I dont give a shit what anyone says... I LOVE this chicks voice. It's so raw and real. Its adds an emotion to the song that really suites it. And she fucking shreds on that banjo. Most of ya'll couldn't walk and chew gum at the same time. Let alone sing and play an instrument.

I had a boyfriend in college that played the banjo in such a way I’d never heard before. It’s hard for people to understand when you say “I love the banjo” because they think of that one type of song. It’s such a beautiful instrument and under rated. I love to see folks loving it!

Anyone who has a problem with the vocals has never actually sat around a jam circle and appreciated real bluegrass. It's more about the jam, the instruments, and the moment. Not being an autotuned pop singer. The best bluegrass in the world sounds exactly like this.
Her raw voice is what makes this song so amazing. Unfortunately in her own song, her voice sounds more "produced" and in my opinion that ruins them.

Their performance, (especially the singer’s,) has a truth about it that no “studio wizard” can create. It’s just as it should be.
She's also singing further away from the camera mic's than the other singers so her vocals are going to be a bit off since she's not trying to 'belt' it out. Great video and performance.

Ed Copeland I think Patton meant that style of banjo is not bluegrass, which is a typical style of picking, she is playing a claw hammer style. Or failing banjo. Bluegrass banjo is played with the three finger picks. Or maybe he did mean it’s not bluegrass genre music and at that point I would agree with you Ed and say it is indeed bluegrass.

This isn't a Towns' song. You're thinking of 'Waiting round to die' which has a similar line towards the end which the writer of this has lifted for the chorus.
The banjo playing always sinks into the marrow and chills to the bones. If anybody just sits through this music, there is something very wrong. I cannot sit still. This band is way above excellent, and much big ginormous respect to them all. Eliza is a phenomenal banjo player!!!!

you gotta spend the time to learn how to actually play the instrument man, it takes time even for people with talent. These guys didn't just pick up the instrument and magically were able to play in a single day lol

I literally got chills as soon as Eliza began to sing. That woman is powerful.
We were out doing chores and running errands for family one Saturday. Me and my two boys. We hit a few yard sales along the way. After we finished everything up, we decided to swing by G.G.s house. Their Great Grandma, my grandmother. We saw what I thought was a yard sale, but it turned out to just be a family in the front yard with a lot of stuff, chairs, and some BBQ rolling while they were playing bluegrass on a guitar, five string, and an upright bass.
I stayed to hear the whole song and clapped at the end. They were great. They never acknowledged my presence in any way. It was very strange behavior for people playing bluegrass, but this was in California. People there just aren't right.
There's a feel to it when you're there. This sounds great on a device, but to be there is a tactile thing that transcends sound alone.
This is a fantastic performance. Wish I'd have been there.

Same for me. I thought was kinda tribute to Townes, but the song isn't from dead south, it's a cover, a nice cover, so prpbably original song could be older then 1969. Whatever: Waiting round to die is my Townes favourite song. Nobody could tell a story like him
This is a cover... trampled by tutles wrote the original... and yes they were influenced by Van Zandt. Along with Dylan and Ralph Stanley... so basically it's a "tip of the hat" to their inspiration... good ear.
