Which of the pigments could stain the lips ? I love lipstick that leaves a slight stain behind. I’m in love with Bite Beauty lipstick. I’d love to make lipstick similar to their Amuse Bouche or matte . Thanks for the awesome video. Love your hair 😊
I've found the lake dyes and carmine typically do the best staining work, though neither will leave a colour that remains for days. Sadly, beetroot powder doesn't work at all-I tried it years ago and was very disappointed.
Humblebee & Me Thank you so much for your reply. I'll try those when I make lipstick. Can't wait to try it. Thanks again for the informative and entertaining videos 😊
Have you tried the Making Cosmetics brand lipstick bases ? If so , how do they compare to TKB ? I really want to make my own lipstick colors , but I’m not ready to invest in all the separate ingredients to make a base . I also want my lipstick to feel high quality and have a decent wear time . Thank you so much for all your videos 😊
Humblebee & Me , Thanks for your reply. That’s ok . I plan to start with the TKB lipstick base and add some ingredients, such as isododecane to make it matte and long wearing. Hope it all works out . I’ve already experimented by melting down lipsticks I already own and mixing colors . I used a silicone mold I bought from Amazon and it turned out beautiful . This will be SO FUN . Thanks for your awesome videos 😊
Do you think you could theoretically 3d print a mold (and then coat the 3d printed mold in food grade silicone or some other kind of sealant before using it) to make a lipstick mold with a cool design for the stick? Maybe instead of a 2 piece mold it is 3 piece so after taking the top off and putting the tube on the bottom part of the mold pulls apart to reveal some kind of custom design. You could make geometric lipstick, or lipstick with hearts or stars or someone’s name on it.

Dear Marie! Have you ever had an issue when product on your face (like serum or cream) creates small lumps and kinda rolls off? I guess it's an issue of combining hialuronic acid and olivem 1000 and/or hialuronic acid and aristoflex in one product. But it really bothers me! Don't know what to do(((. The product itself in the jar has a very good consistency without any lupms or anything like that. Thank you for your videos and advices!
I believe that's called "pilling"-I've had it happen a few times, though not frequently enough to notice any similarities between the formulas that could be an issue. My reading says it often happens with gelling agents and film formers if used in high concentrations.

As far as I understand matte lipstick, it's not a simple "add one thing to make it matte" thing-it's a "formulate it from scratch to create something matte" thing. TKB Trading has a good free liquid lipstick formulation on their website :)

It may be the base. I didn’t use the tkb base. They were in the freezer all night this past time. The lipstick would crumble when I tried to take them out.
It's the base, then. When I was working on developing my own formula that was mold-friendly changes of 2-3% would be the difference between success and failure.

I haven't had any experience with the TKB base, just commercially made lipsticks, so please take my comment with a large dose of salt. :)
1a) did the smell of the homemade stuff change or just the texture? 1b) if you cut off a bit of the top of the homemade stuff, was there a "ring" of noticeable texture change near the surface and it still looked smooth and nice on the inside? or was the texture change just near the point of application and looks fine farther down the product where it wasn't exposed to air/moisture/touch?
2) were the lipsticks exposed to extreme or or fairly rapid temperature changes?
If yes to 1a, my first guess would be the base went rancid or you have a mold issue. My first thought would be to add a broad spectrum preservative, I'm not sure what would be best for this. I know that an anhydrous shouldn't need one, but since it's a product being exposed to saliva/skin flakes/ etc it might be a consideration.
Hi Marie! TKB is all out of the matte powder , how can I make my own? I was looking at the ingredients and the ingredients are Sericite mica, TD and magnesium stearite. I want to mix these but I don’t know how much to put? My goal is to make a liquid matte lipstick.
Thank you!
Hi Yvonne! Have you looked at TKB's formulation for liquid lipstick? It doesn't need that matte powder, and I've made it and it works well!
Woow so pretty. Looks perfect 😍😍
Thank you so much!
Wowww its amazing mashallah
Which of the pigments could stain the lips ? I love lipstick that leaves a slight stain behind. I’m in love with Bite Beauty lipstick. I’d love to make lipstick similar to their Amuse Bouche or matte . Thanks for the awesome video. Love your hair 😊
I've found the lake dyes and carmine typically do the best staining work, though neither will leave a colour that remains for days. Sadly, beetroot powder doesn't work at all-I tried it years ago and was very disappointed.
CuppyCake78 Thank you ! I shall try beet root 😊
Humblebee & Me Thank you so much for your reply. I'll try those when I make lipstick. Can't wait to try it. Thanks again for the informative and entertaining videos 😊
Did you find a good recipe similar to amuse bouche? I loveee that shade!
I love it 🥰
Wow! Beautiful!
😄😍
Where did you buy the liquid dye from? And is it natural? And also where did you buy the soy lechitin from cuz mine is a dark brown colour?
Please read the partner blog post + the FAQ (www.humblebeeandme.com/faq/) :)
hi Marie, how can i do if i use the iron oxide color on my lipstick but the texture is too dry? i dont still have my liquid pigments.
I'm afraid I haven't, sorry!
Thanks for your awesome videos 😊
can you make a tutorial on how to make camo(military) face paint? I am guess it is kind of similar to doing these lipsticks...
Hello, Please let me know if I can use the liquid red colours to alter the colour of an existing nude liquid lipstick?

I want to make highy pigmented lipstick?
Can i add o only iron oxide as a colr?
I AM FROM GREECE. BUT THEY DON'T HAVE THIS READY LIPSTICK BASE HERE CAN I MAKE IT MYSELF? BUT TO HAVE THE SAME RESULT WITH THE BUYED BASE AS A RESULT?
Any alternative for liquid pigments?
Could someone give me feedback on how the formula is like compared to standard brands with lipsticks?
Humblebee, where do I get those color dye from? I was being advice by some to use food color dye, but I am kind of worried that IF, I use some food dye, they will tint the lips of the user in no time. Super thanks if you could reply on me. :)

Where I buy the pigments for different shades
Can I add isododecane to make it matte?🙂
Hi Marie,
Can you share link of Video your Eucalyptus mint Foot cream.
There is no video for that formulation-if there is no link to a video in the blog post, there isn't a video.
Ok, thanks

Thanks for watching!
Hi can I ask how to make it matte what ingredients will add? Thanks in advance.
As far as I understand matte lipstick, it's not a simple "add one thing to make it matte" thing-it's a "formulate it from scratch to create something matte" thing. TKB Trading has a good free liquid lipstick formulation on their website :)
the mica is pearled, don't use, you must use titanium dioxide to obtain an opaque whitish base and use oxides and liquid dye for lipsticks.
hello, what brand of liquid dye you use please

Omg! That’s the video I was waiting for! Awesome! Would you do a pink version of then? I find harder to work with pink pigments than anything else.. thank you for this amazing channel!
Pink = red + white :) Combine something like carmine and titanium dioxide and you'll get pink!

Nice
how do i make the lipstick matte?
I tried to make these. I oiled my mold up but the lipstick won’t come out the mold. Any ideas why they won’t come out?
It's hard to say, but my top guess would be they weren't frozen for long enough OR that you used a base that isn't mold-compatible.
It may be the base. I didn’t use the tkb base. They were in the freezer all night this past time. The lipstick would crumble when I tried to take them out.
It's the base, then. When I was working on developing my own formula that was mold-friendly changes of 2-3% would be the difference between success and failure.
