Question Party is very simple: a bunch of viewers tweeted questions at Amber and Tarik, and now they’re being answered! In this episode, @Greenpenguins09 asks, “What’s your favorite Dutch food?”
If you want a chance to have your question answered, follow @ambermruffin on Twitter and respond to her call for questions using the hashtag #AskAmber!
Show Synopsis: Amber showcases her signature smart-and-silly take on the news of the week, responding to it all with a charming, late-night mix of seriousness, nonsense and evening gowns. - Розваги
That’s probably how Amber landed her husband - he came over for dinner and NEVER left! 😂😂😂
Its called Spice Trading, not Spice Using, Tarik.
Don't get high on your own supply
😅😄
@@jefferyautry3555 what I was gonna say. 😅😂😅
Maybe they should hold one container, open it up and "use" one of their shipments?
It will change their lives.. 😋
Just saying 🤷🏽♂️..
bwahahahaha 🤣
"They drink spoiled milk for fun" 🤣🤣
The Dutch don't get high on their own supply (of spices) 💰😃
You know what, that might actually explain it. You don't become a world super power by using up all the spice you're trying to sell.
🎯😂😂😂
Lol😂...in this case, I wish they would.
Eureka! You've made it all become clear to me: The Dutch were so business-minded and so focused on trade they couldn't taste their food, their minds were elsewhere right through mealtimes. So their taste buds atrophied and now they no longer have any.
@@dontaylor7315 So, the love of money is not _only_ the root of all evil, but also of blandness. (Which, come to think of it, is a kind of evil, so it all fits 😵)
"A land that flavour forgot..." she ain't lie 😂
This is a biggest lie
How you start the spice trade and not add any to your food lol ☠😂
If we add it to our food, we don't have enough to sell it and make a profit.
@@BlaauwKlavertje 😂😂😂 touche
@@BlaauwKlavertje um no, it doesn't take that much to fix the food and it is possible to do something called importing and sell to your country.
@@kremove I don't think you know the enormous greed of us Dutchies.....
I'm Dutch...I don't feel offended 😂😂😂😂😂🤷 #truth
@@sawsanmohammed1513 Bosche bollen or stroopwafels 😋😋😋
I’ve had some very nice food in the Netherlands, but it perhaps wasn’t traditional Dutch food.
🤣🤣😂🤣
Very. Offended.
Well.. talking about karnemelk.. point well made I say 🤢
What about the stroopwafles? I realize you can't live off them, but it's something.
that is a fact, hot fresh stroopwafels from the market in Den Bosch was one of the best things in the Netherlands
Those are a treat. And hey high five to the person that has been to my hometown.
No, all sugar. No flavour. Give me cajeta and churros any day.
Although spiced Gouda I will take
Well, don’t cross the southern border to taste their effort... Especially the honey and fresh cream variant.
Stropwafels? All carbs and a cavity waiting to happen. And if you have a cavity, don't eat one
The spice trade also applies to the British. Went all around the world, ran the largest (spice) trade network up until that point, and USE NONE OF IT.
Pineappletaco they do a lot of curries and stuff. also spiced pickles and chutneys served with foods that are mild on their own.
@@FringePrincess but they do not use any of the spices for their own dishes, you don't usually mix it, so spices are o n l y found in the curries - 'regular' english dishes are just boiled and seasoned with salt
And India 🇮🇳
@@FringePrincess I would assume the curries came from the Indian influence anyway though, no? So that’s still not traditional English food if im not mistaken
@@victoriap1649 It is now. Got treated to English curry when I was there. They made it in their home regularly. All food comes from somewhere. Like spagetti Bolognese in Sweden. Not Swedish but still very traditional Swedish food these days.
you need to seek out indonesian food while in the netherlands. they got all the flavor in the dutch colonialism game.
My dad was Dutch-Indonesian. That food is amazing!
The thing about Dutch cuisine is: the Dutch don't have cuisine, they just have food.
Truth.
We dont want cuisine. We want to be rich.
That's why I eat at Indonesian restaurants. Mmmm.... rijsttafel.
Colonialism’s best legacy-giving flavor to the oppressors’ homelands! See: England and Indian food.

can't forget 'bout the Surinames either
Oh yeah. The Indonesian cuisine is so much better than stamppot.
@@jajamanman The suranames the best in food!
Those spices were worthless to them, that's why they traded them away. It's the same reason that I have been trying to trade my workout DVDs.
not wrong but I feel the need to defend Dutch cheese, they have fantastic cheeses, cuz they got so many cows.
Indeed. You can find all kinds of incredible cheese all across Europe, but I mostly eat Dutch kinds.
Oh werd. The Dutch Cheese Game is deep. The rest is true, 100%. They don't even like salt on their food, and forget heat.
@@tyanez Because salt if bad for your blood pressure. We use salt, but not that much.

I will listen to Amber rant anyday!!
I'd listen to Amber read bus schedules. She's adorable no matter what she's doing.
I don't speak even a word of dutch but I want Amber to do a whole show in dutch with subtitles.
This actually raises more questions than answers

This is why we eat mostly dishes from other countries and cultures. Just like the US.
Well bless your heart...
The US does it because people from those cultures immigrated there.
@@raynemichelle2996 same here
I just moved to the US from Den Haag and I'm having the opposite problem. Everything I'm eating here seems too salty or too sweet.
It's a marketing ploy to get you to buy more drinks.

What part of the country? The US is full of amazing food, but it really depends on where you are.
Don't come to California, the food will be too spicy.
LOL I lived in Amsterdam for 8 years and the only thing i don’t miss is the food
What about the snacks??? I heard lots of people like those though 🤷🏽♀️
Hey! We got great cheese and... 🤔... that’s it. I got nothing. 🤷🏿♂️

I'm an Italian living in the Netherlands. It's all true 😭😭😭
My condolences on being an Italian living in the Netherlands. To go from such a rich food culture to what Amber described must be rough. I visited Amsterdam once and I can't remember a thing I ate. I've been to Italy and many other countries. The food on my travels has been a big part of the fun. I still remember a specific meal I had in Rome over 20 years ago. @@jacquelinecallejas1390 Because you tasted every single Dutch food/snack/pastry during your visit ..... to just Amsterdam? 🤣 The Netherlands is more than just their capital. Give me a break.
Pretty sure the old addage is "Never get high off of your own supply." in regards to the Spice trade.

Shes just asking for gout and scurvy.
“It is food! Sustenance only!”
"How do you start the spice trade and not put anything on your food. "😂😂😂
C'mon now...the Dutch Caribbean has some nice things! I love you, Bonaire Kabritu Stoba!
...and then there's Denmark, where they don't even sweeten their whipped cream...
...the horror!
Why would you need to sweeten your whipped cream? Maybe that's why they have less heart attacks, high cholesterol, diabetes, etc.
@@hkrug666 😆😆😆
@@RankinMsP if you're implying that they don't have a sweet tooth, then you should look into what Danish pastry is about 😁
Wait? Since when do you sweeten whipped cream, isn't that total overkill? I mean it's already fatty and you are going to top something sweet like cake or icecream or so with it anyways, so why add additional sugar, it doesn't even make sense
Dying!! 🤣🤣🤣 How do you start a spice trade and don't put any seasoning on your plate! 😂😂😂
Too much seasoning. Bad for your health
Dutch food has no flavor. England: am I a joke to you?
My favorite Dutch food is ale (La Trappe).
This is one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard Amber say. And it’s so true.
Is this the closest Amber has come to acknowledging Jan, her Dutch husband, on tv?
She speaks about him in interviews all the time, but I haven't heard her mention him at all in comedy bits.
She's mentioned him several times on Seth Meyers. I think at least once by name, but usually by "my white husband"
She's mentioned him before, including on Seth Myers.
"How do you start the spice trade and then don't put any season on your food?"
Easy. Don't get high on your own supply.
But their Stroopwaffels are delish!
You can always tell a Dutchman … you just can't tell him much.
Back in the fall of 1988, I was lucky enough to be in Amsterdam. I stopped at a little cafe & got the best cup of hot cocoa ever!
Don’t forget putting mayo on your fries! Why?
Because it's yummy. That's a thing in Belgium too. And (despite you philistines' insistence to call them French fries) Belgium is THE nation of fries.
@@Blafmaf They called them French fries because French is also spoken in Belgium, duh. Also, why is Belgium a thing? Why aren't you just France and the Netherlands?

There was one place in Amsterdam that made amazing churros and we had that for dinner like every night
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Question Party! This was great and I am looking forward to doing it again soon, Amber and Tarik. You are my new best friends
I am Dutch and I really don't like karnemelk. Wayyy too spicy!
Karnemelk pittig? Ehhh 🤔🤔
My very limited exposure to Dutch food, mainly from two visits to relatives, consists of... lots of kinds of cheese, all of which are tasty; pindakaas, which is tasty but not really Dutch (it's peanut butter); meat fondue, which is again tasty but not really Dutch (it's from Bourgogne in France), and pizza, which is again tasty and everyone knows it's not Dutch (it's Italian).
what about haring and kibbeling and hutspot and andijvie etc. etc.?
Amber snd Tarik, y’all never had that shaved chocolate for breakfast? Someone was holding out in you!
On a high school group summer tour, I stayed with a woman in Amsterdam who worked for Delft, and she had great taste in food. She brought my travel buddy and me Korean food that had a genuinely spicy peanut sauce on it. Yum! Granted, the band was only there for 2 days, so I didn’t get the full effect of Dutch cuisine, but some people know the secrets s to getting food with flavor.
England - Thanks again Dutchies for making us look better!
I made stampot this weekend. And had brusselsprouts with sauce this weekend. My hubby and kids... Added cheese to the brusselsprouts. I refuse to drink karnemelk.
I'm Dutch and I don't know anyone who drinks karnemelk.
Counterpoint: eating Hollandse Nieuwe is like injecting sea salt straight into your taste buds.
There's other flavors besides salt. In fact, salt is not even supposed to be a flavor. It's supposed to highlight the other flavors.
I think the fact that a very salty dish is the counterpoint is actually more proof of the initial argument.
There is some great Indonesian food in the Netherlands...
I feel seen...
Lol, when I was married and lived in Norway I lived in a small town. One of those towns where the stores close at 10 and on Sunday. And that was in the early 2000s. Got got used to the food and taste of things after 5 years. When I came back to the United States I could any food for 3 days lol. Lots of waffles with filling. Now my daughter is in business school free and my ex-wife town has 24/7 everything now. Dutch food is not great lol.
this was news to me, but I do believe....however I used to teach with a Dutch woman who complained that we don't season our food right. She could have complained that we use too much sugar, but no, she said we are "afraid to use salt" and that even cookies need more salt than we typically put in them.
I thought there was a lot of Indonesian food in the Netherlands?
That was hands down the FUNNIEST historical joke I've ever heard. lmbao
Bottled spice mixes and the tiny Tabascos, that’s what you bring.

Seriously, how do they have no spices whatsoever? Salt is their idea of spicy. It's so bland
It's been a while; I don't remember what I ate there other than fries and an OK apple pie at some random bar.
The Pennsylvania Dutch will fix you a meal out in Lancaster County, PA! Try their smorgasbords! The Reading Terminal in Philadelphia is steeped with their traditional foods and wares throughout the market!! You should try them both!❤️❤️
Smörgãsbord isn't Dutch....it's Swedish 😉
And eat dessert first!
The pennsylvania Dutch have nothing to do with the Netherlands not even Dutch ancestors
Agreed that their food (especially the pie 🍰) is delicious, but the Pennsylvania Dutch are actually from Germany, not the Netherlands.
Karnemelk is AMAZING
I seem to remember the Brits were in the spice trade too, competing with the Hanseatic League. Guess what? The Brits don't season anything either.
