    How rude of someone to have their phone turned on during a lecture/class. I have a suggestion as to where you can put that phone! It even disturbed me and I'm only watching the video. Shame on whoever you are!! What an insult to the instructor.

      PEBEO Seta Color Transparent paints. They are sun sensitive (heliographic). I don't embellish with these paints, but rather paint my fabrics and use them in my quilts. They are easy to use! They are available at some craft stores and online (Dharma Trading/Dick Blick/etc...). Check out my UA-cam video on using these paints with color tissue paper!!! even more fun!

    This is wonderful and I loved it so much I purchased your books. I did find that when I did a sketchbook trial of the shapes method, I got a bit of a headache =) so...I decided to do my squares 9". I'll bet that will help me by cutting down on the patterns and give me more room to explore. Being a detail oriented person was a great skill in my career, but not so much for this technique because no matter how hard I tried, I had a hard time not trying to identify each and every shape, which made me a bit nuts, LOL. Really enjoyed this video and I am truly enjoying your books.

    • @lindadechow3703
      @lindadechow3703 4 роки тому

      PS, I actually use an underlayment of a glue sheet-steam a seam, heat n bond lite and wonder under- for the fraying bit, as well as ironing on a bit of glue, although I believe using the tulle in spots will be fun, too. I also give such things a bit of Kraylon spray fixative to keep things in place.

    • @karen.eckmeier
      @karen.eckmeier  4 роки тому +2

      Actually 9" is too big!! Work with the 6.5".....I know from experience!!!The key is NOT to overthink! ...which is hard for most adults. When I teach the class I tell my students not to analyze the shapes....they are mere background, they serve no architectural meaning whatsoever! It's what you do to the shapes, by adding roof tops, windows, etc... that creates the village. I truly understand you frustration. I am a very detail oriented person, so for me to work (or I prefer the term PLAY) requires a lot of "letting go!!!!" But it IS fun, once you get into the creative flow. Let yourself be a child again :)

    • @lindadechow3703
      @lindadechow3703 4 роки тому +1

      Yes, I think I panicked =) Nope you are right, I pulled out a 9" square template and it's really too big; I'll scale down some and just go with it. After doodling with my sketchbook awhile, I started to feel more familiar with the idea.

    • @karen.eckmeier
      @karen.eckmeier  2 роки тому

      Look for sun sensitive or heliographic. The Pebeo brand paints come in transparent and opaque, the transparent ones are sun sensitive.

    Omgosh I have just found your UA-cam channel. Fell in love with your work and I instantly found and bought your book, and will be sorting out fabrics from my collection to use when the book arrives I simply can’t wait to start. Question. Is it essential to add the tulle on top?

    • @karen.eckmeier
      @karen.eckmeier  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you Linda! Yes, the tulle is essential on the Happy Villages collage. The fine netting prevents the tiny pieces of fabric from fraying. With that said, some people like to use a fusible backing on their pieces for their villages, so then the tulle isn't necessary. This is a nice option if you want to frame the village and not quilt it.

Took it with me to a farmers market and could have sold it half a dozen times but didn't. I couldn't decide on a price and anyway I couldn't sell my baby. I'm off to start another today and back to the fabric shop tomorrow. Have you tried covering the picture with voile, thought I'd give it a go. Thank you for your inspirations I think I need a waistcoat, too. Regards Judith Evans. South Wales. UK.

      "Tulle" is a very fine netting that covers all of the raw edge fabric shapes. The quilting is done on top of the tulle, which holds the pieces in place and prevents them from fraying. Tulle comes is a wide variety of colors and it's not expensive. It's fun to play with!
