This short video shows you how to easily shorten a roller chain for a bike, snowblower, anything that uses a chain! The great part is you don't even need any crazy tools!
This was a great memory refresher haven’t changed a link in a chain close to 40 years now , I will now get my motor bike chain done thanks for the refresher on changing links for this old dog 🤪
Thank you thank you!!! I did it! I’m 61 years old, and since I was 11 I’ve wanted to fix bikes myself but for 50 years life got in the way...and now that you’ve shared such clear instructions I’ve shortened and installed a bike chain on my own. To others it may be a little thing, but to me, it’s big. 🚲💕 🚲
This was an enjoyable video to watch for the eyes and mind , full of passion and precision , much thanks for this effective and helpful video kind sir!
I dont see how any of this is helpful. All he did was take it off and put it back on he doesnt really show how to actually shorten it and take it all apart.
A great short video. Maybe you could have used a pin punch, just to show that such things exist. Maybe you could demonstrate how an offset link works. It seems that a normal master link limits you to even number links in the chain length, but I may be wrong. hsteacher1
@@user-xt2yg4od7z You may have a rivet-type master link then. It may look something like this: www.amazon.com/Sunstar-MXR1-RL-Master-Link-Rivet/dp/B077B5ZM1H That is a different type.
I have this test at work They give you 30 inches of chain and they want 22 inches. If I measure out 22 inches, do i need to go to the next link after 22 or the link before 22 inches? Logic says go before because one should account for the master link.. Hope ya get this, test is tomorrow lol
Chandler Johnson You will either have to replace the chain or get creative. For example, my snowthrower had an idler assembly that I removed. It works just great!
+Ed Kaye a dremel should be just fine. If you dont have a ounch small enough, a nail works just fine. If the dremel doesnt have anything hard enough, a regular metal file works good too.

You are the best at chasing a chan please keep up work and make a nother video

thank you, because you didnt say go buy chain breaker, cause if I do have chain breaker why would I come here in the first place,,,thumbs up
Thanks so much most videos say you NEED a chain tool but sometimes no body has time for that so thanks
Short, simple, and straight to the point. Thank you so much!
Good video. How about a bicycle with a coaster brake which direction do you favor with the master link?
Thanks. Good video. Interesting about open and closed sides of link. I didn't know that. If you dont have a bench grinder handy use a file.
Thank you mate a lot easier than I thought 😊
Helped me do it first try. Thanks!!
Thanks first time project and really helped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks a bunch ..A no nonsense video........

very helpful, i don't have that chain tool. but this looks pretty easy, and you explained it very well, thank you.

Does it work on a half link chain??
worked for me today thanks
If you can use a dremel to grind it down, shouldnt u be able to just put a grind-end or dremel tools on a normal electric screwdriver and just go?
Thanks very much from Bosnia
So thanks I have used it. it is right to shorten the chain
Thanks man my kids bike chain shouldn't slip off anymore
Thank you this helped sooooo much you r a life saver
Glad it helped! Be sure to check out my other videos. Always looking for suggestions too.
Damn good video man! It's perfect, exactly what I needed!!!!!
Thank you for this information now I remember how to do it it's been so long
Glad I could help
Good job
thanks a lot we did not know we had to use a beanch grinder
Thanks man
Thanks for sharing

Thank you.soo much. For that video so use full to me so it's very good idea to upload this video excellent......👌👌👌👌👌
Thanks, just shortened my motorbike chain using this video as a guide.
hi friend .do u need motor chains
I wish I had seen this video before I destroyed my kids go kart chain.
thanks
Thanks for the advice bro
+pdizzy310 any time, my friend. I would love any recommendations you have for new videos for me to make to help out.
Supper bro you are best 👍👏
What if you cut the chain too short.. can it be fixed??? Plz help
Cut add another master link with an inside link
nice and easy
thx
was that a center punch? it looked like a nail to me..
kenstogie why yes it was. Sometimes you have to use what you have.
he sounds like mark whallberg sorta (idk how to spell his last name lol)
What is that last piece called that you put on?
I'm not sure, but if you Google "Masterlink Parts" you will see a bunch of companies that sell them.
Super bro
I bought a chain that has the upper open part but closed and it can't fit to the chain, what should I do? Is there any trick on that system?
Are you talking about the master link?
@@JayferRattrap yes

Nice video, may have to do this on my kids ATV. Real mechanic wears no nitrile gloves :-)
HaHa. Yeah, it’s hard to remember that you are always supposed to wear gloves. An unfortunate old school habit.

I would honestly go with your idea.
Helpful cause no need to buy tool
Me without a grinder, or a punch with a mini bike chain 2 inches too long...
I grinded it but the pin does not want to come out, Idk why
Make sure you have removed all of the rivet that mushrooms over the chain and get a finish nail or punch on it.
This dude sounds exactly like Michael Scott
I'll take that as a compliment
It was! Great video too!
What happens if the chain is broken in the little just put another master link in
Chandler Johnson just go back one link.
then it will be to short
Chandler Johnson You will either have to replace the chain or get creative. For example, my snowthrower had an idler assembly that I removed. It works just great!
So the open side to the right ? To the facing the engine not outside
Depends on which way the chain travels
Just make sure the open side travels
So, if it spins clockwise, the open side should be on the right as long as the master link is set up on the outside
👍👍👍👍
is there a way to do this shit without a halflink?!
+Túlio Santiago If you could rivet the chain together like at the factory, then yes. I haven't figured that out yet though.
They sell offset links. Check em out
I will try to use a Dremel to file down the silver nub and then knock the pin out with a nail. Hopefully it works.

Thanks man. I gave you a thumbs up.
+Ed Kaye of course, a bench grinder is the best for grinding. I think thats how I did it on this particular job. Good luck!
chain tool a lot easier
Yup, but if you don't have one???
Pretty gross to leave your toothbrush on the workbench like that!
+Lightspeed Dan its probably to clean the chain
Dont znati objasniti
Marko Cugura trebate li još pomoći?
