    Im part of the Avocademy course as well and I am way more behind than you were due to the fact that I have a full time job and it is hard to balance the course. One of the problem I had is that different mentors give different feedback to Activities and it gets confusing at times. I love how the mentors are thoughtful and caring about the success of their students. I am still dedicated to learning a new skill to one day get a different job than my current role as of now. I wish you the best of luck trying to get a job in the field

    • @jansleyreal

      Yep, I noticed sometimes I would get varied feedback as well. It's probably difficult to make that consistent though. Good luck to you, keep working at it, no matter how behind you are! Its not a race :)

      @@jansleyreal The good thing is that the mentors are using Loom videos as part of their feedback to students which is a really big plus because they are taking the time to show you what needs to be fixed instead of using comments on Figma.

      I experienced this is as well, I was pretty behind myself. I didn't finish until a couple days ago on the 23rd. Your second sentence hits the nail on the head, all through the research process I had mentors providing different insight which made feel as though I was doing something wrong.

    Career Jumpstart has been good to me so far! Lots of work but it seems do-able so far with the skills you’re taught in foundation. I also frequently ask previous mentors from foundations for help and resources. They are quick to provide responses and often offer to setup video chats for further help or even just to vent!

    • @jansleyreal

      I decided to do it. It's a tremendous amount of work, like unlike anything I've experienced while juggling a FT job. How far along are you?

      @@jansleyreal I don’t comment often! Wasn’t aware I’d received a response 😬 I’m currently working through my second project in career jumpstart. It’s been manageable so far but I’m a stay at home dad with a 2 year old and a 2 WEEK old. Different workload than a FT job. Individual Responsibilities within the team for each project have been reasonable. Some level of self learning and further creativity are guaranteed. Mentor help is still great and feedback is quick and more precise here.

    I graduated recently & really didn’t feel I got much out of it. I wish I had just followed the instructions on UX websites that Avocademy was gonna have me read anyway, paid for an advanced Figma class & just did personal projects & free work until I got a few under my belt.
    And I’m saying that as someone who found most of the assignments incredibly easy & I passed all except 4 of them on the first submission. I also felt like the whole “we encourage you to defend your design decisions” thing was to lull you into a false sense of security because I definitely seemed to be treated coldly when I did that & one of the people I did their Usability testing interview with said basically the same thing, she had to tell them to stop giving her “this is what I think looks good personally” feedback mixed in with the “this is needed change/industry standard”. Also the language to apply to Career Jumpstart is insinuating that if they didn’t like the way you defended design decisions or if you voiced any complaint within the program they got salty about they could literally just refuse you for CJ on that basis. I’m not sure if I’ll write a review but I definitively won’t recommend this program. I’m getting pretty positive feedback from mentors on ADP, even on elements I was told to change by mentors in Avocademy so I’m not even going to apply to CJ.

      Yeah it can be a bit confusing haha. Yes, they have 2 programs
      1) Foundations: the initial program to learn end-to-end UX process, working on 1 cumulative project that will end up in your portfolio
      2) Career Jumpstart: the 2nd program where you work on 2 REAL client projects that you can add to your portfolio, as well as job search support
      Both of them together are around $7,000-$7,500 USD

    • @jansleyreal
      @jansleyreal  Рік тому +3

      Your nervousness is totally relatable. At the end of the day you have to ask yourself "do I realistically have the willpower to teach myself, and do I know WHAT I need to teach myself?" Sometimes it takes a little skin in the game (ie money) to fuel that drive to learn at a quick pace. I know for me, sure I could do it on my own, but I didn't know what kinds of information I needed to learn, and I certainly would not have pushed myself as quickly as the program does. Hope this helps!

      You have access to the content forever which is cool, but not to mentors I don't think. I have seen a couple updates since starting the program, so they seem to update it as needed. The foundational UX principles don't change much, but things like resume and portfolio layouts will change occasionally
