- In this 2nd part of building your own Secure Comms Telephone Network we explore using Military grade Commander Gateways to securely connect two locations in the World together. We use Public Cellular and Starlink Satellite as our WAN connectivity. The two Gateways bridge the LANs together using VPN tunneling and Cryptographic Algorithms for the ultimate in security.

This is what Walter White would be into if he was a network engineer rather than a chemist.
Chemistry is more rewarding. It is wild that after leaving Grey Matter the best idea Walter White could come up with is cooking meth. Instead of "Hey Elliot, I've got this idea." it was, "Hey kid, you wanna cook some meth?"
Man's going to be the only person making calls when the world ends

Nice piece of technology, probably not cheap. In case of an emergency how do I call that unit, incase zombies are in the KW area?
who’s he going to call?😂
@@eliotmansfield himself lol
This is awesome stuff, especially the layer-2 tunneling to bridge local networks together!
Wow! This is cool. I'm just getting in the hobby of radio. I'm so glad I ran into your channel.
Very often shells arrive at military positions, because the position is detected due to a working Wi-Fi access point from Starlink!
Wifi hotspots dont go far even if you have advanced radio detection equipment.
@@aquahood this can be done when you are positioned for a long time, more than a couple of hours. but there are mobile groups that walk around with a starlink in their backpack, and transmit a picture from a drone
1. This isn't WiFi. It's mobile phone signal LTE which is 4G.
2. Starlink doesn't provide WiFi, not from space.
Stop believing that all internet access is WiFi. That just makes you look stupid.
@@SakakiDashI've only seen 5GHz wifi last just past the end of my culdesac
Cool videos from the man. Thanks for your effort
really enjoyed this video, thanks for uploading.
Thanks for the follow-up. This answers a lot of the questions i had! :)
Really? Questions answered? I didn't hear any answers. He asked "How cool is that?" First how cool would it be to know how did he come by this equipment? Secondly how cool would it be to actually understand how it was set up? No questions were answered.
You keep saying secure. Security is context-dependent. Remember, it’s not that you can keep secrets forever. The best you can hope for is keeping your secrets long enough to be effective.
Nice gear!
They'll be decrypting a lot of older stored stuff with quantum computers soon
@@AgentOffice You can decrypt German military messages from WWII today with a paper craft Enigma machine.
@@CandyGramForMongo_ yeah but 2000s is about to get decrypted
Commissioner Gordon, I love the new system!!!!
OMG you get some super cool stuff!
Is it basically a ruggedized Dejero 211? Where do you get one and what is the approximate cost?
Nice floor outlet man that’s cool!
Thanks!
Where do u get all these toys??
Looks like Cradlepoint gear.. I’ve done those set-ups and they work well.. 👍🏼
Rogers eh? Happy late Canada day then I guess!
Thanks for sharing your specialty knowledge
If both of the commander gateways are on dynamic ips, how do they know how to reach each other? Is there a server in the middle? Would love to see the configuration of those commander gateways like you showed the configuration of the modems in your previous video.
Interesting setup. That test set is pretty sweet. Though not really best practice to remove antennas from active transceivers without shutting those radios off. You can damage the radios.
I love it. I want the same setup.
Ive never seen a wall socket mounted in the floor, looks neat
Many hotels use the same way
Man, how do you get those devices?
Ooo, "cryptographic algorithms"! Sounds impressive.
Hearing the aircraft outside makes me think of black helicopters honing in on you to figure out what you're doing. This is all way over my head, but I find it fascinating. If I even attempted this or found that equipment and tried to buy it, I would not be surprised if "Suits" showed up at my front door. Also curious about that dial box I've seen in your other videos too.
I build this stuff for the 'Suits' so no problem.
Cool
I wonder if you could have a custom ring back tone.
Very cool. What do these Commander Gateways cost?
I like this setup
A few questions:
Where there are slots for sim cards if it using any ?
Is this use cellular network for free ?
Is this device works in other countries also ?
Oh this will be cool!
nice kit !!
This channel is crazy good. Hit the algorithm right and I could see this having tons and tons of views and subs.
I have a legitimate question: where on earth do you run across this stuff? Lol. Day job is related somehow, I assume?
@@peterfairlie2296 kinda figured was something along those lines. Thanks for the entertainment. 😎
you switched the ATA endpoints at the 555 side. Other than that, pretty awesome. I'm curious, do the LTE boxes connect to civil reagular cells? Do they need five SIM cards?
I have the same question. How are these boxes just "using" the cellular network? Ist there some secret military stuff happening or are there just regular SIM cards inside configured for all the networks? I'd love to get more inside on that topic.
@@Ultravoremost likely normal sim cards. The box just connects to a remote server.
Point to point vpn server would mean that one of the ends would have to have static IP. So most likely they use a server to at least to do the handshake
@@peterfairlie2296 Yes, but how is it authenticating to the Carriers?
@@peterfairlie2296 So my FirstNet SIM would work with that setup?
Who do you think is most likely to be bugging you or intercepting your comms?
This stuff is genuinely amazing. I hope you won't get in trouble for showing us! ; ) Regarding the security though, do these systems actually get updates... ever? I'd like to know what VPN protocols and implementations are the boxes actually using.
I'd say that a fully common open-source (and up to date) solution would almost certainly be more secure, but the advantage here is obviously the ease of use in the military environment and ruggedness of the hardware.
Great stuff man, keep it up!
what is the maximum speed with the antennas you showed without the antennas
Is there a central server somewhere else involved in this setup? Usually with VPN tunnels behind NAT one side has to have a public facing IP, but some VPN systems like ZeroTier have found ways to work around this
It must have. I guess the military owns it's own vpn server.
This is crazy dude 😁 Expect some order emails from some shady business owners 😉
Are these commander gateways available as surplus or is this one of those things that only privileged individuals can really do? What I am trying to say is that this video leads me to believe that anyone can do this with the right tools. You have shown us the tools to use which seem straight forward enough to use, but how available are these tools?
After watching this i immediately wanted to buy one, this has got to be the most obscure bit of tech ive ever looked for, not a single hit on ebay or even google for this item, fml
Dude, what if we built a giant server. All the subscribers have a giant network and we as subscribers can call each other. That'd be one hell of an exponent
Where the heck have I been?! This is way cool!
Been debating between the bag or a pelican or a bin. Still haven’t made up my mind yet. Any regrets on the backpack?
I think this dude is part of the Justice league he got a call from Batman and Wonder Woman this is 😎 🆒️ 😎
Totally Kewl~ 👍 😀
Where do you even get this stuff? I mean I've seen some unusual hardware in my day, but they never seem to let me have stuff like this.
its bad ass but i wonder why analog and could you connect that in a wat to call a regular phone. also is that kid of like a uhf vhf hf frequency the thing in the case
Analog because he use SIP adapter, but he could also use VoIP phones.
He could call regular phones with a SIP to PSTN server or provider.
If you dont mind me asking, where do you acquire all this cool equipment?
I'll take... "The Internet" for one million Alex.
I can't see SIM card on front? How they register to LTE?
On most if not all LTE You won't get static IP - how they establish tunnel for first time?
Are they using third party server for NAT punching? I understand phones are joke - but in reality it's doing link aggregation on all bands?
New subscriber here. This is so totally cool. What type of pricing and where can we purchase these. I worked in TSCM years ago and I used all kinds of crazy stuff. I still have use for the technology to find and negate threats for businesses. People do not realize that everything they say and do is being logged and recorded and stored for some future use. That is why it is so silly that NASA lost all the BS telemetry from the fake trips to nonexistent space...lol
Where to secure purchsing such things and a portal long range transmiter and reciever...im a noob...but im looking mobile base unit & person handhel do it all walkie comms
Where and how did you get this equipment?
im waitng for the fbi to show up lol
Is it actually using LTE infrasturcture or is it p2p? Hauling SIM cards all over the world to get on the network and being able to be tracked by IMSI seems like a bad idea. I would think this is something you would only use inside your own country.
What the device on the far right?)ooks like telephone ?
What's special here? Who hasn't seen an IP phone in their life?
I need this
JOLLY GREAT INTERCONNECTING SYSTEM. Would be a great Necessary system, after what happened here in New York City on 9/11, here. Thanks 🧐👍🏻
Do you believe the official 9/11 story ?

I KNOW SOMETHING OF SOMETHING BUT CAN'T EXPLAIN IT TO U &, DON'T REALLY LIKE TO. WORKING FOR CITY GOVERNMENT I WAS ONE OF MANY THAT HAD TO CLEAN UP BODY PARTS DOWN THERE FOR TWO DAYS..
where did you buy this set up
This channel is wiild. Where are you getting all of this stuff?
@@peterfairlie2296 damnn...
We as subscribers should make a giant ass server with all these phones. If anybody else is down with this, drop a comment!
Actual military grade is 1024 bit encryption. I know this because I used it in the field. The rest of it looks pretty solid for civilian use. Frequency hopping is also not new but it is good to see something similar using cell networks.
@@peterfairlie2296 I'd like to clarify that the USAF Edge Connect and the Firstmile Commander Gateway are both using a Dejero Gateway. I'm sure that's what you meant by saying the USAF is using this gateway but I wanted it to be clear to others that the USAF is not using the drop in solution from Firstmile Tech - they just both use the same vendor. Honestly both solutions just look like a Dejero Gateway 211 in a rugged box. I think I've met my quota for the word gateway today..
@zekodun You have to retake your crypto lecture. Lol
The only thing that would be better is if the phone was a military radio set.
Where can one aquire such a device.
What's this unit called and would this work in the UK.. or is this a globally system
So ummm where do I get stuff like this?
Where can we buy this
Mind if I ask your profession as this equipment you showcase the cost, the technical knowledge needed is not for everyone. If Networking or related is not your field how did you attain the knowledge
How does it sound when not decrypted when recieved?
@@peterfairlie2296ok
Roughly are we talking more than $20k for this node? Slicing and dicing has to be the best concept for secure comms with the cherry on top being the encryption.
20k would be the retail price for a government. If interested I can set you up for a lot less then this. Contact me at for more info: contact@commandergateway.com
What phone is that at 4:53?
Isn’t that just FSK though? Lol. This is basically a GBP with a VPN. I don’t know how secure CDMA is I mean project Prism didn’t seem to have any trouble decrypting it lol they handed it over. Are you really gonna trust Verizon to handle your traffic? This doesn’t seem any more secure than just using a vpn. I mean how many cell towers can you associate in one are with 6 tiny antennas like that? It’s fine be 3 CH maybe less in some remote region. You’re prob in a city. Idk how much I would trust that algo for that device since a civilian can just buy one. The random seed in the cpu could be known. I know it’s hopping but i call bs on it always being able to access 6 towers on both nodes. Cool video though.
So this thing uses multiple telecom providers? Don't you have to pay for access to use these? How do you register a phone number?
@@peterfairlie2296 thanks for the answer, was very curious about this!
This is good information to have. Gotta start learning!
EDIT: Can these be easily bought? How did you get yours?
He is the CTO of the company that makes them.
thats really cool! But is this kind of hardware usually not "top secret"? Or can anyone buy this? I mean if the enemy can get this hardware, would they be able to check how it works / intercept the calls?
its probably not classified until it has a crypto fill, but it should probably come with a zeroize button and thermite grenade holder in the pelican case.
mmm, secure coms , military
An easier way to do that is just enable Wi-Fi calling on all your cell phones using your Starlink
Secure communication on the Internet? You mean untraceable? Oh, no, of course, it's not. Military means in condition of war ordinary lines of communication are unavailable. Even radio communication is traceable. But anyway, there is a challenge to make long distance (2000+ km) voice calls using only "the two cases".
How much was it?
Thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks ```````i really love this video `````again thanks from bottom of my heart with lots of ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤💐
Geez, I thought I was a nerd..
Is there a site where these can be purchased at?
The Commander gateways sell for around $20,000.
@cleare8, just google Dejero GateWay 211
Youl be a rich man if you mass produce this.
How much in uk pounds brother?
$10,000 USD
where do you buy this stuff LOL
Dude is this like a “ President’s “ Phone???
Me this guy. Collab ...mmvdm and dMR
The enemy doesn't need to put the encrypted message together or decrypt it. The enemy just needs to triangulate where all those multiple cell phone transmissions are coming from and pay you a visit.
If you stick and move and realize nothing is truly “encrypted” then by the time they triangulate you or just the phone is there
@@tannerlane9669The things uses 6 antennas to communicate with "all available cellular networks". If the adversary has at least 4 listening points then they will triangulate the position of this device immediately.
@@gcampagn With several sensors the triangulation itself takes milliseconds. How fast can you move?
@@gcampagn If you had an anti-missle system, then you wouldn't be using the cellular network. There are low probability of interception TRANSEC techniques that are being ignored here.
And civilians are just allowed to use military equipment that is still in use by the military these days? Doesn't seem like this would be legal to have.
War ready 😂😂😂😂😂😂
When some random guy on youtube with 5k subs gives tutorial on how to build better and more secure communication than Russian Army have.
Premieres suck :(
"Promo sm" 😁
In Ukraine, such technology would be useful to our military! You have no idea what a problem this is, our military is still using technology from the 70s and Kenwood radios.
Absolute waste of money. Cool as fuck though.
So how and where can I find and purchase search equipment that you have there? I know about star link I’m talking about all the other stuff you have.
Way outdated info. In what universe sip is 'secure voice'? Just sniff and listen at backbone level... And that case is not 'military'. Love the vids but misleading.
tell me you didn't listen to a single word said in the video without telling me
That SIP traffic is running through multiple encrypted VPN tunnels, all you can see over the internet is parts of that encrypted VPN traffic which you cannot listen into
A lot of SIP phones can encrypt audio.
So you have multiple levels of protection
(1) Encrypted VoIP in the phone
(2) VPN Split over multiple paths
(3) VPN Encryption
That would be very hard to put back together, specially the fact encrypted packets are going via so many paths.
To ensure this is effective, each LTE link should go via its own WAN at the SIP server end so no one provider has the complete set of packets.
Coooooooooooooooool.
