I followed your advice of not exercising, not fasting, not restricting calories, not stressing myself out for the week before day 1. And my period was way less heavy and wayyy less painful and no clots at all which is super unusual. I always have heavy flow, clots and pain.. its only today that I've seen this video and am connecting the dots!! I'm blown away! Thanks so much for your invaluable work and also for spreading this info to all corners of the world!!

i started my period when i turned 13, currently 34 ALL THOSE YEARS i had heavy bleeding, sometimes cloths, it lasted 7 days... i found Dr. Berg, applied fasting, my periods reduced a day, and no cloths... THEN I FOUND YOU DR MINDY, i tried no exercise or fasting a week before the bleed, and my period shortened to just 3 days. THANK YOU

I have a similar issue! I was wondering - I don’t tend to feel bad until my period actually starts though so I’m wondering if I should extend the nurturing phase through the beginning of my period - have you heard any info about this?

@@tlc2741 oh, i didn't felt bad at all either, i just bleed painfully forever, 7-9 days depending. I followed Mindy's guide, and my period shortened, but i got NASTY with my husband... even told him i did not loved him... i was getting out of control really. apparently, my body was telling me i needed to build even more progesterone... so i extended my nurture phase from 7 to 10 days. For the past 12 weeks (3cycles) I have been following your teachings and fasting protocol - you have changed my life. I listen to your you-tube videos every morning while doing my 1/2 hr wobble board. I fast like a girl with as much precision as I can.
I bought an infrared sauna blanket that I use atleast 5 days per week after work. My periods have gone from being 8 days of continual heavy bleeding and clotting to 4 days in duration - one day heavy and the rest completely manageable. I’m a 50 year old school teacher and in 14 weeks Ive lost 16 kilos. For the first time in over a decade I feel hope and positivity towards the future - knowing that if I continue in this fasting lifestyle I will achieve my health goals and actually enjoy living my life. I am so grateful to you Dr Mindy - You have helped me completely change my life xxx

Fibroids are non-cancerous growths in the uterus and their treatment depends on various factors, including the size and symptoms. While lifestyle changes alone may not shrink fibroids, they can help manage symptoms. Maintaining a healthy weight, exercising regularly, and consuming a nutrient-rich diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables may be beneficial. Additionally, some women find relief from symptoms through hormone therapy or non-surgical procedures like uterine artery embolization. It's best to consult with a healthcare professional who can evaluate your specific condition and provide appropriate guidance and treatment options. 🙂

I found you about 45 days ago, at the start of the cycle before last. You taught me so, so much! I can say I already saw a result during my last period. I usually lose 100mL of blood per day during the first 48 hours, but this time it was significantly less, certainly not more than 70 mL, which is a huge difference for me. Also, I used to lose massive clots, like the size of my thumb length- and width-wise or bigger, but last period, after fasting like a girl, I lost far fewer, only two or three instead of countless. I'm going to have my next period soon. I also rested and ate more carbs around my ovulation too. I'm really hopeful, and I hope my period gets better this month too. Thank Dr. Pelz!

I JUST experienced this. I didn't consider why I was feeling the way I was, because my periods are so unregular, this 49th year of my life. I pushed through my spin class, and it was SUPER hard. Then my period started, and it was super heavy, back pain, etc....I felt awful. Thank you for explaining the progesterone factor! It makes so much sense. It is so hard to know when we should push through with our keto/exercise/fasting lifestyle, or just slow down & take it easy.

I wish I had seen this video 3.5 years ago! My OB has done exploratory surgery to look for endometriosis (inconclusive), performed endometrial ablation (which failed) and offered me a hysterectomy for my heavy bleeding. I’ve had insanely heavy periods since my 3rd child was born.
Thankfully my holistic dr prescribed progesterone cream last year and it’s made the biggest difference in my cycle. UNTIL THIS VIDEO no one had told me heavy periods = low progesterone. It makes so much sense!

Wow, same here after my third child too. I think a lot of doctors just don't know enough about this. I had several pelvic ultrasounds and exams to figure out why but nothing. My doctor told me I'm too young for perimenopause (I was 41 at the time and insisted to her that I was not) so she wouldn't test my hormones, instead she offered me birth control pills (which I never want to do again), uterine ablation or a hysterectomy...I left thinking surely these can't be my only options. I just went through one cycle fasting and taking it easy when Dr. Mindy suggests and I had the mildest period I've had in months. I'm hoping this will be a tool for me moving forward, but if not I'll try to get some progesterone cream like you mentioned and see if that helps. Thanks so much for sharing!

I am one of the few that went into menopause with hardly any issues. The periods were never heavy and they just got lighter, longer time in between and then they just stopped. I may get really warm every now and then but not like the hot flashes my SIL gets. I really only experience being warm at night so I do have a fan on me for comfort. I'm an older mom so, while I don't struggle with any cycle issues anymore, I do have a 11.5 yo daughter that has had her cycle since she was 10 and we're navigating her through that. I know her body is trying to find its groove so these tips you provide will help me help her as she gets older. Not telling her to fast but the suggestions of when to up carbs or sugars during the month may help her balance out. I know she has struggled with heavy periods lately so we'll monitor her stress levels before she's due. Many thanks on so many topics you provide!

I had to be transfused AND given a D&C during EVERY single period. I couldn’t afford depends so I wore toddler pull-up diapers to try and catch the blood.

Thank you SO much for breaking this down for us, it's so important and so misunderstood by the medical community at large out there, that we're often left feeling hopeless. I started noticing things like random breast pain, breakthrough bleeding when running the week before my period, adult acne, heavy flow, major clots, dry skin, hair thinning, brittle nails, etc. and because I was "only" 41 at the time, my doctor refused to test my hormones and instead had me go through mammograms, ultrasounds, blood tests for my pituitary gland, etc. and ultimately told me to use more lotion, drink more water and if the heavy periods persisted and really bothered me, I could consider going back on birth control pills, uterine ablation or a hysterectomy. I was sure those couldn't be my only options, so I've spent the last 2 years really delving into research on hormones, diet, exercise and lifestyle and this is some of the best I've found. I have hope once again, thank you for that!! 🙏🏽💗

Many times there is a more serious reason for heavy bleeding. Fibroids, cysts, cancer and the like. If you do not approach this early enough you can spiral in to anemia which is a wild chase of iron and ferritin levels for months. If you are bleeding that much every 28 days, you are not likely to catch up on iron and ferritin levels from the loss of blood. I speak from firsthand experience.
    Be vigilant for yourself❤️

Last year at 39 my thyroid was out of whack, and I ended up having a 7 week long super heavy period. The doctors checked EVERYTHING and decided that I should either check myself into the ER or take a massive dose of hormones. I called my former midwife (she had 11 children and helped to bring 1000s into the world) and she recommended two products ---} Slow Flow and Hemaplex. By the next day my bleeding had normalized and two days later my almost 2 month long period came to a quiet end.
I am now on a mission to figure out my hormones so that I can balance them. I'm so tired of the brain fog, weight gain, and fatigue. I just turned 40 and have had a 3 month break from my cycle. I know it's perimenopause! What now? Should I get some cream or something to help replace low progesterone?
Also, I need to start fasting again because I had great success with it a few years ago (I lost nearly 50 lbs!) but got off track because my job is sedentary now. I'm up 30 lbs. It's so sad because I worked hard to get to goal weight of 130!
Thank you you being here for all of us women! I couldn't get ANY answers from the "medical professionals" that I payed to help me. My midwife no longer treats me and she's not covered by my current insurance, or else she would help me! She offered but I could afford the $500 dollar labs.
What you're doing is life saving! I admire your dedication and honesty! Please keep up the amazing work your doing!
    GOD bless you,
    Monica

I'm now following all your advice and found this video super helpful. I would love to see a video on anaemia. My periods didn't suddenly get heavy at 40, I've had heavy periods my whole life, and I've tried nearly everything to correct them. I haven't tried consistently no to low exercise prior and eating more carbs (although i know i wouldve in my younger years, and yet still had heavy periods).
This cycle I did a 5 day fast and then went straight into my 7 day lead up. I tried de-stressing, no working out and more carbs. And yet for 2 days I still gushed, it depletes me horridly. I know I'm one of many women suffering from heavy periods leading to anaemia and fatigue. For someone who prides herself on excellent health, already doing all your suggestions, its quite disheartening. Would love your guidance.

I have read the book, and learnt so much in the past 3 months. I’m 47, had the Mirena IUD from 27-45, with no period. I’ve had to figure out how to have one again… my cycle was between 23-24 days. Now following the fasting guide for my cycle, and the nurture phase my cycle is now 26-27 days. The progesterone headache has not been present for the past two months. But this month I’ve had the heaviest period I’ve ever experienced. I was wiped out for the second day.
My gynaecologist says I’m nowhere near perimenopause, but I’m not sure.
I’ll extend the nurture phase from ovulation for the next couple of months to see how that helps. I want to try and reduce the effect I had this month.
Also, I always find the symptoms worse when I ovulate on the right side, which was this month.
I’m in South Africa so ordering the Dutch test here is not an option unfortunately.
    Any other thoughts?

48 years old, had continuous bleeding for 4 months. There was no more cycle to track. Then it just became uncontrollable massive hemorrhaging of tissue and blood. Doc said I have an intramuscular fibroid and was going to do and D&C and biopsy. I ended up taking myself to the ER while waiting for the procedure and got on Progesterone. Doc got to my procedure the next week. I don't know what the heck is going on. But if you have no cycle, no period, and just keep bleeding... you just don't know what to do. Except take a loan out to keep buying pads. Meeting with the doc next week to talk about next steps. Now I have to start researching hysterectomy and hormone supplementation. Ugggg... I'd hoped this would be much easier.

Additionally, I went off Keto for 6 months and always got migraine-like headaches on the 1st day of my period. This is one of the reasons I went back to Keto and am afraid that adding carbs back even for a week will bring back those headaches.
I have a very heavy and long period (7-10days) when I'm on keto and when I'm not on keto, the period is not AS heavy, more clots but only lasts about 5 days. I also use progesterone cream.

Didnt work very long. Progesterone makes me bleed, birth control makes me bleed every 2 week's. 45, had 5 kids, i highly doubt its low Progesterone. Why? It makes me bleed. Iodine deficiency may be an issue. Supposedly, supposed to help regulate cycles and shorten them.
