  • Simple steps of how to use the Swirl Template for free motion quilting:
    1. To begin practicing use a practice quilt and place the grip on top of the practice quilt.
    2. Place the template inside the grip and line up your FMQ foot with the start position of the template.
    Tip: You can practice moving with the template either with your sewing machine off or you can practice with it on by removing the top and bobbin thread. This will allow you to figure out what speed you want to go with the needle and not have to remove any unwanted stitches.
    3. When you are ready to practice the movements, slowly start moving the grip and template, following the curve of the template with the edge of your FMQ foot. You want the foot to always be touching the edge of the template. Take the movements nice and slow. Also make sure you are moving smoothly, not hurky jerky.
    4. When you reach the stop position…Stop!
    5. You are now ready to flip the template over so it is a mirror image of what it was for the first movement. Now follow the curve of the template down till you reach the bottom of the template at the next stop position.
    Once your practice swirls look great, then you are ready to start sewing on your quilt project!

    the problem is How to you go from one set of swirls to the next without having to interrupt your threads , I was excited about the tools to use but that part was not shown and as a newbie in that use of it would help to use in the continuation of it without the breaks of thread . it would be okay for little projects but a major issue for it to be all over a quilt. Please show us that part. thank you so much.

    Does Dabline have any plans to produce a frame that has a pathway (opening on the side) like their templates have so the ruler foot can slip easily into the frame and templates? Between the thickness of a quilt sandwich plus the thickness of Dabline's quilting frame, that's quite a lift that not all ruler foots can easily clear without having to remove the ruler foot each time.

    • @Dabline
      @Dabline  Рік тому

      For now, we only have the closed frame. Using your gloves, you can easily place your templates in and out.

    I am not understanding how you begin and stop...how do you keep the thread from unraveling. I did not see you back stitch??

    • @Dabline
      @Dabline  Рік тому

      Bo needs to do any back stitching. You continue quilting where you end the last stich.

    can these rulers be used on a longarm machine

    • @Dabline
      @Dabline  2 роки тому

      These templates are 5mm thick. We recommend using templates that are at least 1/4 inch (6mm) thick to prevents the longarm's hopping foot from jumping on top of the ruler, which could damage the quilting machine or even your quilt.

    • @Dabline

    My practice piece did great. The quilt, not. Thread breaking. Stitching not smooth. Seems like the foot gets hung up on seams. If I raise it and try to adjust the stitches don’t stitch. Maybe tomorrow I can make it work

      I'm so sorry you've been struggling! Did you check your machine manual to see if it requires a specific, same brand, ruler foot? If it doesn't, make sure you're using the correct universal foot.
