  • You'll learn simple lighting setups for a mirror, table, and car shot. Before lighting each of the 3 shots, I'll briefly break down a similar look from a Hollywood film.

    Would you rather have mat lights or tube lights? And why?

    Hi, just an add on, in dinner table shot : white table runner or sheet would enhance the shot like anything, that will be more soft reflective light filling some shadows under the chin of talent, same as shown reference shot.

    For the interior car shot taping some cheap NF filter sheets on the inside or outside of the Side and back windows will help neutralize a lot of the light and you can shoot with a shallow depth of field and any wrinkles in the sheets can’t be seen. Good tutorial.

    I am enjoying this jazz, I was just up late looking at flat matt light but now I will buy a boom arm to go with it

      A boom arm is an awesome tool to have. It can really get the light into some spaces you didn't think were possible

    For the medium dinner shot, did you only use the Sirui light or did you leave the practical light on?

    • @ryanmickey
      @ryanmickey  7 місяців тому

      I had the practical light off!

      @@ryanmickeythanks mate. I always wonder what to do with the tighter shots when you have the practical lamp in frame in the wide shot .

    Curious as to why you used 200 iso for all your scenes especially wondering why for outdoor driving scene. Was it because you did not have enough NDs on camera or for lowest noise? Same question for night scenes inside. Why the lowest ISO? Better dynamic range in dark im assuming?

      Good question. I try to always stick to 400 iso on my Blackmagic camera (native iso), but in these setups, I just happened to need a little bit less exposure, and I didn't want to change the aperture or shutter. Using 200 iso versus 400 iso brings down the image 1 stop of light. My camera has built-in ND's, but it is only 2, 4, and 6 stops. If I had a variable ND, that would've solved the problem!

    Should this video really be called "kid got a free baloon light"?
