It is not about bashing anybody, it is about helping ordinary people not being fooled by influencers. So, THANK YOU, Dr Idriss
Agreed
I honestly found her bashing GP with what I felt an arrogant tone. This was 2 years ago, so there's that. Why act like that?
@@eileengreenspan730 Gwenyth Paltrow was giving out objectively bad advice. You're watching a dermatologist review a skincare routine that is so obviously unhelpful, why complain when she points it out?
@iamonmypersonalcomputer I'm always up for an expert commenting, but to do it in an eye rolling, bullying way is not kind. NO Dr in their right mind does that. It's childlike. So turned off.
@@eileengreenspan730she’s an MD whose interest lies in protecting patients. GP is known for making wacky health claims including vaginal steaming. So eye roll away. I’m team MD. 10 years+ medical education bears more weight to me than does an influencer who only finished high school.
The thing that strikes me the most is how celebs like Gwyneth are so confident to speak as if they are experts.
Yes like when she did how to eat healthy for a week using $40 or some 🤬🤬🤬😂😂😂😂😂
Gwyneth is definitely an example of Dunning Kruger. I hate that people buy the claims GOOP makes.
She is selling her brand. That is her motivation.
She's a modern day snake oil saleswoman preying on people with more money than sense.
@@mizzymo64 😂😂😂 she is an out of touch celebrity. But who made her famous 😂😂😂 tamato tamatoe
I stopped watching "influencers" for skincare needs. I now watch dermatologists like yourself for my skincare needs. So happy I found your channel when I did. Congratulations on 100K!
Exactly! How do they know that the 20 different creams, serums, etc. will not act synergistically/ antagonistically with each other lol? Plus, anytime I see someone apply more than a handful of products to there face, i just think how effective can it all really be???
the 100k was in April 2001 😅 this is not a new video.❤
She now has almost 1 million followers, and she totally deserves it
Dr. Shereene is the most genuine. There are other derms here on YT that I dnt feel like Dr. Dray who's shading over the counter forms of retinoid (despite its numerous studies and reviews) but kept promoting HA. Which is complete contrast to Dr. Shereene's
Same. And even if I didn't know these two women, just judging by their skin in relation to their age, I know which one has the more effective skincare routine.
when people start claiming that "natural" is better than "chemicals" I point out that arsenic is natural. There is a store in the mall that touts all natural ingredients but they are SO harsh that they those ingredients can clean your kitchen. Thanks for battling the pseudoscience and I am really digging this look from you
Natural doesn't mean a thing, one of the most natural and primary substances in the world are Radioactives, so :)
I went to a Cotton workshop and in regards to Organic Cotton they also said snake venom is natural and will kill you ! Natural indigo dyes are horrible for the environment as well. Anyway just agreeing with your comments lol
And uranium
Literally EVERYTHING is a chemical and made of chemical compounds at its base.
natural needs to stop being synonymous with "good". sure some things are better for you if they are natural, but this dosen't apply to everything. natural foods? sure, much better than highly processed foods. it just isn't a universal sentiment, poison ivy is natural, you shouldn't be putting that on your skin. death is natural, dosen't mean you should be willing to throw yourself into risky situations all the time. in skincare alone many things are natural and yet people are allergic, or they just aren't good for your skin.
It blows my mind that these celebrities have access to the best dermatologists and products and still get it so wrong
Truly they think like this
''You are person of science but I will do it my way, thanks bye''
That proves that surgery is king for them 😂😂
@@Dan-vr7zs people constantly do this! I'm a nurse and I tell patients all day what would be best for their health and they just want to do it their own way and ignore science. Why did they even come see us if they don't want to take the advice. They use up resources and time that can be used for other patients truly needing help.
Indeed. The only celebrity beauty advice I’d take seriously are JLO’s or Halle Berry’s. But of course for them, genetics play a major role.
Yes I always say this!
Her skin does tell the story. Some might like that story, I’m sticking with slathering myself in SPF, for LIFE!
Especially her chest! Most people say the neck don't lie, but the chest don't, either.
I agree! It’s super damaged!!!
@@kendallstark4302 Exactly! And thanks to Dr Idriss I’ve now started to bring my skincare down to my chest too. I don’t want my face and neck to look as smooth as a baby’s butt and then have my chest look as wrinkly as a leather couch
Amen!

Thank you for addressing the fear mongering being put out there. As a pharmacist, I was completely cheering on your educational moments in this video. Thank you for doing an excellent job educating the public!
I wish Dr. Idriss could be my dermatologist! I spent years trying to fight simple skincare problems and my derms would never actually give me a treatment that works or really explain how to use the products they recommended. I now have glowing skin thanks to your videos! Thank you :)
Because they want you to be their client, to take money from you
Dermatologists on UA-cam is the best thing to ever happen to me on my UA-cam journey. I love this doctor. She cares about people and genuinely wants to educate and help people. She's so intelligent and no nonsense!
OK.. so I'm 2 years late to the party 🎉 but so happy to have this pop up on my screen. Was a HOOT to watch, I was cringing everytime you were 😅 though. Influencers, please take note. Vogue needs to hire a dermatologist as one of thier beauty consultants.
True that
I vote for @Shereene Idris!!! 🗳
Right.
Vogue’s target audience isn’t all that interested in facts or science. Not the smartest demographic, let’s be honest!
Vogue has had tons of dermatologists on their payroll for years. Gwyneth brings more eyeballs. They'll use both. They don't care.
She is so honest, annoyed and... aggressive. I LOVE IT.
It was very enjoyable ☺ The eye rolls, the strength she needed to hold back her horror and make it educational lol
@@Superstar6249 yes!
...and unprofessional too.
A bit too aggressive. I feel a bit uncomfortable. Like she's shouting at me 🥲
@@shomshomni2314 wow really? I find her very soft spoken and mellow.
So let me get this straight.... Gwyneth is trying to tell us that all we needed was HER, the utter genius that she is, to come up with a skincare line that saves us all from harm..... raiiiiiight??!!!
Words fail me..🙏🇬🇧
aka gwyneth the savior.
Omg Dr. Idris. Really?? Madame Gweneth giving skin care advice?? She has ugly skin!! It's sun damaged to the max!! It couldn't be in worse condition. I'm so happy you are making these videos!! You've really studied skincare. You're really knowledgeable, most likely 12 yrs. Worth of college. She is so "IGNORANT"!!!!!! I suffered from cystic acne since I was 14. I'm better now that I'm 60. Yes...My Dr. Wasn't kidding when he diagnosed me with "long term cystic acne "! It's been horrendous!!!!!!!! Thank goodness I didn't apply all those useless products. I'd be a bog pizza mess with all that oil and gunk on my skin!!!
Why would you buy from an actress?
Then gwenyth goes and uses plastic surgery!
Gwyneth Paltrow is on Mars. I find her a self promoting narcissist that’s completely out of touch and her recommendations are either wrong or dangerous. Thank you for explaining.
I love it when Dr Shereene drops the medical book. Iconic
Omg I said the exact same thing😂
ahahah totally!
Loooool thank you

Dr Shereene deserve all the applause and supports from her viewers because of the way she stands out for what she thinks ❤
totally ! she’s the best at calling out the skincare fraudsters
I think the funniest thing to me is that she says something like “people ask me about finding a good moisturizer in a drug store” ???? Who is asking her that? Who believes Gwen has stepped into like...a CVS in the past 10/15 years?
75% of my dermatologist recommendations come from CVS. I have sensitive skin - so fancy is not always best. I can afford the lux stuff. With the exception of 2 high end cleansers and one serum - my moisturizers come from CVS.
@@Galworld761 You're missing the point
Or ever
Lol right?!
🤣🤣🤣
She said what we’re all thinking - the proof is in the pudding, Gwyneth’s skin is riddled with issues caused by sun damage!
She really does not have great skin.
I don't think that's relevant. she just happens to also be giving out bad advice. there are plenty of people with beautiful skin who give terrible advice. you should really seek a dermatologist and ask for specific advice for you.
@@jenm1 I see what you mean. I think because Dr. Idriss spoke of how Gwen's morning routine consists of aspects that make her more photo-sensitive, that makes her skin look more sun-damaged.
@@SiSi-xg1hk I hope so because most people in the comments are being really sexist and ageist

The fact that Vogue posted this clip is abysmal ... honestly so embarrassing for them

All about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Harper’s Bazaar did far worse with Bella Thorne’s “skincare” video.
Mihaita, thank you for putting it eloquently.
Is Vogue...what are we expecting...they just try to sell things to us
Gwen is her biggest fan. Shes always been a legend in her own mind 😂😂😂😂😂 beyond that, I can think of many other actors that I’d love to get their routines from.
This is why I’m grateful to actual professionals in the field having YT channels and informing about the right way to use products and give at least general advice and warnings depending on skin and concerns. We’re not here to get into in place of personally seeing a dermatologist about our concerns but to learn since the whole “beauty influencer” era has really delivered so much misinformation to audiences for years now on this platform. And it may not be all influencers, some do share from professionals or their own researchers, but nothing tops the professional experience and knowledge of a doctor in these fields. So really, thank you.
It’s really frustrating to have celebrities like her spread so much misinformation but also to have Vogue post the video is equally irresponsible.
Thank you for making this video and showing how wrong of a message she is sending out to everyone.
PS you look amazing!💕
Garin Palandjian it's likes spreading your house of the Covid about misinformation about skincare. 😁😁😁
I agree. Well said. ♥️✔💯
People should realize those Vogue beauty videos aren’t worth watching. So much bad skincare being glamourized !
Thank tou so much
And let’s all remember these celebrity skin care routines are very much helped by Botox and fillers, laser treatments, weekly facials etc.............So this is not the entire routine!
It’s about time real solid information is told about taking care of your skin and everyone/brand throwing around “clean” beauty which changes everyday. As a licensed esthetician the amount of misinformation on UA-cam and the over saturated skin care industry is insane. Keep up giving the REAL info because women need to hear it!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻💪🏻👊🏻💋
I love your channel too Nikol it makes me look forward as I am in my mid 40’s - Kudos to you and the good Doctor 😍
I can't stand the whole "clean beauty" trend, there's way too much mis-information around it. Like, the fear mongering when it comes to preservatives in products and wanting everything to be "chemical free". If only these people knew that water and oxygen are literally chemicals, so essentially there's no such thing as a chemical free product.
@@nissan_skyline it's very much the same as when people talk about producs with "natural" ingredients can't hurt you.
Cyanide is natural
Arsenic is natural
I support this message. I just wanna add that the info is needed for anyone who's into skin care, which I'm sure is not just women.
No you don't understand it's CLEAN AND NON-TOXIC!!!! 😂 😂
I saw several videos of a similar type, reactions of dermatologists or other influencers on celebrity skincare videos.. Have to say I like yours the best, by far. You explain everything in a very calm way, with all your reasons behind everything, seems very professional. Plus you do not put the celebrity down. Will come back for more.
I like how everything Dr. Idriss critiques, she explains with the help of science. Its interesting to hear, super informative. Also, I snapped the screenshot of your textbook, gonna study it.
"... this coffee is free of orange juice..." is ICONIC
This is why we love Dr. Idriss. She is throwing sophisticated, educated, subtle shade and it’s devastating.
@Chris Case...actually NOT SO SUBTLE...I expected more from an educated doctor, she acted somewhat childish by trowing little tantrums, rolling her eyes, banging on her desk..not at all very convincing in trying to educate UA-cam masses on the benefit of sunscreen.
@@sandyfeet9502 I found it quite educational actually, especially after pointing out all of the sun damage on her skin in her reaction, I definitely see the benefit
@@devs8002 YES, it was educational and probably much needed...BUT one could educate without the theatrics the way Dr. Idriss has done. The message could have been delivered in an adult fashion. GP and Vogue are NOT dermatologists and both are sellers of their brand...ONE should always educate oneself when it comes to self care. I respect Dr. Idriss accomplishments...but is now she has become a UA-cam blogger in order to sell her brand. Everyone is doing it....
@@sandyfeet9502 when did she try to sell her brand?
@@devs8002 Are you here? Dr. Idriss sold her brand to you..how? Every time you click and/or subscribe she is "selling" her brand. The definition of selling one's brand is this...Just like products, brands need to be sold-but selling your brand is about more than showcasing a list of features; it's about building and expanding the message of who you are and what you're known for.
Just fell upon your YT video - this was hilarious! I love your comments about not canceling and fear mongering and also how important it is to educate yourself - it takes time to do the work - so great to have actual dermatologists on YT explaining pros and cons and what routines to use - I've been following Dr Dray this past year or so but I'll be checking into your channel too !
I JUST found you on UA-cam this week…I have been a skin care nerd since I developed acne in my late twenties. I learned a lot from various estheticians and dermatologists over the years and luckily, now in my thirties I don’t struggle with acne in the same way BUT my skin barrier is so compromised and I swear what I’ve learned and applied from your videos in the last few days has helped tremendously!! You are so clear and smart and passionate. Thank you!! And also thank you for taking on Gwenyth…❤

As a biologist when people talk about “nontoxic”, “free” and others it makes me cringe so muuuuch
When a product is labeled ‘chemical-free’ 🤦♀️
But you know exactly what they mean by nontoxic and free chemicals.
@@alyssavanblanckenberg1342 or when they say _disgusting chemicals_ when everything is chemical base!
@@alyase3872 Yes, we all know what they mean by those terms, but what we are against is their attitude that anything "chemical" is toxic without understanding that everything IS chemical. To give you an example, one of my aunts is like this. She once told me to stop using baking soda for baking since people use it to clean stuff, ergo it is a "chemical." I asked her what I ought to use instead. Her reply, "Baking powder." I didn't tell her that baking powder HAS baking soda because what's the point? All she knows is people don't use baking powder for cleaning.
Also, "natural" isn't necessarily safe. Poison ivy is 100% natural but salicylic acid is not. That doesn't mean you should use poison ivy in your skin care and absolutely avoid salicylic acid.
@@alyase3872 no we don't know "exactly" what it means because it's subjective. It doesn't mean anything it's simply a marketing ploy. Did you even watch the video?

Thaaaank you so much for addressing the "clean" and "non-toxic" issue. I keep shouting at the top of my lungs that it is a marketing ploy and I wish more people with platforms would address that as well.
Louder!!!!
As someone who studies Marketing at university, I profoundly agree. The ‘natural is better, clean and non-toxic beauty’ is just marketing. They’re empty words to appeal to customers and be the ‘highlight’ of the market.
@@carmenmfscmf Yes, it’s my field! I am always telling people they need to ask more questions about why they buy things but no one wants to listen to me lmaooo. Good luck with your university years!
I believe the term is “green washed”. There are numerous brands out there that use the “clean beauty” or “non toxic” brands freely, even if it’s not true. It’s also not illegal. Definitely a huge marketing ploy. I don’t depend on those “labels” but rather the ewg app to get an idea on the ingredients used.

I love that you made this video! Thank you for sharing information. Your passion for empowering others with education is amazing! ❤️👏
I must admit, I was definitely part of the "non-toxic" community for a while, and I think my journey down that path began as a response to the insane cost of healthcare in the US and this mentality of, "Everything is out to get us." It wasn't until I started listening to scientists (and dropping ridiculous amounts of money for "clean" versions of the same products I used before) that I stopped being afraid. I use products with parabens, glycols, silicones, etc. and my skin has never been better. My only wish is that more conventional products would have more eco-friendly packaging or refillable packaging, but I know due to certain actives that might not always be feasible. Gwyneth Paltrow and the messages she sends on videos like these and on Netflix are dangerous. Thank you for speaking out and educating us all.
Exactly! Everything is a chemical and much of what is supposed to be clean is often irritating to the skin. The only universal thing is how eco-friendly the packaging is. What a great point Grace. I agree completely.
@@suhasinibose1656 I even remember in high school chemistry, we made "chemical lollipops" where the ingredients had their more scientific names (glucose, etc.) to underscore that point. So many logical fallacies in the "clean" movement, including a few that Dr. Idris has mentioned.
medicare for all was the solution
Great post! I consider myself quite well informed now (because I’ve literally gone out and done just that), and even still I feel that initial, panicked “what?” feeling when I read things that come from that community. They’re so convincing sometimes, which is of course why people believe them. And I totally agree with the packaging thing, but I believe we’ll see more of that coming! A company (that ironically probably falls under “clean” branding, except their objective is on refillable/environmentally friendly packaging and informing the consumer by being forthcoming, plus being a good choice for sensitive skin) in my country has created a refillable deodorant that actually is just a “normal” deodorant. They will have both aluminum and aluminum-free versions, you buy the shell and just buy refills. The refill ones I’d seen previously have been alu-free, and for a lot of us that isn’t the right one. So I believe some brands are trying. Ren are doing a lot on packaging from what I can tell. While still believing in and championing science. Hopefully more will come! I’m so glad you informed yourself and so glad your skin is doing well! Happy skin is so important for our well-being. ❤️
Agree!! I went down that path too when I started getting interesting in skincare. Then I learned from so many UA-camrs that my vision was not right and even dangerous. I really noticed a difference when I stopped using essential oils in my products. I hate that all the reusable packaging companies are also ‘clean’ and ‘natural’. Another thing I wanted to add is that the dose makes the toxin. Therefore anything can be toxic. But i’m hopeful and I can already see a change in the skincare industry so I hope that continues.
Oil, then eye mask, then sunscreen, then moisturizer. DOES SHE EAT DESSERT FIRST?

Thank you for your time and patience in educating us!
You taught us a ton while “reacting to the vid”, most will just “react” negatively without construction. Thanks😽😻
🙌🙌🙌 so glad it was helpful!!!
Along with "clean" and "toxic" I want to trash "natural" as a term for selling skin products. There is no legal definition of any of those terms in relation to cosmetics or skin care. Your reaction was just like mine, the silent scream with the eyeroll.
Dog poop is “natural “but I won’t be putting it on my face!😂
"Detox" as well
@koro sensei natural doesn’t mean anything. That’s the whole point. If they mean that a product contains plant extracts that’s not a recommendation. Plants can be and often are poisonous. Some of the “natural” ingredients in a product can actually damage skin. So caveat emptor.
Also “organic”. It’s all buzz words.
maybe in in the us 🤷🏼♀️ in the eu ingredients wich could cause harm are forbidden in natural cosmetics
This is gold😂 your honesty is much appreciated.
I love how annoyed she got! 😂 My dermatologist keeps saying the best moisturizer is the one you love and can afford. She actually recommends vaseline and since ditching the SK-II for vaseline I've had my best skin ever.
I am older and my dermatologist does not recommend too many pricey items.
Vaseline is great. I switched to Aquaphor and was better. But I recently switched to pure glycerine.. and it’s magical lol
Both the Vaseline & Aquaphor eventually dried out after a long 10,12,14,16,19 hour shift at work. But the glycerine lasts all frkn day! And it’s not as heavy so showering the next day, I’ve noticed it’s easier to lather soap.
Barbara I use sk II also and love it. I found that it’s the only thing that doesn’t make me break out. Did you find that you get more pimples using the Vaseline?
@505giraffe I don't get any pimple with Vaseline it's supposed to be non comedogenic, it's probably worth trying it on a small area of your face at first maybe? Just to see what happens, it's so cheap it's worth trying

@@SN-di9ix No real science behind many of their claims. Plus, if you go to the website, what started as a community of enthusiastic researchers, now it's really a site that sells/markets "endorsed" products.
I always think of polyethylene glycol when I hear that and I’m like the laxative?!
Rock on, that site is garbage.
I love how she gives us a scientific explanation for everything instead of just throwing pieces of information here and there.
Absolutely love your videos, please keep on educating the public about celebrity brands and the Beauty industry ‘s fear mongering so we don’t waste our money on their overprice mediocre products.!
Eye opening for sure, and very helpful to those of us who must make do with drugstore products. Pricey isn't a guarantee of greater efficacy. Love this channel!
YES.
“I don’t think she’s fully well versed in skincare”
The eye roll. omg an icon.
All I can say is thank you! Gwyneth Paltrow is not a physician, healthcare professional, or scientist. She is a celebrity. She should not be providing "wellness" advice of any kind in any way, shape or form to the general public. It is simply dangerous.
Never stopped anyone before, unfortunately.
This presentation of yours makes me happy. You go girl!
THANK YOU for this video. I used to use Goop products and fell into the misinformation they promote. I still like to use some "clean" products (personal choice- and the ones I've found work for my skin), but you and your channel have helped me change my perspective SO much on skincare! Gwyneth is not doing what she think she's doing... I can't believe she thinks she's a skincare expert *insert crying and laughing emoji*
"if you can't make mistakes and learn from your mistakes, you're going no where" PREACH SHEREENE
PREACH *DR* SHEREENE
@@DK-zt7vz truuuue DR DR!
U can learn from the mistakes of others thoooooo
@@suides4810 for suree
Did she really say, that the eye patches were good “If you’re doing a PHOTO SHOOT?” Wow. Hollywood is SO out of touch with reality.
You mean you don't have random 📸 photos shoots throughout your week 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Didn’t Gwyneth also say people should try an vitamin IV treatment? Girlfriend has been out of touch for a while.
I'm definitely NOT a Gwyneth fan, but to be fair I think she was just talking about her own experiences.
@RothysOOTD well that's not entirely true. Celebs are just ppl, some are more educated or in touch than others. Just like regular ppl, some are absolute morons, some aren't. Gwen is for sure out of touch, but she isn't a reflection of ALL celebs. It's about discernment when deciding who to listen too, celeb or not.
I've never had a photo shoot. Ever. 😂
Dr. Idriss you are a godsend to your UA-cam audience! Thank you for all this amazing information! ❤
I am grateful for coming across your video you really bring out the true details❤️❤️
As a retired professional I need to say that your intentions are spot on. The old saying if you don’t have something good to say then don’t say anything at all, I completely believe in. You however, are educating and not criticizing unnecessarily. Excellent video.
Professional what?
So grateful for dermatologists on UA-cam. It's changing my life
I came across your channel looking up skincare, but I got to say, along with valuable information, I've very much enjoyed your fun, spunky personality. Thank you for creating content and educating us, while being charming in your "no BS" way.
I am so happy to discover this woman!!! A-MA-ZING! So knowleagable, so professional...and beautiful to the boot. Love it!
As a pharmacist and skin care lover, thank you so much for being positive and providing solid, evidence based info for everyone:)
I really like how you don't hold back at all. A lot of UA-camrs will clearly hold back their feelings in order to be more polite, but you're both classy and straightforward about how you feel. No bullshit. Love it
I was thinking the same thing!
I just love your work, thank you so much!! I've non stop watched your videos ever since I discovered you. thank you thank thank you!!!!
I'm so glad I found your channel! From the moment you said pause, I appreciated your sass... Education, always 😊
Why is no one talking about how she did all of this with a full face of makeup on?!?!
Exactly ❣️❣️❣️❣️🌸
She did talk about that
She did talk tho! In the beginning when gwen start talk if you realy notice.
@@Belfastboi yup, mentioned a few times throughout
Yep! 🤔
"This is where I died" you are the absolute BEST!! I've had people in my life trying to push expensive "clean" beauty MLM crap on me and I feel so validated right now LOLOL
I am so happy to discover this woman!!! A-MA-ZING! So knowleagable, so professional...and beautiful to the boot. Love it!
I LOVE her. She's authentic.
Started watching for skincare tips and stayed for the entertainment. I'm learning about skincare and having a laugh while at it lol, thanks!
I swear I couldn’t stop laughing. I love how honest you are and how transparency seems important to you. Thank you soo much.
Sunscreen as highlighter...because skin cancer only affects the high points of your face.🤦🏼♀️
The sun is so considerable isn't that lovely😂😂😂
OMG WTF is wrong with her🙃🙃
I know a woman who “highlights” with sunscreen so that she’ll tan in the unprotected areas and have a “natural contour” 😭😭
@@Kate-ct9ys this is so funny 😂
I just found you , through my sister's recommendation. I'm a doctor. I LOVE your content. Thanks for fighting fear mongering and nonsense beauty products!!
I don’t know how I’m just getting this video now, but thank you for the education! Also, I love how you point out that, just because an ingredient is also found in antifreeze, doesn’t mean that ingredient is necessarily bad. Quite interesting
Ahaaa! There it is! My whole time watching your videos I’ve been wondering about the little UA-cam info tag that shows up on your stuff! (To me they only put info tags on stuff where they don’t want you to think critically and go against the grain of a certain narrative) so when I got to this video and you said the thing about the “three letter group” I was like “ohhhhh there it is!! She earned the UA-cam tag by espousing logic and science instead of further endorsing the lining of the pockets of elites.” 👏🏻 Just like the other creators who are given the tag! Well done, Dr. Shereene! Thank you for your commitment to data and education! 💖
