Nylon because it's more flexible, abrasion-resistant, and lighter

I have this backpack, after a few business trips the felt pocket lining has pilled and degraded horribly. Submitted a warranty claim and their customer service responded after 3 WEEKS with a "nah, I don't wanna". Avoid this backpack, save yourself the hassle

@@smaao the vegan leather was fine, the inner pockets are made of this felt cloth material that degraded over time

I know this is off topic, but, could you please talk about finding affordable lodging and transportation at your destinations.
When the channel started, Lauren definitely posted a lot of videos on travel planning. You might find something there. If not, I’m sure she will see this request!
I do have some older videos with travel tips, but nobody really ever watched them. 😂 So I do a lot of my general travel tips more so on Instagram.
On my next trip, I definitely want to do a little bit more of that, including budget and transportation.
I don’t really have much of a secret. I like to “favorite “everything I want to do in a city on Google Maps and then find accommodations that are near the things I want to do. And then I find a decent one that is affordable.
When it comes to transportation, I try to make everything as walkable as possible, or using some sort of public transportation !
I wish on the detachable bags that they would put d-rings on either end and maybe even include the strap, even at an extra cost, but then it would give you a matching purse option. Do you know if that's something they've considered?

Im wondering, is there a weight differences between the nylon and vegan leather? The nylon looks like its lighter.
There is, I explained it all in the video. Not much.

No.
Personally, I would always choose nylon over vegan leather. Vegans will never admit it, but vegan leather, which is *_pleather_* basically, will never age gracefully. It doesn’t develop a patina, and it doesn’t hide scratches or nicks.
I have personally mistreated a few nylon bags over the years, even budget totes, and I can’t even see the scratches.
Funny thing on the Mono “kit”... when you first showed this feature I absolutely hated it. It looks like a tumor. You gotta say it like Arnold does… *TOOmor* , but it’s growing on me. I can imagine unsnapping it for my personal bag on a flight even if the tote is near under the seat in front of me, or above me.
So my vote would be nylon, and even though I love the color green, I would have to go with the Oxford blue. However, I *_do not need another bag_* 😢. My carry-on, duffel and tote collection looks like the backdrop of your wheeled carry-ons on steroids! But always fun and informative to see what’s new and think of which I would purchase if I could somehow squeeze in another in to my collection!😮❤😂
I purchased the juniper green backpack after watching your initial review! The quality is amazing. Going to use it in conjunction with my Level 8 20 inch carry on for an upcoming trip to Europe!
I love the ivory bag. But I am afraid when I put it under the seat it will get dirty.
I want to do some sort of dirt test on it soon!
I have the purple icing one and it got the tiniest bit dirty after a few flights but no scratches. I used this pink leather cleaner solution from Amazon and the very imperceptible scuffs all came right off though!

My ivory one hasn't gotten dirty but easy to wipe down.
Always so informative and cheerful. I have the dove grey with both folios. It goes great with my terrazzo carry on plus! Monos quality is excellent.

Don't get me wrong, I love all my monos bags, but I'm struggling with how heavy the hybrid carry on and the Plus are as well as the Metro Vegan leather metro backpack. I am not a weak person and if you pack both full get ready to strain to lift the bags up into the overhead bin. I'm shocked no one says that on reviews. I still use them but even not full the bags are HEAVY!
The hybrid is definitely heavier than "light" advertised bags, but the hybrid is still much lighter than a full aluminum, and most trunk luggage, and "plus" size carry ons!
I’m waiting to see if Monos is going to have a Black Friday sale since I don’t need any bags right now but I do want to eventually get a carryon plus and a nylon duffle.
I like the nylon in the green.

I personally prefer the nylon. It’s lighter and is more flexible

Nomad Lane just came out with a brand new backpack. I'd be curious to see a comparison between that and the Monos Metro backpack. It seems to have a few really interesting features including a water bottle pocket and continuous loop straps that don't dangle. I love my Monos backpack (vinyl black), but I do miss having a water bottle pocket, and the straps are set a bit wide for my shoulders/frame.
I’ll be reviewing it soon. One day I’ll compare backpacks, but i have a lot coming!

Sooooo, prior to watching this video, I was thinking of purchasing the saddle color vegan leather backpack. However, I think I like the flexibility and blue color of the nylon backpack and duffle. Hence, now my dilemma is backpack or duffle. I really hoped that the duffle had longer straps, but there’s always a trade off. At least I narrowed it down to nylon over vegan leather…….. so many great options.
I just posted my vote for nylon! And since I never use wheeled luggage, I have quite the collection of convertible backpacks, but in 30 to 40 L size. For a tote, I would always choose the duffel. Happy travels!
I personally only use my duffel for overnights are car trips. I am much more of a backpack girl when I actually travel on a plane :) there are also not a lot of airlines that would allow the duffel as a personal item, at least outside of the US!

Question....I think I've decided on the Monos Metro Backpack, but am wondering which vegan leather color would look best with the rose quartz suitcases? I can't find any pix or videos showing color combos. Not sure Ivory would be a good choice because I'd alwys worry about it getting dirty. Any thoughts?

Has anyone else experienced a really bad smell from the nylon? I love the bag but the smell gives me a headache and I’m wondering if there is a way to get rid of the smell or if i should exchange for a vegan leather bag.
I really have never noticed a bad smell from anything Monos (but have with other companies) weird!
In my recent flying, I have my monos carry-on plus and the vegan duffle. However, I have been asked to remove the detachable pouch because they count it as a carry on. I have to
stuff it in the duffle bag which is difficult with an already full bag. Love the vegan duffle it sits well on my suitcase. Does not glide easily though over the monos suitcase handles… takes a little maneuvering. The vegan to me is stiff and hard to stuff a lot of things, but it is pretty deep.

Personally, if I were to choose vegan leather, I would worry more about scratches and nicks. Nylon doesn’t even show these in my collection, but vegan leather…??

I’m just reporting on what the brands call them. Most brands call it vegan leather now.
But if you feel this gorgeous quality luxurious material, and then the cheap plastic at Walmart, you will see the difference.

It depends on the airline. Most US based airlines- yes. International- likely not.

ok I am looking at this bags a long time now - love the vegan leather colours but how does this vegan leather feels ? is it like cheap genuine leather imitation or have more of strong modern take on it ? I am big on real quality leather but designs do not much modern or is welllll over priced. so do not want something which feel like cheap wannabe
There is definitely nothing cheap about this. When you see it person, or feel the material, you can tell it’s quality. It’s buttery soft and smooth, there isn’t a textured

Hi! It’s not as padded as some other backpacks, but the material this is made out of is a lot thicker than some of the softer backpacks that need more padding, if that makes sense :)

I wish brands would STOP calling it vegan leather. It's plastic.
But if you want something that looks like leather, and don’t want leather, this is a beautiful option that is chic, soft, waterproof, and certainly isn’t cheap and tacky. I wouldn’t call it plastic either. There is a huge difference between this buttery soft, waterproof material and other cheaper “vegan leather” or “plastic”
