Your channel is such a fantastic resource. I'm in film school and that covers a lot of the basics, but to see it in real life has truly been the key factor in my growth as a cinematographer. You my friend are a national treasure, haha, but seriously I can't ever fully express how helpful your videos have been in my development. You're talented and share that knowledge and expertise with us. Thank you, Brady.
I called this type of shot implied window shots, where windows are in visible in the shot. Its difficult because it takes more for audiences to believes the lights are coming where you want them to come from.
How are their faces equally exposed at 02:44? Was that deliberate considering the younger girl doesn't have a light source like the other woman in the shot? Thanks!
What stands are you using when booming lights out that far? A tutorial on setting that up, stands, safety cables, etc. would be really helpful. I am constantly needing to boom things overhead but never feel comfortable doing it. Another great vid btw, thanks man!
How much time do you often spend testing and lightning a shot until you get the look you want? I'm just curious... isn't that something a DP should have planned before the day of shoot? 😮
Prelights are a luxury most of the time you don't get as a DP. If you're lucky you get an initial location scout, then a tech scout which you can then make some plans with your gaffer and key about how you want to light it. But unfortunately, sometimes you just get thrown into a location or scene and you have to think on your feet to figure it out on the day. Not sure what he had for this shoot, but a lot of the time you won't have time to test or sometimes even to plan how you're going to light it.
Thanks Brady, this was great! Btw, I have the same G-Raid. Good quality for price but the noise is making me crazy. Especially when doing sound work. Might make it my backup instead of project drive.
You were in Norway?? Norwegian subscriber here! Love your content, and as a beginner getting into lighting and cinematography these videos are so helpful. One question: I was surprised by how far away the therapist's key light was in the wide shot. Was that intentional? I thought one want to try to put the key as close as possible for a soft look. But I understand that in wide shots that is not so important. Curious about your reasoning here anyways
It looks very good. But in movies i dont like practicles. I always look at this lights and think that who ever turn on lights at day. Light that not light anything?
Hey fantastic content but don't you think there's a lighting continuity error between the wide and the close up of the young girl. The close up looks natural and light is coming from camera left although when we go for the wide, the lighting on the left side of the face of the girl seems to be too much considering there's no motivation towards her. Just a constructive bit of criticism
Too lit. It reads as "stage". In itself, and out of context it's a pretty frame. But in the context of suspending disbelief, I think you guys got ahead of yourselves and over engineered. As a result, it looks very pretty, but pretty staged. These things are subjective, right?
that was such hectic intro and I love it hahaha

Incredible content, as allways Brady. Thank you for your time making the video, really inspirate me to make more lighting setups on my own. Cheers.
Thank you!!
Can you do a beauty lighting next?
Fantastic as always. I love to hear your thoughts.
This is very helpful thanks again Brady

It good to see you again broh.
Love your videos and how you explain your set up. It's fun to try and guess what you did when you first see it and then the break down
Thank you for the Insight man this was seriously helpful!
Excelent my friend!!!!

Thanks dude! They’re just basic combo stands I believe! The arm had a junior pin which made me feel better
I want that hat
Really nice! Just a question: why use a net if the light is dimmable? Or does the net do other things too, like diffuse slightly as well?
Yooo! This is nice. Thanks a ton for the insight
thank you!
Good stuff!

For the closeups, why did you decide to change the direction of the patient's key light?? Great looking results!

What focal length did you use for the close up of the crying woman?
Looks wide. Looks interesting! :)
You did great for the setup you had that's for sure! But why blocking like this though? I feel some of the pain could've been avoided no?
Fooled me
And what do you use to be able to draw on the frame in your lighting break down videos?
I have a tropiccolor arrows pack!
@@BradyBessetteThanks for that info
Well well well, I recognized the RED camera interface, this is not the Brady I used to know.
Hahaha I’d love to know what is the Brady you used to know
just wondering how long it took you and the team to get the lighting in the wide shot right?
did you paint your fingernails black for negative fill?
Yes exactly
@@BradyBessette 😆👏🏼. Happy filmmaking mate 🍻.

manfrotto wallspreader would makes everything much easier, no needs for stands on the far key light
I thought the same thing a few times, but unfortunately didn’t have one on hand
@@BradyBessette these is on piece of equip that is actually really cheap to get,
Why did you use a net and not just dim it down?
It was at 0.1% already!
@@BradyBessette Oh you actually said that in the video, didn't peep it. Very good to know that my 600d bright bright. Just purchased it.
Who’s the young girl. She has excellent micro expressions
first god damn

These things are subjective, right?
I disagree, Pinky's is not up
