    One thing I liked about the UI in this game is that, in lower difficulties, they stick the radar to the top of the screen. That way, even if you do end up relying on it to find your way, you still have a bit of peripheral vision to see around you and where you are going and what you are passing. Even better if you play on the hardcore difficult where the radar is just gone and you have to navigate the world with your wits.

    You can use your 3 speech, which you probably don't have, to lure the executioner out of his house. And by getting caught and fighting with the executioner, you won't be able to do quests for him.

    Anyone thinking of playing this game after watching Kev here are some spoiler free hints. ‘Luck of the drunk’ is a perk that makes lockpicking easy, which is quite a feat because it’s unwieldy otherwise. Plate armour is a game changer because you basically don’t take damage as long as you have stamina left, armour and clothing contributes to a noise statistic which will ruin stealth. Train with Bernard AS SOON as it’s available. During speech checks you’ll see an option with a heart in a crown symbol, this is social status and is easily manipulated with charisma gained from clean, nice clothing and a well washed Henry. Most importantly master strike your way to victory, peasant.

    It's harder to get into than skyrim but well worth it. The combat and skill system is especially good, you can really feel Henry getting better at whatever he does. A good example is that Henry can't read at the beginning, so any text you read is going to be jumbled up but once Henry starts learning how to read from a scribe, texts become less jumbled. Combat too; the weekly tournament is impossible to win at the beginning but as you raise your skills, it gets a lot easier.

    The thing about low life expectancy at the beginning was likely just a joke, but I'd like to say this for those who don't think it's a joke (I've known many people who thought it to be true, so I don't assume people knowing anymore).
    In medieval times, it is only the "average" lifespan that was low, and it was low because of the high count of babies and young children dying. However, once someone lived past those more dangerous years, they were good to go and usually lived to actual old age (unless they were killed or a plague happened). So the high infantile mortality is what brought down the Average lifespan to be seem like it is so low.
    However, it wasn't that uncommon for people to die of old age in their 60s-70s.
    It's still lower than now, but it is not as low as to die of old age in your 30s-40s. That is just nonsensical.

    This game is severely underrated. Most players gave up too early and easily because they weren't super over powered by the first 10 minutes of the game.
    This game is realistic in the combat difficulty, you are a peasant with no formal combat training. Of course you are gonna get fucked up by bandits and trained soldiers.
    But over time, with training and practice, you can really notice the difference when you go from having to run away from a single bandit, to being able to clear out a camp of 5 - 6 bandits or Cuman soldiers by yourself.

    • @Jamushu
      @Jamushu Рік тому +8

      *First 10 minutes? You're not even surviving basic combat encounters **_10 hours in._* Except for the bandits loitering around Skalitz, lmao.
      I appreciate the realism and the dedication to the grind, tho. So I'm tryna stick with it, but I honestly can't blame anyone who couldn't handle the whiplash. *It took me **_FIVE tries_** just to beat Kunesh on Hard.*
      That realization of *_"Oh shit. I'm not "The Chosen One"._*
      *_I'M JUST SOME SCRUB!"_*
      can be quite the kick in the nads for folk.

      Making you work for it was a major strength of the game. And even when you get good at the combat, there still remains risk. Even when I could take out whole Cuman camps with ease, I still had to flee certain fights due to overconfidence/ carelessness or just getting surrounded. While I could still dominate most encounters, it felt earned.

    • @voggers2593
      @voggers2593 Рік тому +6

      @@Jamushu A huge tip for this is just like a real soldier, train. Once Captain Bernard gives you your initial training to work with the Bailiff, you get the option to go train with him any time during the day you want. You can pay him to just immediately increase your skills, or you can spar with him to level your skills naturally. If you spend even just a day or two (in-game) sparing with him, he'll quickly get you up to snuff with the basics of what you need to survive in actual combat with low skilled opponents. Then you can do bandit hunting missions for him to get even more experience, as well as money to buy gear with and train even more.
      I believe this was the intended way the developers wanted you to do it, but left you to discover for yourself that maybe you should spend some time practicing before trying it for real.
