In this video I go through how much money I make as a UX designer. I have worked as a UX designer for the last 8 years.
Getting your first job in a new field can feel impossible but it's pretty easy to stand out if you play your cards right.
Love the content man! Really inspiring, I got my first UX job few weeks ago 😃
Good stuff Jake, thanks for sharing. So happy to hear your curve had a steady growth.
I'm also in tech, started off @ 51k, currently at 255k within 7 years (with OE at one point it peaked at 340). Not in UX myself, but wanted to echo your sentiment that these numbers are definitely achievable for anyone looking to switch into the field.
Nice, been thinking about going into UX, this is awsome for first timers.
Great info in this video! You should do more UX design career informative videos!
Never watched any of your videos and just happened to stumble across this one and I am very glad I did!
I appreciate it!
Love the content. I think 2023 is a great year to provide this content. I really want to help people getting into development as well. Thanks for posting!
I appreciate it Cody Codes 🙏🏻
Ayo!! I watched your videos yesterday too!! You gotta make more.
@@franko8572 that’s amazing! Thank you. I have another one I’m editing now that I’m really psyched about.
@@cody_codes_youtube Woohoo! I’ll be there, bruv!
Stumbled upon your video about productivity after having kids. Then found this!thanks for these sharings!
I’d love to know more about UX skill set that you picked up along the way and what are some key ones. Cheers!
Solid information, it would be nice to show us some tool you used to learn UX design!
Jake I love your no-bs approach to UX and really appreciate the pay transparency. Do you mentor? Or would you consider joining ADP List as a mentor? As a UX intern you seem like someone whose brain I’d love to pick!
Love this!
UX design looks very interesting. It looks like a cross-over between programming and web design/graphic design.
I'm a Staff Data Engineer, 10yrs now.
Similar story - started at $43k in Louisiana, then $55k, $65k, $75k, $82k - then pandemic - I applied for remote jobs - went to $100k, $140k, $183k.
I thought these salaries were nuts beyond $100k...but now with the economy and inflation...it's hard to know what the value of $100k is anymore.
I mean...even 10yrs ago in 2013 (doesn't feel like that long ago!) $100,000 then would be worth $131,000 today. 20yrs ago right after high school in 2003, $100,000 then would be worth $166,000 today.
You felt like it was crazy to ask for $55,000 at your first job right? Maybe that's b/c you grew up hearing that $55,000 salary was a lot of money - but maybe you were hearing that in 1993 as a kid? Well 1993 (30yrs ago), $55,000 would be worth $116k today.
Crazy right? ...but also sad :(
Cool how you build this career up without a degree. Thanks for sharing.
Dang....never been able to do this but
FIRST!!!!
Haha well done sir!
Hello Jake, would you recommend bootcamps for new starters?
What would you recommend to someone who wants to get started? And how long do you think it’ll take from start to first job?
good job bro
Hey Jake, wheres the best place to learn UX design?
I've been in the tech industry for 30 years with a BS degree and I make $84k with $96k in school loans. I'm considering going back to get my Masters to try to switch careers and make more money. I will ever get to retire and just work to my death. I don't know how people are making 6 figures with no school debt. I have been trying very hard for years so I don't know where I went wrong. I feel stuck.
So, if i’m currently a teacher and I wanted to get into UX design but still support our education system, is there a way to do that?
You can further your education on Udemy, many teachers have two jobs, but it all depends on your schedule, if you teach over zoom/canvas, your intended pacing, etc.
What monitor are you using?
It's an LG curved monitor. Not sure which one. I got it from the company I work for.
Figma, Axure or Adobe XD...which one is most used in the field?
Figma
Can I be mentored by you Sir?
How can I join in this company? Please help me
Do you think its best to change jobs every 2 years?
That's probably the best way to get pay increases.
Do you have to have an eye for design or can you get better with practice? I can't even doodle
I'm terrible at drawing. UX/UI design is a different thing. You need an eye for website aesthetic, flows and spacing, etc but that can all be learned.
@@JakeFerrinDo you just create mock up design in like canva or similar tools?
I'm a web dev but we never had ux design role at my company so I was wondering. I always thought ux designers would be doing front end design work.
@@RealShaktimaan yeah we make the designs in a tool called Figma then hand them off to developers to build it.
Hey man, I hope you’re okay. You look a bit different than normal. I hope you’ve been taking care of your health, getting enough to eat and sleep. 🙏🏾🙏🏾
It could be that I got a new camera. That or the 5 month old baby that's keeping us up at night. Either way, thanks for your concern haha
@@JakeFerrin Something in my gut was telling me “he probably has a new baby”. You got the papa look! Well congratulations!! You and mama should make sure to give yourselves a break when you can!
Hey can you review my portfolio lol
