I got the 21” quince in lavender, the Quince neoprene duffel in Thistle and some of their compression cubes. I’ve been using travelpro platinum elite for about five years now with no complaints, with the occasional add-on of the Nomad Lane bento bag. But this is going to be my challenge to travel carry-on only for our cruise in about a month. FINGERS CROSSED!
One thing I found refreshing with Monos is the compression side strap buckles. I have neuropathy in my hands and the buckles were push release and so easy for me to use. The zipper release took me a little, but it wasn’t a deal breaker. The customer service department with Monos was amazing to me. I’m sorry others had issues with them, but their CS was one of the big reasons I went with them. And their shipping was fast. And I’m not affiliated with Monos at all…just an ole country farm girl who is starting to live post illness. ☺️☺️ Closing as I’m looking on the Quince site now. 🤣🤣🤣
I had never traveled carry on before but tried it with my new Quince! The group traveling with me, struggled with their carry-on luggage, and mine glided smooth throughout the trip. I love my Quince!
My ideal interior clamshell luggage would have the zippered flap on the same side as the rods. I agree it's best to have a zippered mesh pocket on the flap

Great video and comparison. I bought the mint green Monos bag and took it on our one month trip to Indonesia. 15 flights and who knows how many cars and taxis. It was great. Obviously, it was dirty and scuffed, but everything came off with the little scrubby it came with. Love the compression part, works so great. No problem with the handles. Just love this carry on.
I am not picky about personal items at all, and not as passionate. What I need vs what others need and what’s allowed on all airlines varies so much, it would be impossible. Some airlines only allow a small handbag, for example, and some allow a huge duffel.
I took the small Beis to Paris for 10 days (I consider myself midsize) during the Olympics and was able to use that and a personal size backpack. I love the mini size!
I’ve traveled with mine twice and it’s been great. Cobblestone hasn’t been a problem, and I’ve been able to lift it above my head easily. (I do agree that the little strap on the front is useless tho!) I use Peak Design packing cubes and wash bag, and they fit perfectly. The true test will be how it does over multiple trips, but so far so good.
Thanks for this fun video! I currently use a Muji, but their handle durability isn't the best and I couldn't find replacement parts even in Japan. I travel to Japan more than any place and I've gotten used to the wheel brake, so I just carry after market handles when I travel. I thought the Aer took a beating for one carry on trip, but I am a long time Aer customer and if they put some texture or something on the shell to hide the scratches, I think that I would try that suitcase. I think I should look more into Quice though. Compression is not a big issue for me because I always check a bag.
WooHoo KaChoo, I was rooting for Quince to win! I purchased the expandable version of this bag for a two week Greek Islands cruise this year based on Lauren’s review and the unbeatable price and both my husband and I loved it. We did get a few scuffs and a small dent in one of the bags from checking them on the way home but are still pleased with our purchase. I even used this bag instead of a larger one when I flew domestically simply because I like it so much. My larger carry on is a TravelPro bucket style and after using the Quince bag, I prefer the clam shell style. Great job, Lauren and Brian! I enjoyed the format of the rankings and hearing all the features and pros and cons of all the bags. I am tickled that I have your number 1 bag for 2024 and totally agree with your assessment of the Quince bag.
The gold Monos trunk behind you is stunning. I have the Monos zippered and love it. I would get the trunk but I need to be able to lift it into the overhead. I'm not sure that I'm capable of that sort of power lifting... I think I would just tip over.
Loved this! I currently have (and love) the Monos bigger carry-on. Have been thinking about getting an international sized carry-on. Quince wasn't on my radar, but recently bought some clothing from them and was really impressed! I'll be looking at the Quince smaller carry-on thanks to your video.

Another great video! I came to the very same conclusion six months ago, when I bought the quince expandable 20 inch carry-on! The only thing I’d really like is a handle on the bottom of the bag for taking it out of the overhead.

I would love to buy the quince bag but I have a hard rule about only buying pink luggage & there’s not even a shade close to pink 😭 It seems kinda silly because yeah it’s my favorite color but it’s also very easy to identify at the airport (I’ve had to check before) & if it ever gets lost I’m able to easily describe it. I’ve had my eye on the July luggage for a while but because there’s nothing wrong with my current luggage set I can’t justify the price tag

This was really interesting! I've wanted a Monos for years bc of the aesthetics but I consistently read bad reviews about their quality (mostly handle sticking) and bad customer service. Also I've never see them ranked on a best bag list by any major travel publication, so I never pulled the trigger. I really want to try the Aer bc of the braking features but the small version is sold out 😭
July Light Expandable forever and ever! And we had a problem with the handle and they sent us a whole brand new suitcase! Plus it's under 5 pounds! And even a flight attendant complimented them.
Oh! You should look at the Muji bags. We have a carry on, a small carry on (may fit under the seat) and a smaller checked bag. All of them come with wheel locks and super smooth wheels. :)

Firstly, round of applause to you the Kelly’s for putting this together. With the switch up this year, I’ve got to ask the question…head to head, does a hybrid beat a traditional zipper?
I think it’s more of people’s preference. Since I only carry on, the idea of breaking into a zipper doesn’t concern me too much, and the lack of latches gives the zippered luggage a little more packing space. Plus, it’s lighter.
I'm so glad (and sad) to hear about the Monos handle issue. I thought it was just me and that I was rough on my bags or something. The first trip that it happened on, I thought maybe my bag was too heavy or full or it was just a fluke. But after the second trip, I decided to shop for a new carry-on. I'm ordering the TravelPro compact spinner. It's 2 lbs lighter, so that's great, but I'll also lose 2L of packing space. 🥴 I haven't tried contacting Monos yet, so hopefully I won't have any customer service issues! I love my Monos, but I can't take the chance of handle issues on my next trip, when we'll be taking trains and buses and not just a plane.

Loved it Funnily enough my favourite carry on bag EVER is not n your list 😔 My favourite bag ever is the July carry on light expandable . And I will tell you why you should consider it . Yes it does jut have a compression side but I actually prefer the 2 zipper sides . For some reason I am not a compression strap girl . But that is the beauty of having so many options it caters to everyone’s preferences. That means when I open the bag everything stays in nothing is going to spill out. And what I also do is pack my towels flat in the space in between the 2 zipper sides ( so I make use of that space ) Other reasons why I love this bag are: customer service ( best I have ever encountered) Durability : I literally dropped it from top of the stairs and was perfect ( nothing broke and only small scratches on it ) Size : it’s small enough that is does not draw attention to it when going through the gate but big enough where if you are an organised packer you fit a lot in it . Weight: I think is pretty much as light as gets if not lighter . Definitely the lightest bag I own , and i own a few as I am obsessed with bags . Yes it does kit come with anything but they packing cube system is great and they are very well made ( you do have to pay a bit extra for them unfortunately ) They also come in beautiful colours They already come with the expandable option and even in the expanded mode it still looks small enough not to draw too much attention. And we do know the people at the gates are like hawks. Oh and I somehow managed to pack the same amount of things I could fit in my heys Airlite, wired but true . . Sorry but just wanted to give my favourite bag a the spotlight . Btw July customer service is so good that when I raised an issue with the bag they sent me a brand new one , so……
I have it! It was featured in my 2023 video last year and I’ve reviewed it. It’s just too small to be in this same category, in my opinion. It can’t fit the same amount as these bags. I’d consider it in a small small bag roundup, but I don’t have enough of those.

My monos are so banged up; and no matter how much a I clean them; the scuffs and marks are everywhere; it’s pretty disappointing because it’s on all 6 pieces we invested in; I’m not sure how your stays so beautiful but I would love the secret! Do you cover them with sleeves? Should I have boughten the lighter colors? We bought black and olive. So sad
I only expand on the way home once I’ve shopped. I’ve still been able to carry on no problem, but if I had to check it, I could, because I’m heading home.

Firstly, round of applause to you the Kelly’s for putting this together. With the switch up this year, I’ve got to ask the question…head to head, does a hybrid beat a traditional zipper?
I think it’s more of people’s preference. Since I only carry on, the idea of breaking into a zipper doesn’t concern me too much, and the lack of latches gives the zippered luggage a little more packing space. Plus, it’s lighter.
I was looking at the quince bag. I wanted to know how it would stand up to being checked.
My expandable one has been checked a few times and it’s still in wonderful condition.

I'm so glad (and sad) to hear about the Monos handle issue. I thought it was just me and that I was rough on my bags or something. The first trip that it happened on, I thought maybe my bag was too heavy or full or it was just a fluke. But after the second trip, I decided to shop for a new carry-on. I'm ordering the TravelPro compact spinner. It's 2 lbs lighter, so that's great, but I'll also lose 2L of packing space. 🥴 I haven't tried contacting Monos yet, so hopefully I won't have any customer service issues! I love my Monos, but I can't take the chance of handle issues on my next trip, when we'll be taking trains and buses and not just a plane.

Funnily enough my favourite carry on bag EVER is not n your list 😔
My favourite bag ever is the July carry on light expandable . And I will tell you why you should consider it .
Yes it does jut have a compression side but I actually prefer the 2 zipper sides . For some reason I am not a compression strap girl . But that is the beauty of having so many options it caters to everyone’s preferences. That means when I open the bag everything stays in nothing is going to spill out. And what I also do is pack my towels flat in the space in between the 2 zipper sides ( so I make use of that space )
Other reasons why I love this bag are: customer service ( best I have ever encountered)
Durability : I literally dropped it from top of the stairs and was perfect ( nothing broke and only small scratches on it )
Size : it’s small enough that is does not draw attention to it when going through the gate but big enough where if you are an organised packer you fit a lot in it .
Weight: I think is pretty much as light as gets if not lighter . Definitely the lightest bag I own , and i own a few as I am obsessed with bags .
Yes it does kit come with anything but they packing cube system is great and they are very well made ( you do have to pay a bit extra for them unfortunately )
They also come in beautiful colours
They already come with the expandable option and even in the expanded mode it still looks small enough not to draw too much attention. And we do know the people at the gates are like hawks.
Oh and I somehow managed to pack the same amount of things I could fit in my heys Airlite, wired but true . .
Sorry but just wanted to give my favourite bag a the spotlight .
Btw July customer service is so good that when I raised an issue with the bag they sent me a brand new one , so……
I have it! It was featured in my 2023 video last year and I’ve reviewed it. It’s just too small to be in this same category, in my opinion. It can’t fit the same amount as these bags. I’d consider it in a small small bag roundup, but I don’t have enough of those.

My monos are so banged up; and no matter how much a I clean them; the scuffs and marks are everywhere; it’s pretty disappointing because it’s on all 6 pieces we invested in; I’m not sure how your stays so beautiful but I would love the secret! Do you cover them with sleeves? Should I have boughten the lighter colors? We bought black and olive. So sad
I do have quite a few light colors. Maybe that’s why? I don’t ever use luggage sleeves. I believe they are supposed to be shown, not hidden :)
Clamshell are affordable for those who don’t travel a lot.
And even more affordable when you travel constantly like I do

How does your Monos look that good ? I have one, 2 international trips, carry on only, and so many permanent scratches and scuffs.

@ No … I have black, I was worried the lighter colors would show marks more than black.
Why give points for expandable if it makes the m=bag no longer within the international carry on limits
I only expand on the way home once I’ve shopped. I’ve still been able to carry on no problem, but if I had to check it, I could, because I’m heading home.
