Your description of this technique is outstanding !
To me, (Soto & Ko-uchi & Harai & Hane) Makikomi are a clear-winning-techniques when they are applied. With some hand-work-tricks ... Uke can't "read" your mind when you're ready to apply them! I believe ... for O-soto-makikomi, the way how foot works, Uke can anticipate your intention. Thank you for this video! Oss.

Thank you. My favourite throw for about 30 years. Thanks vor showing the "classic" (Arm high up, not what we call in Germany the "Schweinerolle" = "pig roll" with the arm under the armpit). I often aply it successfully against BJJ players while they are trying to get my back.

This is more the way I learned to do it. But recently I've see some videos where they step backwards, turn, and go under the guy's arm completely. Then carry the guy on their back and roll them over.

thanks for pointing out why my osoto makikomi always worked but my sode makikomi didnt! It's not immediately obvious and that body contact makes a huge difference.

I always hit an Ippon and change it to a Makikomi. We also train Makikomi Hara Gaeshi. Great stuff

Very instructive, like all your videos though! 👍
I would like to ask you a question about self defense. Across MA’s, most moves against a front choke are deemed ineffective. Very often, eye gouging, hitting the throat and other extremely dangerous techiniques are indicated as the only ones to work. Aside Tomoe nage, which would very likely work, what else in judo would you use? Thank you very much for your advice.

Can you use that throw, leaving the arm behind the head to fall straight into a scarf hold?

Can a more lighter fighter aply this against a heavier ?

Good question, yes it can work for a lighter person with the right timing but in general it works even better for the bigger fighter
