  • Medial Epicondylitis, better known as golfer's elbow, is pain over the bone on the inner side of the elbow. When the tendons in the forearm get overstretched or torn, they can become painful. Rashard Dacus, MD, at UVA Health, explains golfer's elbow and how rest is the best option for this condition.

Golfer's elbow is -- a lot of it is pain on the inside of your elbow, trouble with lifting or pulling, occasionally numbness in your pinky finger or your ring finger.
A lot of it is when your elbow is bent, you have pain there, and people may wake up in the morning or in the middle of the night with pain on the elbow, and that’s from the inflammation that’s there.
It starts with mild inflammation and then it continues to worsen over time, because people aren’t able to rest. It tends to be the dominant extremity, because it’s hard to rest your dominant hand.
There’s no quick fix unfortunately because a lot of times it doesn’t happen overnight, it takes some time, and so there’s time that it takes to improve. But the good thing is people do get better. So, a lot of it is activity modifications, rest, splinting and occupational or physical therapy. And really, I think within a three-month time period, we’re able to get most people back to full activity.

What if you can't rest it? I have to use my arm lifting things daily and cannot afford to miss work

Hey all, I hope I can add something to this as well! I'm a PT who's passionate about trying to uncover the root cause of common issues and I've been finding that Golfer's Elbow may have everything to do with hidden neck dysfunction. I've put together a short video showing how to figure this out for yourself and what to do about it. Hope it helps! ua-cam.com/video/tLE5ZqeZNQw/v-deo.html

I definitely have it from doing ju jitsu. My very first class someone arm barred my arm really hard before I could tap and now it just hurts all the time on the inside of the elbow when I apply pressure. Been going on for 9 months now... Taken 2 months off and came back to the same pain...

Hey, I tore my bicep (distal tendon) whilst doing BJJ recently, so needed surgery. As I am recovering since 4 months, the injury is now not allowing me to pronate my wrist, and feeling pain in the forearm area as well. My advice to you will be, whilst doing BJJ, just wear an elbow pad from now on.
