"I'm Doug Stanhope, and that's why I drink." is probably the greatest thing I've ever heard anyone say ever. At least I always think that until he starts talking and one-ups himself.
Funny, I found Stanhope via Charlie Brooker! Freshman in college, bored in my dorm room one night perusing youtube clips and found an episode of Screenwipe. Loved Charlie's classic caustic British humor, and when Doug's segment came on...blown away. I realized I'd found a comic in the calibre of Carlin or Hicks and spent the remainder of the night cycling through his clips. I shudder to think what bullshit I would've been swindled into had I not stumbled across Charlie or Doug.
I find it fitting that the background score is Beethoven's 7th Symphony, 2nd Movement. It is the same as in The King's Speech, when he makes his wartime address at the end. Both great speeches. The prophet speaks.
Stanhope is how I found out about Charlie Brooker: I was looking for tour dates on his website and came across an old "Newswipe" bit. That got me addicted to "Newswipe", which in turn got me hooked on "Have I Got News for You", "Mock the Week", "10 O'Clock Live", etc. Now, thanks to these 2, I rarely watch US telly. I know more about politics there than here. I've even started calling people twats and spell favourite with a "u". I live in Alabama, for f-ck's sake. So thanks a lot. Tossers...
'If you're gonna get your medical advice from a TV doctor, might as well get your advice from Dr Dre or Dr Seuss. Cause at least that way the bad advice you get will rhyme' holy shit AHAHAHAHAH XD
Dr. Phil is supposed to be a psychiatrist right? That means he probably has a PhD. He isn't qualified at all to give advice to someone trying to lose weight. What the hell does he know? Quack.
@PopeSalty1 a lot of uk tv doesn't get over to the u.s because your tv producers think stuff like this wont work in America because the culture gap but you have proved that's bullshit! We speak the same language basically!
Doug's a brilliant cat, seems to be channeling some of the best of old school observational comedy. He's a refreshing original in an era of some really lame comic writers. If I were more fast-lane I'd probably arm wrestle him for that stuff he saw on Hoarders, after all, I saw that stuff first, I think he saw it on the re-run. Cheers!
Er, no, Britain's NHS (and even most of Europe's mixed state/insurance schemes) cost less than half as much as the pre-Obamacare US system, which I guess hasn't changed hugely beyond making people pay for it whether they can afford it or not. US healthcare was a scandal - the world's richest country letting 40m+ people go untreated wasn't a good ad for the corporate dream, unless you were a "health" corporation. Healthcare includes "care" which doesn't equate to consigning people to the grave because they can't afford it.

I love how Doug makes Charlie look like an optimist in comparison.
He's eating in the ambulance...
....it was either that or he would have eaten the fucking ambulance. They were prepared!

Always good to see Doug on Charlie Brooker's "Wipes".
I find it fitting that the background score is Beethoven's 7th Symphony, 2nd Movement. It is the same as in The King's Speech, when he makes his wartime address at the end. Both great speeches. The prophet speaks.
I've had this piece of music in my head for ages and could not remember where from! Thanks for naming it.
Stanhope!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) Typically great Doug riffs ! Love it when he is engaged and laser precise. When he is on his A-game there is no one like him.
REally funny. I liked the couch and the jacket.

This clip is great, but the longer version of his tv doctors/God cure bit is flat out brilliant. Check out "Before Turning the Gun On Himself".

He's eating in the fucking ambulance!

'If you're gonna get your medical advice from a TV doctor, might as well get your advice from Dr Dre or Dr Seuss. Cause at least that way the bad advice you get will rhyme' holy shit AHAHAHAHAH XD

+agentk1986 He's making a show out of his "patients" misery. That's what I would call a criminal offence.

@crankysconga lmfao! it was heroin's idea. its always heroin's idea
Kind of weird that it seemed like Doug was supporting national health care. He's normally so anti government.
as much as i hate fanbois, doug is a fucking hero.
This Charlie dude really ask Doug about a lot of stuff. What's this show about?
Doug is the fuckking maan. Where is that standup from? Anyone know?
It's in "Before turning the gun on himself"
He! Louie C.K is great. ejh.
I happen to think Dr Dre gave the most important medical advice of all time.
smoke weed everyday?
Somehow that music really threw me off. Doug Stanhope's comedy is better standing on it's own.
If you haven't already look up "Gameswipe" Charlie Brooker's Special on Computer Games...
@PopeSalty1 a lot of uk tv doesn't get over to the u.s because your tv producers think stuff like this wont work in America because the culture gap but you have proved that's bullshit! We speak the same language basically!

You're welcome....
I love Doug Stanhope but why does he look like a 80's car salesman
Great mixing. I can hear everything but the intended contend. Good job, dick.
Precisely the explanation as to why people adore and idolize Trump
Health care in the UK sucks ass, but at least you don't have to pay (translation: It costs 5 times more.)
Actually American healthcare is some of the most expensive in the world.
The Qeltar
Not when compared to the waste, crime and immorality involved in a government run program.
coffeefish So now we resort to making stuff up, right...
