The Silver Surfer animated series should never been canceled in the first place. 😀👍
Hear hear!
I noticed you forgot to include Rolie Polie Olie in the 1998 videos. That was actually a pretty successful show for Playhouse Disney, honestly probably the most successful cartoon they had until Little Einsteins and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse
@MewPrincess2000 Thanks for pointing that out. My own kids watched Rolie Polie Olie all the time, so I'm not sure why I missed it in my research for this year. I'll be doing a recap after I finish the 90s that covers everything I missed in both decades though, so look for it there!
@@dr.animaction You're welcome. I look forward to the recap
The rest of 1998 lineup are still great today. 😀👍
So ends the year of my high school graduation... I pretty much only watched The Simpsons and sometimes South Park, by then. This was the year without Beavis & Butt-Head and Ren + Stimpy, Simpsons was starting to wane aside from a few. I guess I was finally "outgrowing" cartoons by then... or it was just another so-so year for the medium.
Next is 1999, which had so many that year! And 4 of them had major longevity: Family Guy, Spongebob, Futurama, and Ed Edd n' Eddy. They may as well be 2000s cartoons, the same way The SImpsons was pretty much a 90s cartoon (animated sitcom) based on its debut and number of seasons. Good way to end the millennium, century and decade!
@chrisrj9871 Yeah, 1999 was a busy year for me personally, but the video(es) should have a lot of fun stuff in it!
I like The Lionhearts and I wish that a second season would happen. 😀👍🦁
Ooo-ooo-oo-de-lay
Oo-de-lay
Ooo-ooo-oo-de-lay
Oo-de-lay (Ahh, oo-de-lay)
........
Yeah, I was a Playhouse Disney dad. Had the CDs. Knew all the songs backwards and forwards. Heck, I still sing Bear in the Big Blue House to my dog. I live such a sad, little life.
XJ-9 and Danny Phantom were the only Nick shows allowed in the house. Kids weren't fans of Oddparents or Sponge Bob (which my sister thinks I brainwashed them).
And I still believe the conspiracy why Jack Kirby creations failed in visual media was all because of Stan. Name a successful F4 property. Myself, the '67 Hanna Barbera series is still my #1.
And I never could understand why Saban couldn't keep models aligned in their morphs. Deidre's transformation looked downright painful. "The Air Above...*bloodcudling scream*" With so much drawing from the Ulster cycle, was surprised by no mention of King Conchobar's nephew, Cú Chulainn. Then again, it was supposed to be before Deidre's tragedies that Yeats was such a fan of. The Irish in me was glad to see an Irish IP using actual Irish in the roles and not *gasp* some dang Scots in an Irish role (see Sean Connery in Disney's "Darby O'Gill and the Little People").
@TenNoZeorymer72 Believe me, my wife and I still frequently speak to each other in kid's show sound bites and sing the songs randomly too. It's all part of being a (at least somewhat) present parent (I say that because when my kids were little and I was working for the Navy I was on the road at least 2 weeks a month). And I also think that there was some Stan Lee sketchy-ness at Marvel back in the day, so you're not alone there.
As for Mystic Knights, I was just impressed that we got as much real mythology as we did, and the Irish authenticity was absolutely essential to not ruining the whole thing from word 1!
you forgot a few shows that where on cbs kids line up like mythic warriors for one
@joshuahamilton2245 Thanks for pointing them out. I'll be doing a recap video at the end of the decade that covers any series I missed in both the 80s and 90s, so look for them there!
Oh man, Celebrity Deathmatch is just a fun show. Having Stone Cold Steve Austin on there was just brilliant. The whole Pokemon thing passed me by, though. Entirely. Never watched the show or played any of the games. I know through culture osmosis what it's about and who the characters are, but it just never appealed to me.
@Dorelaxen It's definitely a love it or hate it gameplay hook, and it probably depends on your entry point. Culturally though, you're absolutely right....you're going to know about Pokemon whether you want to or not lol
True about what you said about Pokemon, a series that clearly hasn't needed to have anything more to say about itself compared to what has already been said.
After the infamous Porygon episode in Japan during December 1997, Nintendo stuck with the Pokemon Anime as it was already planned for Western Release via 4Kids Entertainment.
It was a massive 98 and 99 seasons of Pokemon the Kanto series (Also known as Pokemon the Beginning Seasons) that also had the Orange Island arc held for the early 2000s because the Mewtwo Strikes Back film was in the cinemas during Christmas 99 while Pokemon 2000 Power of One was in cinemas during mid 2000.
I clearly remember Pokemon series in those early years, made me the anime fan that I am today and Misty was one of my strongest Waifu characters during my teenage years.
So I can say Pokemon clearly had a heavy influence on me despite my awareness of Japanese Cartoons was already sound before Pokemon aired.
I think Neon Genesis Evangelion aired in 1999 in Australia on SBS had shown me a side of Anime aimed for an older audience that I got introduced to later on when the world was in Y2K mode.
@TBoneTony I started my Pokemon fandom with a copy of Pokemon Red on my original Gameboy Color, so my kids got to be lucky enough to be raised as Poke-fans from day 1!
I always feel that parents being present in their kids' lives in some degree is a good thing. I gave my sister a Switch for Christmas so she could local play games with her kids whether they are with her that weekend or not. :)
@TenNoZeorymer72 Couldn't agree more!
People hate 4kids for this
I love cartoons and anime
@stevenlisten Same!
The Pokémon dub had an amazing soundtrack
@dwainsimmons3447 That it did!
Digimon must have aired in 1999 then, but I do clearly remember Pokemon games adverts airing followed by commercials of Digimon Tamagotchi-style battle game electronic toys around that same time.
So maybe Digimon aired early in 1999 while Pokemon aired around 1998 and maybe middle school life was busy for me at the time. So my memory might be hazy.
@TBoneTony Yep, I've got it on the 1999 list, so you'll definitely see it next year!
That was the weird thing with those two properties. We liked Pokemon for the Game Boy games, but not the cards or anime. Loved the Digimon anime and cards, but killed too many of the tamogatchi and couldn't get into the games. My daughter is still of the mind that Agumon would warp shinka to War Greymon and simply step on whichever Pokemon that was sent against him. I knew I never should have shown her "Bambi Meets Godzilla"
@@TenNoZeorymer72 Bambi x Godzilla crossover must have been legendary. LOL
@TBoneTony I'd watch it lol
Here's some shows that weren't mentioned on here and these were part of the CBS Kidshow block that started in '98 (you already mentioned one of the shows that premiered that year and that was Franklin): Anatole, Birdz and Dumb Bunnies (which ran for only 1 season), Mythic Warriors and Flying Rhino Junior High (which ran for 2 seasons).
@DAMGoodEntertainment Yeah, I definitely missed those in this year. I'll be including them in the makeup video though!
MTV Celebrity Deathmatch kick ass. 😀👍
@jamesmoss3424 Definitely a lot of fun!
@@dr.animaction I agree. 😀👍
My sister likes The Powerpuff Girls. 😀👍
I got an update on 1984 animation 80's episode 1 of Wolfrock TV has now been found. 😀👍
@jamesmoss3424 Thanks! I checked it out, and it looked like a pretty fun show!
@@dr.animaction your welcome my friend. 😀👍
Catdog will always be one of my favorite guilty pleasure cartoons. 😁
@tmfuentes2001 Cool. It was never really my thing personally, but love what you love!
@@dr.animaction I mean, despite the gross disturbing nature of it and the mean spiritedness tone I still like it to this day (that's why I also like cartoons such as The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack and Ren & Stimpy for that reason alone tbh)
@@dr.animaction Also, did you forget to make the playlist for the 1998 Animated Series Intros public again? 👋
@@tmfuentes2001 lol, you guys know me so well. I definitely did, but it's available now!
@@dr.animaction Thanks! 👋
Kind of ironic for George Lucas to talk about preservation given how far he has gone to try and bury the original unedited Star Wars versions.
@jfwfreo Good point!
Part 3
@stevenlisten No part 3. 1999 Part 1 next week!
Most of this list flew under my radar at the time. The few I did catch and watch: Celebrity Death Match, Silver Surfer and Powerpuff Girls. And the whole pocket monster rage in both 98 and 99, lordy you could not avoid it.
@KnowledgeLost Very true! I honestly missed most of what hit this year and next as well, but even looking back there's not a ton from either that catches my attention very much.
@@dr.animaction for 1999, my biggest memory was the premier of Batman Beyond. A worthy sequel for the best animated series!
@KnowledgeLost Absolutely. One of the decade's best!
One of the saddest things I've ever seen was when a woman came into the game store I was working at in 2002 with a collection of Pokemon cards she'd bought and traded for as an "investment" over the years and wanted to sell it to pay her kid's college tuition for freshman year. Explaining to her that price guides lie, a lot, and that stores rarely if ever buy singles for more than 20% of guide prices (and usually much, much less) had her in tears by the end of it. She really thought she was going to just turn her cards into hard cash whenever she wanted and had no idea how to get even a fraction of their "book" value on the open market, which is the only way you can ever turn a profit on private collections.
Not the first or last time I've had to do that sort of thing to someone speculating on so-called "collectables" but that was the only time I made someone cry about it.
@@richmcgee434 I've seen similar with 90's comicbooks.
Sorry to this but correction
You forgot that the PPG had a dvd release 16:12
@Quawnaime No need to apologize, I appreciate the correction!
in 1998
Another Great video Dr
@jasonscott1978 Thanks, I appreciate that!
I like pokemon my favorite pokemon is Biaxin. 😀👍🦊
I'm an Eevee purist. Ever since Red, I always went with Eeveelution teams to the finals when doable. Was mad when they were missing in the Hoenn games originally.
@jamesmoss3424 I'm partial to Rayquaza myself. He was the main guy on some of my earliest teams!
Tabletop games? You have my attention. :)
@richmcgee434 Something I'm a pretty huge fan of and am just looking for a chance to babble about lol
@@dr.animaction All I ask is that you give proper due to the Fallout tabletops and my favorite, Hero Quest! Still haven't found anyone around here to play with and the pup makes the dice slobbery.
@TenNoZeorymer72 Consider it done!
@@TenNoZeorymer72 Ah, but which flavor of Heroquest? Vintage MB? The Advanced Heroquest from Games Workshop? The modern remake?
Sadly, mom struck again with my original I got back in the early 90s. When I heard Joe Manganiello pushing for the crowdfunder for the one that just got released, I jumped on it.
Darn Hasbro and its crowdfunding bloodmoney! (I also have the HasLab Victory Saber and Deathsaurus from Transformers: Victory and the new Arcee on order)
Okay, I'll ask - what show is the space fleet serving as a backdrop at 6:00 in from? They're maddeningly familiar but I just cannot place them.
@richmcgee434 It's a scene from Invasion America.
3:00 Lake what now? Got that one past the censors. :)
Although to be fair, the legit dictionaries insist "hoo-ha" (yes, it's hyphenated) simply means a great fuss or noisy commotion, especially about about something relatively unimportant. Also a row or rumpus, the latter of which also sounds dirtier than it actually is. Been that way in the OED since 1931. The genital reference is much more recent and still only found on slang dictionaries. Several language sites suggest using the effectively synonymous "hoopla" instead to avoid giving offense and creating a lot of hoo-ha.
Amusingly, urban dictionary claims "hoo ha" (no hyphen, two words) is military slang for everything except the word "no" and is supposedly used mostly by airborn and rangers. You've got a military background. BS or not?
@richmcgee434 I know that its use is subjective, it was just funny :)
As for its use in the military, there are actually two variations. In the Army we use the word "Hooah", which does in fact mean pretty much whatever you want it to. It's kind of like how the Smurfs use the word Smurf. And Hooah can definitely mean no, just masked as a yes lol
The Marines though use the word Hoo-rah, which I'm not as familiar with but I think is usually an affirmative.
