European Hispasat user here. Our two main TV providers in Portugal use Hispasat to host their tv channels (encrypted in nagravision), but those transponders are not broadcasting to America. Maybe if you had a dish with the size of a building, you could catch the signal :) It's interesting to see how wide is the coverage of a pair of satellites over the Atlantic

Yes, here in South America there is the same feeds available in the north as in the video, but not the European pay tv services as it is out of footprint

Outro tuga aqui! I remember seeing an article many years ago of a man who was able to receive ASTRA 19 in America with a huge dish, I believe it was 5 meters, it was in the analogue era reception has a lot of noise but was still watchable, it was so much time ago I don't remenber the details. I can't find it anywhere though.

One thing I want to tell everybody: Cubavisión and Cubavisión Internacional, even they share the name, they're not the same channel. Cubavisión is a national channel and only broadcasts inside Cuba, and the other is the international outlet of the Cuban broadcasts. Here in my city is a cable TV operator that has the international channel, why? Because is an FTA channel without encyption and I think they don't charge TV operators to broadcast it.

    • @robfriedrich2822

The reason is licensing and copyright. Austrian television broadcasts the national program encrypted for people in Austria, my father in law, who lives in Germany pretty close to the border, purchased a DVBT receiver, to get the normal Austrian program, the non encrypted channel can't show international shows and also skips movies, would be too expensive to cover all Europe.

It's actually easy to set-up (an old low-power PC, or a Raspberry Pi can do the trick), and works amazingly well. Pi-Hole does the same, it's just another project.
