    I presume at the end of the throw, instead of keeping on rolling to put yourself in an RNC, you could move to side control instead, right?

      The focus here is on the throw, and in Judo you're incentivised to get the opponent's back to the floor, which is why we roll through. But you dont have to roll through if that's not suited to your situation.

      @@EfficientJudo Ok thanks, makes sense.

    I ended up in this video when you compared the relationship of O goshi and koshi guruma with ippon seoi nage and uchi makikomi. Is uke getting sort of wheeled in this case?

      Well this is a makikomi rather than a guruma - I made the comparison to try and explain that throws that might be visually similar can have fundamentally different throwing actions. Beginners often think that O-goshi / Koshi-guruma are the same throw with a different grip, but they're a different action. Ippon-seoi-nage and Uchi-makikomi are likewise visually similar, but more distinctly different actions, so I thought it may be a useful comparison to show differences.

    Why is this throw not used more in competition compared to seoi nage?
    Against a tough opponent, would you use this or soto makikomi?

      I think there are uchi-makikomi's often that get called seoi-nage in competition. Although they seem pretty similar from the outside, to me the application of soto vs uchi is actually comes from quite different situations.

    Could you have finished this throw while standing? (It' would not be makikomi, but I aks because of overturning the hips on ippon seoi nage)

    • @EfficientJudo
      @EfficientJudo  Рік тому

      Yes you could, it may feel a bit like a Koshi-guruma like (but obviously from under rather than over). That said, from that position, the finish will be easier with the makikomi action, otherwise you'll need to give a strong pull on the arm.

    this looks like seoi nage? im confused

      It may look similar to a Ippon-seoi-nage, but mechanically the throw comes from the wrapping / winding action, hence the makikomi. Look at the hip positioning, the way tori rotates to throw, and compare this to the Ippon-seoi-nage video or even the Seoi-otoshi video and the difference will become apparent.
