    I feel like my comments about freelance were harsh in retrospect. I'm not totally against freelance, but I just had poor past experiences in the past because I was working in niches I didn't care about at all. I still stand firm that I don't want it to be my primary path though.

    "i don't care about their business, not to be rude"
    Yupp... I definitely agree with you on that. When I'm tasked with designing and coding for others, i don't feel energized or that interested but when I'm designing and coding for myself, I'm always happy and energized and i always want to keep going 😅

    Hey Jansley thanks for sharing! Webdesign, graphic design, and development is all about servicing business and people. UX is very people oriented specially team work and collaborating. If you don't want to deal with all that, definitely forge your own path by building your own product, app/saas, or any ideas. Much luck.. I look forward to keeping up with your journey.

    How can you become a webflow developer yet not design for clients that meet their business needs?? If you are not caring abotu designing for people (users, businesses) this is not going to lead to a successful outcome. You will be just an artist designing your own work and selling it to people that may or may not find it useful. Is this what you are trying to accomplish?

  • @sngjess

    Wishing you all the best! I think it's great you're showing the fluctuations and struggles as you're going through it, and why it's okay to pivot and re-pivot along the way, as opposed to the many curated success stories on UA-cam. It's good to remind ourselves that reality isn't as coherent as we'd like it to be at all, and that's alright.
    Looking forward to seeing you on this solo-preneurship journey!

    I can relate on many levels as a fellow UX designer also at a crossroads (and coincidentally, also focusing on Webflow now). I'm really looking forward to see where the new journey takes you!
    Also...huge props to you - it takes a lot of courage to document when you're "in" the journey as opposed to after you've already "made" it. Very few people (myself included) are brave enough to admit they don't know what they're doing, but ironically, this is often the most relatable and helpful type of content. Your videos are a breath of fresh air - keep it up!

    i just chanced upon your channel and am subscribing!! it's crazy how i feel exactly in the same boat as you. I feel pretty unsatisfied working in my product design job but as I am updating my portfolio - it doesn't feel right either. I've always wanted to explore other means of working non 9-5 and making a living that way/not being tied to a place or a company. really excited to see your journey unfold and what happens!

    My passion has always been to work in the music industry. I never pursued my dream of having a band when I was young so I chose to be a designer as second best. I too enjoy UX but I always try to do personal projects music-adjacent (VR, music apps, etc) I agree with you that working for oneself is the main goal. Thanks for your honesty here and best of luck.

    As a freelancer who has changed paths many times, I resonate with your story so much!! I'm glad you're listening to your intuition despite what might seem "logical" and "safe." There is no such thing as safety today anyway, is there? (Cough cough, tech layoffs...) I also totally resonate with what you're saying about not wanting to design for other people. I had to cull my copywriting clients for the same reason to only include companies I REALLY REALLY want to work with haha. Also love Dan Koe!! Excited to see where you go next 😊

    • @jansleyreal
      @jansleyreal  5 місяців тому +1

      Yeah that's very true, no such thing as actual safety! So cool that you like Dan Koe too, he's definitely by biggest inspiration for this whole journey. Almost joined his Kortex program but decided against it.

    I am basically on the same boat still trying to figure out what job to pursue. I like being creative but i dont like being forced to design in a certain way just to make a client happy. The main reason why its frustrating is due to those annoying clients who make you change things so much that its actually poorly designed. 😂

  • @swopekat
    @swopekat 2 місяці тому +1

    I understand what you're saying, good luck with everything. I had been on my own parallel journey of trying to get into UX Writing. I did a bootcamp too and worked on two projects. The first one was a terrible company and very stressful, so I thought that it was just the company that wasn't a good fit. The second was a nice company, and I liked the people on my team, but I quickly realized how boring the maintenance phase of the job could be. I just couldn't bring myself to care about whether the text on a button worked well enough or should be slightly altered. It sucks because it pays a lot more than my current field, but my job has to have some meaning.

    • @jansleyreal
      @jansleyreal  2 місяці тому

      I agree, doesn’t matter if the job pays well, if it doesn’t feel fulfilling at least in some way, might be better to move on. Good luck to you!

  • @MrReuben779

    Great take! Kep the content game strong and keep leveling up. Another benefit I really see with youtube and the money you can make from it is the location independence you get which can be very difficult to get with an employed job (even if remote). No boss can tell you where you need to be and you don't need to work specific hours. If you wanted to base yourself for example in low cost of living countries such as Colombia / thailand this is very easy as well as your money can go much further.

    • @jansleyreal
      @jansleyreal  5 місяців тому

      Funny you mention that, the thought crossed my mind on if I should move to another country. It's a scary proposition to think about, just because it's so different to me 😅

    I can totally relate to this. I love dance and painting. However I found this boom of people who suddenly even with mediocre to no skills started creating bootcamps and workshops, replicating whatever was already available on the web/YT and making money out of it. I was compelled to become a teacher myself therefore, and thought "wow how cool would it be to monetize my skills", skills that I'm actually passionate about and have knowledge in. Somewhere down the road I realised, its not for me, just doesn't feel right. The entire teaching thing made me more distant from the core tasks which I loved doing - dance and painting. I was so stressed of how to teach people, how to get students, how to market etc etc. I then realised that I am more energised when I am my own product. Meaning I enjoy dancing more than I enjoy teaching dance. I enjoy painting more than I enjoy teaching painting. This was the exact revelation for me. So now, say, I can get monetised for being a back up dancer. I can get monetised for a commissioned art work. Although they look like jobs, they aren't because I am doing it not on permanent basis but as a freelancer. The differentiating factor here is me. I am the product you get. I find peace this way. So good luck, I am sure you will be able to curate your own unique path.

    • @jansleyreal
      @jansleyreal  3 місяці тому

      That's very interesting that teaching made you feel distant from your enjoyment of the skill. But it makes sense, it adds a lot more moving parts than just being good at the skill and enjoying it. I love that you found a path that works for you! There's a lot more options than people realize, and I include myself in that bunch.

    I revelation I had a little while ago was that trying to monetise my hobby that I loved was making me unhappy and unmotivated. Trying to make that hobby my primary job made me kinda hate it. Maybe there’s a healthy balance between designing for clients and making things you like?

    Well arent a bunch of designers butthurt here? LOL! So Jansley goes on his exploratory journey and made this honest video and people is just mad... Jansley is ACTUALLY in the right path for himself. He has the one skill many creative people lack... he is taking RISK! The one reason successful people make it is because they take risk!
    He figured early that UX/UI is overrated and wack. Honestly, UX and UI is cake, you ain't the artist nor the developer... you are just the chick in the middle that we can all live without.
    You all mad that he has the cojones to be realistic, pragmatic and brave enough to not follow the pack like most of you. He is Star Trek head first where no of you ventured before.

      This was not meant to be negative. I am just pointing out something. I appreciate the content that Jansley is producing and I am just saying that I appreciate the exploration. What I am saying is that he has his own structure of doing things, and I admire his exploration. I just seem to be gathering a pattern here of not sticking to a niche , and then giving an opinion on an industry that he hasnt worked inn yet and making some faulty assumptions. I do admire his energy and openess about the difficulty in braking into tech industries nonetheless.
      Thats the beaty of having an OPINION in a public space. If you dont enjoy the comments, simple disable the comment section. Opinions are not regulated by your "thats just mean" way of thinking and the comment section is not limited to compliments :)
