I had read about this movie in a lesson in my Hindi book with same name which was written by one of the crew member of same movie.

Scorsese is one of my favourite filmmakers, definitely the greatest living filmmaker right now. To hear his inspiration was Satyajit Ray makes me proud as an Indian, and a film lover.

@@Phnx282 as a bengali, I have to admit that people don't usually bring up ray and ghatak and bose in the same conversation. but at the same time, they also acknowledge their films to be very foresight med, often to the same magnitude. but then again, that's just from my limited experience. and I do agree on you about the severe under appreciation of ghatak, sen and bose, while still feeling ray to be of the same caliber.
Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen and Ritwik Ghatak , all three have given rise to the new form and art in cinema well before Hollywood. Their contribution is immeasurable.

@@Phnx282 Agreed totally. Bose and Ghatak were far superior to Ray. Also we missed out mentioning Mrinal Sen and his master class works depicting the life of impoverished and the struggling class whom most of the other directors always neglected till date.

I don't mean any disrespect to him. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 He is our pride and forms the great trio of Indian cinema along with Ghatak and Ray. I would like to place him in ranks with Buddhadeb Dashgupta or Purnendu Patri for that matter. They seem at par to me. Actually, Ghatak is in a totally different league altogether. All eight of his films are equally masterpieces and one is no less captivating than the other. One may endlessly wonder while watching his films, that how exceptional and varied they are in structure, elements, form and treatment of plot, albeit remaining connected with the same repeating theme of the pain of Bengal partition that tormented the film maker throughout his short luminous lifespan. I fall in love afresh everytime I watch those films and they never get old, albeit being so limited in number ( just eight 😥). That shows the true mastery of a gem of a film maker - one that doesn't need to impress with a good many number of films like Ray, but leaves his audience bedazzled with whatever limited crop he has produced. Tbh, Ray's later works in color are plain bogus, with perhaps the only exception of Agontuk. He should've stopped after Goopi Bagha Trilogy, I feel. At least Sen more or less kept up the standard of his works till Aamar Bhubon (although in no way comparable to Bhubon Som).

I just watched The Stranger by Satyajit Ray, and it is one of the best films I’ve seen this year. Watched some of the Apu Trilogy years ago, but need to watch properly. Anyway though Mr Ray was an Indian, his films resonate with Bangladeshi Bengalis too :)

He was a director who brought stories in the form of films, stories which influenced the actual 'India' his films like Mahanagar, Panther Panchali, Arnayer Din ratri, The Strangers the stories of these films are very artistic in nature.
Watch World Cinema rather than Mainstream and Commercial films like bollywood and hollywood. Explore more indian cinema, there's a lot of amazing regional films from Gujrat, Maharashtra, Kerala, Chennai, Hydrebad, West bengal. I have met many Foregin filmmakers who are also inspired by ray's work and I feel so proud, but at the same time I feel sad because many Indians don't know about films like these.

I first saw Satyajit Ray’s films at a festival of his work. I now have some restoration films that I see on my 50” tv screen.
What I miss is the big screen to get full stunning effect of the b&w shadows and suspense of a face filling the entire theatre. Folks are losing why Ray’s film were important.
A Bengali, but feels even better as an Indian. Ray is a different story altogether. Incredible versatile, perfectionist, story teller. Meaning of true film-making, no Indian director comes even close as of yet.

Pather Panchali Was an interesting movie done by Satyajit Ray but when it comes to film analysis we also need to understand the story was from famous Bengali writer Bibhutibhushan bandhopadhyay,the music ( hindustani classical ) sitar late great Ravi Shankar and Sarod Pandit Ali Akbar Khan. Director Mr ray have done good research before making the movie. Since he was from advertising background and wrote the script very well. We also respect the cinematographer who rightly presented the western industrialisation on indian agricultural soil in the form of locomotive railway when the Apu and Durga running and watching it from the kash phool bushes.thanks

But such a shame that Indians aren't even watching ray , ghatak or sen s cinemas. And which is even more shocking is that after the death of Rituporno ghosh (another great bengali director) Bengali cinemas situation turned so bad.
