This game's graphics were way ahead of its time.
Gotta love when there was a time when you actually had games that were distinct in it’s beautiful visuals.
Now every bloody AAA game aims at “realistic” graphics and frankly most look like they’re from 2013.
Like, we already hit the peak of digital entertainment a decade ago or what?
@@Lajos_KelemenUE5 there’s your answer why
@cpt_choomba no its not. In 2013 there wasn't even UE4. The engine from Ryse is the Cryengine from Crytech
That's because the Cryengine is an absolute beast
@@TheRealBillixlol UE5... Did you just start gaming this year?
I absolutely remember Ryse: Son of Rome. Definitely one of my favorite games I’ve ever played
the sad part is that when i did my playthrough my audio was broken and i didn't know how to fix it even with guides online, i might do a replaythrough now that my audio works again
Definitely one of the games ever made
The same sad part is when it ended
woulda been Funnier if you didnt write the word Favorite
Same here, it was the first Xbox One game I played and I love how it makes you feel like Maximus from Gladiator. And that whole Damocles thing I thought was awesome, like Kratos from God of War, but Roman!
This was my fave MATN video. Just hearing someone who studied Roman stuff laugh at the inaccuracies was hilarious
Isn't that every instance of Rome in popular media tho
From the general population not being able to distinguish a Corinthian helmet from an imperial garlic helmet, historical innaccuracy is a given at this point
Although I'd love to see a legionary constantly fight solely using 360 spin moves
yea, good thing it wasnt a documentary
Garlic helm
@@koraegi The best is realizing to a lot of people Athens and Sparta are interchangeable with Rome. And I don't even know want to know what most people think Macedonia was. Probably a country of nuts or something dire.
The story was the thing that I really took away from this game. The gameplay was a little repetitive but the set scenes and cinematics were amazing. Voice acting was hearty and strong. Characters were believable, I was immersed in this game and the message it serves and by that message alone you could understand why the Roman's were around for so long.
I hate that this was an xbox exclusive it looks amazing
@@GAGSTER366 its also on pc, it was only timed exclusive later they re released it on pc
@@GAGSTER366 it was on PC
@@GAGSTER366 just like how I hate many games are play station exclusive that look amazing, you win some you lose some
I like how it took history and... ruined it. Would you believe that Nero's son was not in fact a man who was emperor of Rome over 100 years later from a different dynasty?
The actual story of Vindex and Galba's revolts against Nero, Nero's death, and the Year of Four Emperors that followed is, I think WAY more interesting.
This is the first time I've ever seen Kev have a video get age restricted shame on you UA-cam.
TO BE FAIR... there were a lotta limbs getting chopped off. So I'll give it to em this time
@@Kevduit aw come one now. those limbs were loose anyway. I would say the ending was a little bit more problematic. As Metal as it was.
@@Kevduitwhat I don’t get is like it’s art, a game, it should be allowed
@@Kevduit god dude, make a ko-fi or patreon or something, this censorship ruins so much of your editing style for a MATURE game.
@@Kevduitvideos about video games and movies should never be age restricted imo. Ya know, cuz it aint real.
I love that the pilums vary between “takes three seconds to charge up” and “instant throw, instant kill” depending on the context.
I remember this as if I didn't just see Kevduit playing a "rated M" version of this a few hours ago! 😅
What was that?
@@ericad528 he had to re-upload the vid with censored deaths.

@ChapinCatrin Seriously? On a video game dude? Come on UA-cam
Kevduit: “Ok UA-cam, let’s try this again. ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!?” Lol 😂
Ryse absolutely nailed making you feel like a badass
imagine a whole roman army comes dodgerolling through all defences you got 😂
Pure terror
This was one of the few games I completed because of how much fun it was. Would recommend 10/10 👍
because of the story. bro. its like an epic gladiator movie. if developers did more games like this; they would be swimming in money
@@ChickenMcThiccken agreed
im ab to start my first playthrough now
@@mitcho5452 I wish you luck brother 🪖
Completed it in every difficulty and gotta say it was worth it and multiplayer was fun with my friends 😂
I thought this game was actually great when I played it back in the day. I played it all the way through in one sitting because I didn't have the new console my friend did. I was unironically in that "thinking about Rome at least once a day" phase, all in on it lol. Spartacus was finishing up on showtime at the time too. Seeing this again brings back so many memories.
Spartacus is still so amazing. I watched it within the past year.
it's a bit of a bummer that some of the cg didn't hold up super well, but the writing keeps you locked in.
such an underrated game. i really enjoyed playing it. and 10 years later, it still looks stunning visually
One of the most epic quotes I've ever heard in my 20 years of gaming:
"If it is the blood you want, I'll give you more than you can handle"
"Death can have me when it earns me."
Its not that epic.
"You say you are protecting Rome. Who will protect you from ME?"
- Damocles
Gorgeous game, wish they came out with a sequel
crytek is working on ryse 2; but its not going to be about rome
It is false leak or crytek stoped development at a road block. Probably, crytek did a realty check when project at its bare bones then stopped development. Crytek has 3 team currently iirc. 1 for engine, 1 for crysis 4, 1 for hunt showdown.
The motion capture is fantastic. Better than 99% of all modern titles.
Underrated game and we NEED a second one!
It was speculated to be developed but if i recall it was cancelled
I quit playing ESO a few years back and forgot this dude existed. Then UA-cam randomly shows me this today, and I had to go back and look to see why the name was familiar. Glad to see he's still out there making great vids. Used to have me rolling on the floor.
Ryse is the Avatar of video games. Even after 10 years it still looks better than 90% of games released today.
Wish we had a open world game set in Ancient Rome
AC odyssey mayb
@@renzenallen5147 That's Greece
I mean if you want a glorified chore list
A.C. Odyssey, except for its Greece. But it still has that feel... you kind of feel like you're fighting with a Spartan.. Alexious the main character Is a Gladiator, Warrior type. if it's cheap, it's worth a play thur....
Yeah I would love to see some like Like Rockstar or Warhorse studio the team that made Kingdom come do a game like that.
This was a great Day One game for Xbox. The Gamestop in my small mountain town was giving a copy away woth purchase of a console for awhile
literally have been waiting to watch you play this! i love the story and i've played through it multiple times. good boss variety
this game has top 3 most satisfying combat ive ever played cant believe it came out a decade ago
This game has the longest hrs played in my steam library with 338 hrs. I replayed the story part so many times, did alot of the round modes! This game was ahead of it's time, still have this on my desktop!
The scariest enemy to face was obviously comic book guy wielding an axe and wearing nought but nipple tassels for armour
This game and Sunset Overdrive were the reasons why I wanted an Xbox
These and titanfall were the first games I played on the one
Sunset overdrive was criminally underrated
Zanny not to long ago did a video on this I see everyone is now remembering one of the best Rome games
I saw that you uploaded a video earlier and saved it to watch now at night, I knew I was not getting crazy 😂
I played this game for the first time last month I was surprised how good the voice acting was
I definitely remember playing this game. It was like 3 years after its release but I still really enjoyed the story mission as well as the arena mode
This game was one of the reasons why I got an xbox one around the time they came out. I remember loving the setting and the combat/executions were incredibly entertaining. I found out this game was on steam just a couple of weeks ago so I recently played through it again and I have to say I still had a blast up until the end when the combat became very repetitive and felt very tedious at times. It felt like the game relied a little too heavily on the guard break mechanic alone with some enemies that felt like sponges (mostly referencing the tall guys with the skull masks idk what they are called) But still overall I wish they would take a chance and make a better developed sequel to this game.
I have very fond memories of this game simply because it was a day 1 Xbox one release so in my mind it was like "This is the next generation of video games holy shit"
dude you a real one for using the BULLETSTORM theme song for your background music! great video btw!
I remember this game, I played it over the summer! Loved it!
It shouldn't matter but it makes me happy to see the comments agree with me about this game.
People clowned on it because it was a generic launch game but it was "Good" like no major issues, gameplay that rivals today's AAA games and graphics better than most games these days.
It was fun and multiplayer was sick.
This game was so so good I played it years ago, this video might just make me play it again (I hope it does)
Does it?
A lot of people didn't like this game claimed it was too easy but I really wished they'd kept going with this one
Dude thank u so much I’ve been tryin to remember the name of this game for so long
One of my favorites to this day and I remember seeing in one of the cutscenes two identical towers getting hit (seriously)
This is such a coincidence. This was the first game I ever bought from my Xbox 1 and I just reinstalled it like a week before you put this video out. The graphics still stand up, the story's great!!! thank! I love your content, dude.!!!
iirc there was an Xbox One bundle that came with this game. It's crazy how good this looks since it's a 10y old game, it looks better than some newer releases.
I couldn’t put this game down when it came out, it was so fun glad it gets some reconsideration. Deserves more to be honest
I played this game so much, loved it, and decided to get the Imperial Eagle logo that the game used as a tattoo. I freaking love this game
Hell yes I remember! I couldn't get enough of this game!
This looks better than some of the most recent triple A releases. We truly are headed to another dark age of gaming.
Like give me an example?
@@sgtroach1510Are you trolling?
@@Signi9 how is asking for an example trolling?
@@sgtroach1510 I can't think in a specific game now, but some releases this years and pass years promised too much and did nothing
@@sgtroach1510i don't think is a dark age, but there's a lot of triple AAA games made by gigantic corporations that are terrible
I actually played this game a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it, best rhythm game I ever played
Lucky for me, I saw the initial posting. I thought this was going to a continuation of that, but, oh well, I'll watch it again.
So much life has happened to me since I sat in my friends dorm room watching him play this.
Ryse is definitely a classic wish we get a sequel one day
Also something really cool the color coordinated finishers was meant to help people learn the buttons on the controller for people just getting there first console which is another reason ryse came with most Xbox's at launch
Man I loved this game, i love the roman history and this game was great for me. Combat was so-so but fun in multiplayer. Story was very solid.
no way you used the bulletstorm main menu song, bro made me unlock my nostalgic memories
i really liked this game a lot, the fight system and the story are very cool
I remember this game was supposed to be a Game Changer for Xbox One. Tbh I remember being excited about it then forgot about it because I literally think Dead Rising 3 released that same year and I was playing that😂😂
I remember wanting to play this game bad when it first came out but I bought a pS4. But now I have a steam deck and just recently got this game and it’s pretty dope
me and my friend used to spend hours in the gladiator mode. this brings back memories
I enjoyed this game thoroughly. It truly had that "Shadoe of Rome" Vibe. Love it.
Such an amazing game. One of the first games I ever played.
My most favourite thing about this game was when Marius said "I am Ryse: Son of Rome" and Rysed all over Nero's and his sons faces
17:14
Bro went fully Guinea here 17:49 🤣
Happy that i got to watch the better unedited edited one haha
I just watched this video before I fell asleep 5 hours ago... if not for the intro I would have thought I had a premonition about this
I worked on this game and I still haven't played it, thanks Kevduit for doing it for me!
Ok, using the fact the Xbox buttons are multicolored to represent which buttons you need to press is a really fun idea lol.
this gam was and still is super underrated. i think i played it like three times and it doesnt get boring
I still play the Galdiator mode of this game from time to time, it has a way of staying fun even after so long
Beat this game when it released still blows my mind there hasnt been a 2nd one or a game near these graphics 10yrs later😢
Love your videos and wish you the best of luck for the future 🖖👽🛸
I’ve never been one for sword and shield wielding games, but this one actually captivated me with its story, and I’ve never even played it. That’s how you can tell it’s a good game! Lol
This game was such a masterpiece
Glad I’m not the only one who does the
“EERRUPP!” When in danger, I do it when I’m using the hydrolic press at work because our push rods are crap and sometimes violently shoot across the shop.
Omg it's a full playthrough of rise sone of Rome again!
Fully unedited ofc
This was one of my favorite games ever I got it with my Xbox one and play it all the way through in about 2 sittings I didn’t want to put it down
Thanks Kev. That was a good reminiscence
I always used to watch videos on the game cause I had ps4 and couldn’t get it but it’s way ahead of its time
It was so ridiculously grindy when I had played it, but the executions and the more staged up “formation” sections with your troops were awesome.
I still play throuhh it yearly. One of my favorite games ever.
The co-op mode for Ryse was cool. Fighting as gladiators with a friend against barbarians at the colosseum was fun. I tried playing a while back but the servers were empty. U cant find ppl playing if your lucky but even if u do they may inactive
Nobody lives for ever. Especially you. Got me rollin 😂😂😂
That ‘from the windows to the wall ‘ had me in tears
Literally after just beating this and seeing this in my feed lol. Very good game
This game brings me back, makes me remember all the Xbox games that came out at the time Sunset Overdrive, Ryse, Dead Rising 3.. Unfortunately gameplay of this game is so barebones that I don't know why they thought this was acceptable.
Omg someone actually talking about Ryse thank you so much
Played this game recently and wow do the graphics look fantastic.
Duuuude I got my cat Twitch when I was playing this. I'll always have fond memories of this game.
I caught the previous, bloody version and it was very good
"The Senate will listen to you"

First Secession of the Plebs
In 495 BC, the plebeian populace of Rome began to raise significant concerns about debt, including questioning the necessity of beatings and imprisonment of debtors by money-lenders. Roman historian Livy records an account of a former military official throwing himself into the forum in an extremely dishevelled state, telling the people of his troubles. He explained that during the war against the Sabines his estate was torched by the enemy and his possessions stolen. Upon returning home, he was forced to take a loan to afford paying a tax that had been imposed on him, driving him deeply into debt due to usury. This resulted in him being forced to give up family properties including his grandfather and father's farms. When this was still insufficient, he was taken by his creditors to a prison, whipped, and threatened with death. The people at the forum were angered and the story quickly spread, drawing a large crowd into an uproar.
After much anticipation about consul or senate action to address popular debt concerns, consul Appius worsened the situation by passing unpopular decrees reinforcing the imprisonment of debtors by creditors. This outrage further compounded by continued senate inaction resulted in the plebeians seceding to the Mons Sacer (the Sacred Mountain), over three miles from the city, on the advice of Lucius Sicinius Vellutus. The plebeians then established basic defences in the area, waiting for senate action.
After the secession, the senate finally took action to address the issue. Negotiating with three envoys from the plebeians, the senate came to a resolution. The patricians freed some of the plebs from their debts and conceded some of their power by creating the office of the Tribune of the Plebs. This office was the first government position to be held by the plebs, since at this time the office of consul was held by patricians solely. Plebeian Tribunes were made personally sacrosanct during their period in office, meaning that any person who harmed them was subject to punishment by death.
They weren't kidding when it said Nero would die by his own sword, lol
I never really got a chance to play it but it always looked fun
I played this for the first time last week, loved it
This brought back memories of when I was in school and my friends and I used to get so hyped for the free games of the month that we would play, that’s how I got this game on my 360… good times🙂
This game would blow up an Xbox 360
Why did I just watch this video twice when it got listed as I was 10 seconds away from the finish the first time? I don’t know why not
To this day my buddies and I will still quote the "ROME IS CIVILIZATION! ROME IS ORDER! ROME IS POWER! AND OUT HERE WE ARE ROME!" scene
Game still looks incredible and is super addicting for a good play through once a year . Wish they made a sequel or DLC.
Saw it in game pass one day and turned out to be one of my favourite games

Such iconic Roman military tactics 😮
Good game, never played on release but been playing it on steamdeck, good stuff
