Dr. Animaction is a certified authority (certification, like all credentials, less than valid) on all things combining eighties, animation, and action. This channel is an opportunity to discuss that specific combination of adjectives. A lot.
The channel is a mix of thoughtful fanboying, random thoughts, and of course lists. All revolving around those wonderful 80's properties that my generation was raised on.
If you love these properties, then stick around and share your thoughts. If you don't, then maybe watch a couple of videos and you'll grow to love them like I do. Either way, welcome to the channel and thanks for watching.

That damn duck! I almost remember his dumb voice...
@RancidGravy That kind of makes me glad that I missed that one lol
Metv toons launch June 25
@coreylasseigne Yep, and I'm looking forward to checking it out. Sounds like a pretty good programming line-up!
The Hanna barbera shorts Yogi bear Huckleberry hound Pixie and Dixie Snagglepuss Hokey wolf
Didn’t captain caveman com out of flintstone kids
@coreylasseigne Captain Caveman definitely made appearances in the Flintstone Kids, but I think his first appearance was Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels in 1977.
Hi, doc. I also have several deck-building games from Renegade Studios, like G.I. Joe, Transformers, and Power Rangers. So far, the Power Rangers and G.I. Joe games are fun, while Transformers is more like a guessing game since you don't know what card you landed on. However, Transformers has the transform mode, which is fun to run around in. The only thing is that some of the characters are online exclusives, like Ultra Magnus and Jazz in the expansion sets. I also like Marvel Champions, which now includes the X-Men, although they sold out pretty fast. The X-Men Mutant Insurrection game, which uses dice, is also fun.
@AyaC I've got the Transformers Deck Builder too, and it's definitely more complicated than the others. I want to pick up the G.I. Joe/Transformers Alliances one. I've got the core set of Marvel Champions, but none of the expansions yet. I'll have to check out Mutant Insurrection, but I do have Mutant Revolution. Eventually I hope to cover all of these on Stream!
@@dr.animaction Mutant Insurrection is slightly better with a total of 16 X-men characters and more interesting scenarios. Marvel Champions require more mental calculations. Marvel United is actually the easiest to play but the expansions are a nightmare to get. I only have the X-men core set but it is really fun and fast-paced. P.S: On a side note, you sound muffled in your live stream, you might want to check it.
@AyaC I appreciate the input and feedback. I'll definitely try to keep figuring out the audio and hopefully have something better for this week's Saturday stream!
Got this game on a whim from my flgs… first solo game I’ve ever played and love it!
@Firefly1-1 The stream was my first time playing the one player version, and it was a ton of fun (even if I can't roll dice to save my life)!
Very cool! I always liked Breaker in the comics and the 'toon. I even did some "Tweeting" AS Breaker (Alvin Kibbey, just swpped to then-modern, vs the NATO vesrion of Breaker in the movie) after "Rise of Cobra" released where I was posting about how to get stuff done qhile the White House was infiltrated by Zartan, etc. Good times.
@joshuakanapkey6570 Very cool!
@@dr.animaction Thanks! I promise I was NOT drunk or high when I wrote that; mebbe tired, though! 😆
@joshuakanapkey6570 No judgement here either way! lol
GI Joe DBG is amazing imo.
@KujakuDM I agree. Such a great set of play mechanics!
I for one would like to see how these characters were depicted in the comics and cartoon. Also, when were you in the service?
@Rhomega Cool, I think that will definitely be a fun topic to cover. To answer your question, I was in the Army from 96-03.
R.I.P Breaker he was a great computer hacker on the team.
@jamesmoss3424 Definitely a cool character!
@@dr.animaction I agree.
- . - . - - . - Good vid. Best use of "over" in Hollywood is, of course, Airplane!
@TenNoZeorymer72 True enough, but I wasn't talking to Cpt. Clarence Unger in this video!
Is there some way to actually read the original run of GI Joe comics that you are aware of?
Not cheaply. I don't know if it is a Disney/Marvel thing, but only the 1st issue and the new issues (301 and onward) are available via comixology. No digital version of the Marvel that I have found and the physical books are ridiculously expensive.
@KujakuDM Not that I know of, though there is an (expensive) omnibus edition coming soon through a Kickstarter campaign.
Can you go more into the battle that had a bunch of joes cut down? First I'm hearing about it.
Check out the original GI Joe ARAH comic issue 109, Death in the Desert. Quit a few Joe's died in that issue
@KujakuDM I may do some specific comic content in the future. As BMXIX said though, check G.I. Joe 109, which is where the Battle of Benzheen started. Sevel Joes died there, and a few more throughout the story arc, which runs through issue 113.
Amazing video
@evanthomason5734 Thanks I appreciate that!
Are you gonna do the 2000s next?
@stanleyanyiam3035 Maybe at some point in the future, but for the next series I'm going back to the 70s!
The 80s and the 90s were magical times for Saturday morning cartoons.
@TBoneTony They most certainly were!
@@dr.animaction Been watching some Saturday Morning Cartoons on Orbital Bacon's channel since last month. He has some really good ones that have seemed to be long forgotten by the Cartoon Industry it seems. And the Saturday Night Anime has been just as good too, though he often plays it on the edge with a few of them due to possible license issues that might be a problem in future if streaming sites want to claim his content for themselves even if they haven't done anything with their lesser known IPs. So my advice, watch a few while you can in case if Streaming Sites decide to change their minds.
Thank god! I’m a 90s baby.
@MichaelN.sChannel.-cx7jp I love 90s shows, so I'll be increasing my 90s content moving forward too!
@@dr.animaction Thanks, can you please review 21st century cartoons from the 2000s and 2010s in the future?
Can you do animated movies from the 90's
@garveyneal1672 It's definitely on my radar, probably before I start the 70s!
I always like how they wound say “Crud” when they were upset
@geoffodensos7187 Yeah, they did a good job with character personalities!
@@dr.animaction they also had parody characters like David Litterbin
I agree the Turbokat is a awesome and so are the other vehicles that Jake and Chance created such as: the Cyclo-tron , Turbo-mole,an unnamed Amphibious craft, the Hoverkat ,the Sandkat and the last one we saw the Thunder-truck.
@mindwipe8788 The show definitely has some awesome technical design!
After Burner meets Secret Squirrel, one of my all time favorites. Now if someone can put out a more budget friendly Turbokat that I can buy
@dustinsimoneau4780 Yeah, I'd be all over that!
Glad to have you back. Hope your doctorate is going well. I was aware of SWAT Kats as a kid, but was never really interested. I did watch an episode after the What A Cartoon podcast covered it, and I enjoyed what I watched.
@Rhomega It's definitely a well-written show with some great designs!
Swat Kats was a great show
@BobbyMoore2-mp8wb No doubt!
If Revolution does finally come out, I hope it doesn't get Disney'd. Didn't see it in syndication. I was lucky enough to have Boomerang and watched it there before they dropped the H-B library in favor of CN originals. So wished Season 2 got the ending it was meant to have. Like Callie become Mayor and Felina the head of the Enforcers and both of them exposing the incompetence of their predecessors and *pardon* the boys. :D
@TenNoZeorymer72 Yeah, that would have wrapped things up nicely. I doubt that's anything like what we'll see if Revolution ever does come to fruition though :(
@@dr.animaction Maybe they'll do one good thing - rename the "Speed of Heat". 🙃
Swat Kats and Biker Mice from Mars. Two of the best of 1993 (and debuting just a few days apart!).
@Dorelaxen I absolutely love Biker Mice too!
1993 sure had a lot of great animated shows - Rocko, Animaniacs, Sonic "SatAM", and Beavis & Butthead, tnaf! I dig Swat Kats, I didn't watch every episode but I like it. A lot of cartoons in the mid 90s got cancelled too early because of the power rangers; wouldn't surprise me if Swat Kats was one of them.
Hopefully not at the same time in a crossover. That would be one heck of a "Tom and Jerry" story. :P
I like Swat Kats I watch it a lot when I was a kid it's should never been canceled in the first place and it's Ted Turner fault.
@jamesmoss3424 I definitely love this one too!
@@dr.animactioncool 😎. 😀👍🐱
Big fan of swat kats also met Barry Gordon a few times at comic cons nice guy
@michaelsaunders4256 Very cool!
Can you review every 2000s and 2010s animated series soon?
I'm going to be focusing on pre-2000s content for a while, but I'm sure I'll get to them!
@@dr.animaction Okay.
@@dr.animaction Okay.
Welcome back! I assume much progress has been made on the actual Doctorate and now you've got time to get back to the toons. As always a great breakdown of what HB was doing for a decade. Always found it ironic that, less than a decade after they split off to do their own thing Ruby-Spears got folded back into the conglomerate. I hadn't even heard of Rock Odyssey. I always thought Transformers: the Movie was Scatman's final role.
@triem23 Happy to be back and getting into the groove again! Rock Odyssey wasn't exactly Scatman's last role, since it was originally produced in 1981, but because it sat on a shelf until it finally got released due to the producers being uncomfortable with the content, it ended up being his last credit. I always find it strange how things like that work out.
well kinda a sad ending but no matter what, HB studios had a rich history and let a tremendous mark on the animation history! They certainly were a large part of my childhood. One I'll never forget! Thanks for the retrospective Doc! A trip down memory lane! BTW, I love swat Kats too!
@mikevivian3648 No doubt, Hanna-Barbera was legendary in their time!
Can't wait for the Anitmated Nineties to get one!
@chrisrj9871 It's definitely coming!

I don't wish to seem rude, but Bucky O'Hare was 1991. I'm just personally a stickler for that. I very happily include 1990-1991 and 1999 in my playlists of 90s-anything! That said, greetings! The 80s and 90s were great times for animation worldwide!
@ArttuTheCat Hi Arttu, glad to have you back in the comments!
Pirates of Dark Water and SWAT Kats are among my favorite Hanna-Barbara cartoons. Also add the 60's version of Johnny Quest to the list.
@DragonKingX78 All excellent choices!
Who the fuck are you? Gawd I wish I had some purple cake right about now
I gotta say my favorite Hanna-Barbera creation is still to this day Tom and Jerry, though Super Friends comes in a close second. That was some prime Saturday morning fodder for me.
@Dorelaxen Both are great series!
I really enjoyed this series. I hope you do Ruby Spears next.
@mikemayberry7121 Pretty good chance!
im glad your back and your going to the 70 series of animated series question will it just be the 1970s cartoons or you going to have additional stuff with it as well
@joshuahamilton2245 I plan on starting with cartoons, but will hopefully be releasing some supplementary episodes about other kinds of productions!

@mindwipe8788 It's great to see so many of them preserved so well!
14:12 Is *that* the Judy Jetson series we were wondering if it existed or not some time ago? Also, CHOMPS was one of my favorite movies as a kid. Partly due to Valerie Bertinelli, partly because it involved a robot dog. :)
@TenNoZeorymer72 Ahh......I guess that means you're a Daggit fan lol. Also, I found the special when I was first looking for that Judy Jetson series, but I don't believe that they're referring to the same thing. Still haven't found the other one though, so who knows?
