I love making landscaping quilts! Thank you so much for making this process seem so simple! You came to our quilt guild in Florence, Oregon and you were wonderful! I'm working on a quilt called Bits and Pieces and this will be a lifesaver in terms of how to quilt it. Again, thank you Dr.! You're Adorable! ♥
It's great to see you explain using netting! I used it on my first artquilt and found that both black and white netting were not the look I was going for and had to hunt down the copper orange color that made that quilt look great. Thanks for the tutorial on how to use more than one color netting :)
I went to a workshop last weekend and they added net , sewed gold cord two inches apart from top to bottom, put a single row between them and then put the heat gun on it! Holes appeared and when the flowers of felt were put on it looked amazing!
Great video, Rob, but...ummm...You should cut in the opposite direction so the flat edge is under the fabric, not on top. The flat "bill" is intended to lift the fabric so you don't cut into the bottom fabric.
love your tutorials on appliques but i dont think i like the idea of netting. thats just me. btw, love your happy attitude. i'd be nice if you could slow down cuz theres a lot going on and you go reallllly fast! ;) thanks for the vids. great vibrant colors. i just bought $$ worth of materials to make this, cant wait to start! id love to see you do a sunset through a window applique. i want to make a 6' long by maybe 2' tall "window" of sky, and hang it high on my wall.
I was hesitant to use the netting at first too. But believe me it is a God send! So easy to machine quilt and no open edges. I love it! I use invisible thread and they turn out great. I would never go back to trying to quilt without the netting.
They will be back in stock in April. We apologize for the delay. If you add it to your "Wishlist" you will receive an email as soon as they are back in stock.
So are you saying iron down your applique and then just use the netting and you do not need to secure the applique down as you would do regular applique?
I understand "why" you use netting, but curious about how finished project looks. Can you show close up on that? Not sure if I like the idea of the netting showing on top?
thank you for your great tutor!!!! I do have a favor, can you please send me the name of the artist of the music of your channel.!! love the beat! thanks!
Hey ! Great tutorial ♡ Just wondering How does the netting affect the feel of the quilt ? If you did this over a whole quilt (or a large portion of it) would it still be soft and comfortable against the skin ? Not stiff or rough ??
Love your videos. Does "netting" work with lazer applique? My husband bought me some kits in Alaska, but they're all lazer cut pieces and I'm terrified to try and quilt them! Signed - "Frozen in Fear!"
Hi Alyssa! The laser cutting simply reduce your cutting time. it did not change the nature of the fuse or the fabric. Hope you have fun creating your landscape quilt!
Great question! Rob uses the netting to help secure all those little pieces of appliqué but he also love that it can add so much texture to an appliqué quilt.
It depends on just how small the applique "bits" are. His quilt had bigger applique pieces, so it may not have needed it, but if you make one with pieces as small as a dime, for instance, you could have issues-- especially if it gets hit with the iron repeatedly as you are building your collage.

Never heard of such a thing. Pretty neat though, and makes sense.
I love to watch you and susan also thank you
So as you were cutting the netting I wondered why you were not using duckbill scissors … then suddenly like magic they appeared. 😁
please make more "sharks" available! everywhere online says "out of stock" & I really want that 14mm wheel & creaser in 1 !😘

Hi "guys"! Did you use matte or shiny tulle? I might try using shiny on the water and the clouds and matte on the rest, for an element of movement.

Made two quilts, had a severe head injury, now I'm relearning a lot, do you have a tutorial for aplique?

elisa dalrymple I use blue netting and the effect is awesome! So much easier to quilt and the results are fabulous!

Just wondering
How does the netting affect the feel of the quilt ?

Not stiff or rough ??

What kind of machine foot are you using here please?
So, is the netting purely for aesthetic reasons? If not, specifically, what is it's purpose? Your lost me a little on this one.
me too
Dawn Brigman I think it is to help hold down the edges of the applique?
Dawn Brigman I think it's adding subtle textures to help colours not look so "flat" or "bright" & on the rock look more "rough"
Dawn Brigman around 6:18 he says it's for both.... aesthetic & to hold it all together....
Great question! Rob uses the netting to help secure all those little pieces of appliqué but he also love that it can add so much texture to an appliqué quilt.
I'm not a fan of using the netting. If you have fused your pieces well, it should not effect the ease of quilting.
