LNWR/WMR's aim is for the fleet to be as "universal" as possible - i.e. the sets will have a "home" depot and "home" routes, but they can go and work diagrams in different areas if needed, e.g. to cover maintenance of other sets, or if needed for additional capacity elsewhere. So if anything bad happens, then chances are, you've still got rolling stock, route-cleared to go where you need it and a driver that is signed to drive it where it is needed. This should hopefully improve reliability and reduce the risk of cancellations, so a good thing for everyone.
Hopefully they won't need to put the WMR sets on the London-Crewe or London- Birmingham routes then since they can only do 90mph. Not sure why they didn't give both types the same operating speed.
@@nathanw9770Unfortunately, stoppers need acceleration, and fasts need top speed, and it's hard to get both in one train.
Firstly WMR is the owning company of LNWR and they won't be universal as these sets are for the Birmingham intensive Cross City Line and other electrified services in the West Midlands hense being labeled up for West Midlands Trains with the West Midlands County Transport badge on them
These are the best looking trains in the UK! All we need is level boarding and it would've been perfect!

Great vlog Nick. Great to see the Class 730s entering service. At some point these new trains will serve my local station Rugby well at least the London northwestern ones and not these West Midlands Railway ones lol.
We are left with the 701, which is older than the 730 but is testing
They pushed to get the WMR 730s out to replace the 319s as they need replacing more than the 323s on the cross city line. Theres a lot of swapping in WMR/LNWR. some of the LNWR trains say this on the side that they get swapped around. sometimes WMR uses a 350 for the birmingham international shuttle. The 5 car 730s are still undergoing testing as the 3 car was ordered earlier and with them being 2 cars shorter, they are quicker off the lot.
The 323s are shagged
There should be enough 730 /0 in the future that they won’t need any 350s on WMR services
The reason for this is that West Midlands Trains own and run London Northwestern trains and on a lot on LNWR trains it actually states London Northwestern operated by West Midlands Trains, but the confusing bit is that in the West Midlands the trains are labelled up as West Midlands Railways

It does mean more variety but idk I just found them charming. Hopefully some operators will continue it as an aesthetic choice.
@@blazikem I think it's less due to the yellow ends and more the specific character of BREL and other nationalised-era production.
The 730/0 can only go with 90mph while the duck livery /2 can go with 110
I was glad to go on the first one, I went from Leighton Buzzard to Hemel Hempstead, and I personally loved em 😍

730020 was in Liverpool lime street the other day on a test run they look so good.
The Stadler FLIRTs on Greater Anglia show similar info about toilet and seat occupancy which is pretty nice, they’ve worn in well after their first 3 years or so
If I recall correctly, the 700s used by Thameslink do that as well.

It supposed to have been running in the West Midlands hence the livery but as usual we are 2nd class while London gets everything
It’s to get rid of the 319s as soon as possible. This wasn’t the original plan
As there is the Bletchley Park Museum
very close to the railway station
where they broke the German codes in WW2
and developed the programmable computer
which might be a use for 4 hours in Bletchley LOL
Hope they have better ride quality than the 331 and also having a through gangway is better when coupled together.

And yes, I do believe that they are for Walsall-Wolverhampton next, went WMT did which was rather genius on their part (not words I would say often about them), because they put the 350/2s on dedicated diagrams so when the 730s come into service up here, they just simply pluck a 350/2 diagram and replace it with a 730
The same will happen with the 730/1s when they come into service, hopefully

You were on the same train as me this morning then! I understand that there are 730/0 in 3 car formations and the 730/2 in 5 car formations for longer distance services. I guess these are more focused on the West Midlands routes. Also you might know more, was this launch brought forward? I know there has been some availability issues on the 319s of late.
I think the original plan was these units would stay on the West Midlands services, but they’re temporarily being used to replace those 319s, since the lease on those is running out and they want them gone as soon as possible

The reason it’s a West Midlands livery train is because they use the similar ones that run from Shrewsbury to Birmingham new street
These wont run Shrewsbury to Birmingham which is not electrified which these units are, it is just the livery that is the same

Heres a idea for a pointless journey, Colchester to colchester (town)/Hythe Colchester, as if you buy a ticket from whereether to colchester any, this means you can get to colchester north, colchester town and hythe (colchester)

1:10 What's going on is that the poor deprived Londoners couldn't possibly wait for their shiny new trains to be ready, so they pinched our shiny new trains until theirs are done.
They are lovely trains but it is a little sad seeing all the BR trains phasing out. Hopefully one day we can regain that expertise we once had
Getting the expertise back is doubtful. We are in the process of shutting down the last two blast furnaces in Britain. Nobody gives a thought as to how we can just go on buying stuff from abroad without producing anything of value ourselves.

I should think so too. Except the Class 319s are going for scrap unless they are to be saved and to be converted to Class 768 Orion logistics units or Class 769 for Northern as extra units.
Such a pain that they released this while people had school and work.

London Northwestern Railway should also introduce the new Class 730/2 Aventra in service as its to replace the Class 319 and Class 350/2 Desiro.
I’m also hoping that Geoff Marshall will also be doing a video of the new Class 730.
These 730s are for replacing 350/2s and 323s, there are 5 coach 730s for supplementing 350/1s /3s and /4s on services out of Euston which will allow LNWR to get rid of the 319s
You’ll just have to wait and see.

I think, from the time I first saw it in the early nineties, the railways of London has been steadily moving from an old, lovable, quirky system with terrible trains, to an ultra-modern, very efficient, but, in many parts, slightly boring, high quality network.

It’s a brand new train that West Midlands Trains have ordered for West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway to replace the existing older electric trains.
And to replace the Class 323,
Class 319 and Class 350/2.
