  • This is an older video showing how to sew curved pieces, and discusses how to align fabrics when cutting for successful curved sewing.
PLEASE NOTE!!! I filmed this video working around my sons toy that I had strapped my camera to. Please know that I am very careful when using a rotary cutter and do not promote unsafe cutting techniques. This was simply the best I could do with the tools that I had at my disposal at the time. PLEASE TAKE CARE AND USE PROPER CUTTING TECHNIQUES WHEN YOU USE YOUR ROTARY CUTTER!
When I have the time I will remake this video to show proper cutting and rotary cutter handling techniques. I apologize for demonstrating unsafe techniques and assumed that others would more easily be able to handle their rotary cutters correctly when not working around a toy firehouse. ;)
Thank you for your concern and kind comments! I'm glad you've found the video helpful!

Your video tutorial was outstanding!! Good Job!! I just took a wonderful class from Sandra Bruce. Lots of cutting and sewing curves and various angles. Your tutorial was priceless to me, thank you. PS: I thought your comments about the camera being on your sons firetruck was too funny. Keep up the hard work; loved it!!

The part about sewing the curved seam that you labeled as not exciting is very important!! Curved seams are daunting but can be done and this is a very effective tutorial. Well done!

Gawd, this is the only video that showed me exactly what I wanted to see. How do I do improv with different strips and curves?! You'd think it would be straightforward, but apparently not. Your son's in middle school by now! Well, thank you for taking the time 12 years ago. Hope your life has been OK since then.

So thankful for this video especially when you showed how to sew the two curved pieces together. Most helpful video I've seen thus far for sewing curved pieces. Thank you so much.

Stitching the curved edges together was very interesting to me… because it showed how you managed the difficulties of bringing the two fabrics together to line up as you stitched that next half inch… thank you for leaving that bit in the tutorial..

Loved seeing you sew the curves! Thanks for the demo. It helps me understand why I'm so slow -- something I must remember when starting a project with a deadline! Didn't like traditional, mostly geometric quilting designs until I discovered wonky and curved pieces. Have heard that one must not pull at the fabrics to keep them straight when stitching your curves. That's probably why -- before hearing this tip -- my curved projects were often stretched out of shape. Starching does help BEFORE sewing. I use a stiletto to help hold the fabric properly under the presser foot. Thanks again for sharing!

Thanks for this video. I'm working on a quilted pillow sham. Its all improve. It will have a lot of small curved pieces because its a forest with a waterfall scene. Its the first quilt I've tried with this many small curve. My mother in-law used to use a large embroidery needle or wooden golf tee to hold the ends of the fabric together at the tails ends when sewing at the machine. Seems to work well when I remember to do it LOL.

Nice tute! It really helps to see how the curved pieces are fitted and sewn together. BTW, have you put your knee lift on your Bernina? Really helps with sewing like this where you are doing adjustments with needle down.

Thanks for this great tutorial! It's really helpful to see how you cut and piece these shapes. I'm in a bee where we've been asked to cut our fabrics without using a ruler, so I thought your curved piecing style would be perfect. Wish me luck!

Do not cut fabric like this with your rotary cutter! It's extremely dangerous. You can do curved piecing using a ruler as a guide. Just angle the ruler at whatever angle you need to cut as you go along. Do NOT ever put your hand in front of your rotary cutter like this person did. Also, you will have much better results if you use a sharp rotary cutter blade.

  • @kristenlauster3746
    @kristenlauster3746 Рік тому

I'm not quite sure why your directions differ greatly from others. Your curvy lines are way too sharp and why do you need a ruler to cut a straight line.

STOP : You can not teach someone to use the rotery cutter the way that you just demonstrated. I don
t call out other youtubers, but this is important. You just demonstrated a very dangerous technique. Please look further for a video to safely hold and use a rotery cutter. Practice a safe way for lots of times and then you might want to think about making a video on how to make curved pieces.

I totally agree. I Hate leaving Negative Comments but Dangers like this ~Especially for Beginners ~who Don't have Experience using a Rotary Cutter & actually Anyone ~even Advanced Quilters should Never Ever use the Rotary Cutter like this... Maybe with the Quilters Gloves that Protect against Being cut but even then the Rotary Cutter should be used Responsibly. As an Instructor at the Very Least Advice people to be Extremely Cautious because it's Essentially a Circular Razor Blade!!!
I was Afraid for her when she did it because her fingers were right in front of the Blade!
      😱😵😬🤔😨
