All credit to Martin Scorsese for campaigning so hard so Satyajit Ray could get this Oscar. He rallied his close buddies Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and others, which set the ball rolling in Mr. Ray's favor. He continues to spread the word about Mr. Ray's films. A few years ago, Scorsese called director Wes Anderson over to his place to watch "Pather Panchali". This inspired Anderson so much that he went to India, returned and penned the screenplay for "Darjeeling Limited", which eventually became a successful film starring Owen Wilson and Adrian Brody. Anderson created a unique soundtrack for "Darjeeling Limited" made up of music from Satyajit Ray's films and a couple of Merchant-Ivory films.

30 years ago today. After her death in 1993, hardly to see any movie stars that were able to match her elegance and class. A truly one of the most iconic stars of all time.
Here is an example that the honorary award comes out to be more important and prominent than the main category awards. Because at the end of the day, it matters who is receiving the award more than the award itself. Kudos to one of the giants of modern cinema.......................
For you might not be modern, for me his first film is good enough to teach the primitive definition of "modernism". Its interpretation of life, death, joy and lastly forgiveness is something which is almost untouchable with the exception of few Iranian film-makers. And if anyone wants his depiction of modernity in city life, movies like "Aranyer Din Ratri" attends such heights about our morality, doubts and deep expressions of sexuality, something Indian Cinema does not have a replace till now.
Akira kurusawa used to be a big fan of Satyajit Sir. He always used to say Satyajit way of direction was in line with great directors of France and post war directors of Italy and Ray also paved the way for new Indian directors such as Ritwik Ghosh, Mani Kaul etc.
There’s something about my Calcutta , something special about Bengalis . Satyajit Ray , Tagore , Subhash Chandra Bose , Vivekananda , Kishore Kumar , Suchitra Sen, Jagadish Chandra Bose , Amartya Sen , P.C Sarkar , Jhumpa Lahiri , Sourav Ganguly ,Kazi Nazrul Islam , Sushmita Sen and so many more Bengalis have made India proud internationally , still , all people care to know about us is that we love mach , misti & gossip.

According to sham benegal hindi film director '' The day he was ready to gave me an interview i said to myself hurrey i made it'' shows that for a director like sham benegal what it means to get an interview of mr Ray .The true oscar and the only one for us why i am saying so because other achiever like bhanu attaiya,A.r raheman,Gulzar they also got it but without the help of any hollywood film got it by his own that's too life time achievement where you will be jurdge not by one film but by your entire carrier shows how great he was.
I cried while watching this. I ask God to take my life away and bring him back to life! Manik Da, as an aspiring film maker, I promise, I will never let your legacy die away!
Once upon a time, people and ceremonies were so simple yet very elegant. Once upon a time, a great beauty Audrey Hepburn presented an Honorary Oscar to another legend Satyajit Ray. Thanks for this clip.
Academy has failed to recognize the true masters of Cinema time and again. Ray, Chaplin, Kurosawa, Hitchcock, Kubrick are few examples who never own best director's award. Not that it's absolutely necessary to appreciate them. As they are the ones who will be studied by cinephiles all over the world till Cinema's death.
I have seen only his APU TRIOLOGY . These movies were released in 1955-1959. Its not a movie with 5 songs or fight scenes like today what we see. The people living on those day and watching these movies in theatre were so damn lucky. Even now it can be runned in theatre. Its a wonderful movie i have ever seen in indian cinema.

Satyajith Ray
-A Legend
Satyajit Roy was a true gem and was ahead of time in Bollywood. His films are still very relevant to society. Because of his style and subject.... ❤️ ❤️
It's sad that both Ray and Hepburn died shortly after this....😞 but their work will be cherished forever
Like Shakespeare, Dickens , Ray's works are for forever... u see them and they grow all over ur mind and soul and the characters just leave nameless mist ridden indelible memories ...
the Academy did well to honour him ... proud moment for itself and Ray...
In a year therafter, neither Ray nor Hepburn would be alive.
আমি বাঙালি হিসেবে গর্বিত।।।।।।।।।
I didn't understand anything but still I liked coz I know you praised Satyajeet sir in bangla language words 🙏
@@pristiq. He is saying that he is proud to be a bengali.

30 years ago today. After her death in 1993, hardly to see any movie stars that were able to match her elegance and class. A truly one of the most iconic stars of all time.
who the bloody hell even dislikes this?
Kaushik Shettigar Pakistani hoga koi
may be some jealous people from Pakistan
Few stupid Bollywood & Hollywood people as well.
those who like movie like rowdy rathore kick and all
Sala kutta bloody full
Here is an example that the honorary award comes out to be more important and prominent than the main category awards. Because at the end of the day, it matters who is receiving the award more than the award itself. Kudos to one of the giants of modern cinema.......................
Wouldn't really classify him as "modern cinema"
For you might not be modern, for me his first film is good enough to teach the primitive definition of "modernism". Its interpretation of life, death, joy and lastly forgiveness is something which is almost untouchable with the exception of few Iranian film-makers. And if anyone wants his depiction of modernity in city life, movies like "Aranyer Din Ratri" attends such heights about our morality, doubts and deep expressions of sexuality, something Indian Cinema does not have a replace till now.
Well said. It is one of those rare occasions where the award itself is honored because it's given to legendary people like 'Satyajit Ray'
What a rare gem he was to ever exist in the world of film-makers. Satyajit Ray 🇮🇳
মহারাজা তোমারে সেলাম।♥️
After great Rabindra Nath Tagore on that time another great personality.

Mr Satyajit Roy was a greatest director of Indian cinema ever i really Proud to see him to get Oscar award🇮🇳❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏
Akira kurusawa used to be a big fan of Satyajit Sir. He always used to say Satyajit way of direction was in line with great directors of France and post war directors of Italy and Ray also paved the way for new Indian directors such as Ritwik Ghosh, Mani Kaul etc.
Premier League Freak
For your kind information, it’s Ritwik Ghatak not Ghosh
There’s something about my Calcutta , something special about Bengalis .
Satyajit Ray , Tagore , Subhash Chandra Bose , Vivekananda , Kishore Kumar , Suchitra Sen, Jagadish Chandra Bose , Amartya Sen , P.C Sarkar , Jhumpa Lahiri , Sourav Ganguly ,Kazi Nazrul Islam , Sushmita Sen and so many more Bengalis have made India proud internationally , still , all people care to know about us is that we love mach , misti & gossip.
Ashoke Sen,prannoy Roy,Alka yagnik, Satyendra nath Bose, Abhijit Banerjee etc.

Many eons ago when I was in my half pants I saw this on Doordarshan, I cried, I felt so proud at that moment. I have watched all his work. Found inspiration, learned a lot, was entertained and also made me think. RIP my legend. Thanks for visiting us here on earth and giving us so much, influencing us and changing the course of Bengali, Indian and world cinema. We miss you and likes of you.
SATYAJIT RAY - THE LEGEND (GEM OF INDIAN FILM INDUSTRY )....
I mean at that age, with all the little notion he had left, Mr. Ray spoke with such brilliance, it's soothing to experience that
I just searched about the Lady, Audrey Hepburn, and it's sad that she too passed away just the next year 🙏

I cried while watching this. I ask God to take my life away and bring him back to life! Manik Da, as an aspiring film maker, I promise, I will never let your legacy die away!
An icon introducing a master.
Once upon a time, people and ceremonies were so simple yet very elegant. Once upon a time, a great beauty Audrey Hepburn presented an Honorary Oscar to another legend Satyajit Ray. Thanks for this clip.
satyajit roy
pride of bengal
pride of whole india
Academy has failed to recognize the true masters of Cinema time and again. Ray, Chaplin, Kurosawa, Hitchcock, Kubrick are few examples who never own best director's award. Not that it's absolutely necessary to appreciate them. As they are the ones who will be studied by cinephiles all over the world till Cinema's death.
Lets not forget great Andrei Tarkovsky too
Very true
True.
How can you forget Ritwik Ghatak
Tarakovsky ,Bergman , Fellini ????
Satyajit Ray is a legend
He is proud of India 🇮🇳
And these Bollywood buffoons overlooked a genius like him and kept giving awards to the likes of Raj Kapoor !
Heeeyyyyy Raj Kapoor is good. C'mon.
Pranjal Ray fuck off

Many get honored with an award. But there are very, very few who bring honor to an award. Satyajit Ray. Salute.
Me Ray was awensome RIP
Thank you for making all Indians and bengalis proud.... Jaha bhi ho khush raho sir ❤️
Simply Genius. He was not only movie director, a writer and painter as well.
Audrey Hepburn presenting the award is enough for us to know such a legendary filmmaker he is

Nikhil Sharma namaskar, gyani purush
Real genius! Those who have not seen his films are really unfortunate or the don't know what is real cinema!
A legend presenting an award to a legend!
Alas, we lost her the very next year!
King of Personality legendary Satyajit Ray😍
Proud to be a bengali....
সত্যজিৎ রায় দি লেজেন্দ
I have seen only his APU TRIOLOGY . These movies were released in 1955-1959. Its not a movie with 5 songs or fight scenes like today what we see. The people living on those day and watching these movies in theatre were so damn lucky. Even now it can be runned in theatre. Its a wonderful movie i have ever seen in indian cinema.
Just googled Audrey Hepburn. She was a beautiful lady. Sad to see that she died one year after this 1992 oscars.
His films spoke directly to the heart.
The man who made us proud to be a bengali❤️🇧🇩
