    What do you think of the Diplomat by Satchel and Page? Let me know in the comments below!

    I'm partial to the new "Founder" bag, because I rarely need to carry enough to warrant the extra bulk of the Diplomat or Counselor. I just wish the Founder had the longer zipper feature

    I just bought one in December 2019, and the luggage strap element on the side is gone. No more lobster claws on the shoulder strap (standard hardware now), and the inside is a solid color. One thing I like is that the logo embossed on the bag is now quite small and unobtrusive with no lettering. Still beautiful and functional.

    Great video, thorough review and gorgeous bag! I had one of their satchels in hands, it's obvious they do take the time to do things well, it oozes top notch craftsmanship and attention to details.

    Great review! I’ve been studying this for months while trying to land on the perfect briefcase. I’ve narrowed it to three: Counselor or Founder by Satchel and Page, or the new Jefferson by Buffalo Jackson. I’d love for you and others on this thread to let me know what you think and help me decide!

    • @CarlMurawski
      @CarlMurawski  5 років тому

      To be fair I’ve never tried the Buffalo Jackson stuff, though people seem to really like it in the comments. I do have experience with several Satchel and Page products however and they’ve been stellar. It may come down to the aesthetic you prefer, S&P is a little more refined looking IMO.

    Hey Carl, thanks for making these videos! They're very helpful and enjoyable to watch at the same time. I'm a bit undecided between the Marlondo single space and the Satchel and Page Counselor. How have they held up over time and how do you think they will age? Also, how does the leather compare?

    Hi Carl
    As a short man (150 cm), the Diplomat is just way too big for me. It's look beautiful though especially during that slowmo.
    Anyway, what do you think about their Slim Mailbag?.

    • @CarlMurawski
      @CarlMurawski  6 років тому +1

      I think their products are tremendously undervalued, you really get a lot for the money in terms of construction and materials. I'm actually shocked they've been able to keep prices so low. If your loadout can fit in the Slim Mailbag I say go for it, but it does look to be slim and have a little less capacity.

    What’s the difference between the counselor? Thoughts between the models?

    • @CarlMurawski
      @CarlMurawski  6 років тому +1

      The counselor is a little bigger overall and has some extra capacity. I kinda wish I had gotten the Counselor because I’m finding that i carry more stuff these days and the extra storage would help. Still, that leather is so gorgeous and the design is so well thought out that I can’t bear to part with the Diplomat.

    • @coledeux
      @coledeux 6 років тому

      Just bought Counselor based off your review. Absolutely love it. Craftmanship is awesome. It is elegant and agree with full length pocket comment. A steal at its price. Now, I'm looking to buy something for my wife and I definitely could since their style is very unisex. If you use a non-Apple laptop for work, I would say get the Counselor. Otherwise, if I had gotten it for off-work hours and my Chromebook and tablet, I would have gotten the Diplomat.

    • @simoncheng13
      @simoncheng13 6 років тому

      Aside from the size difference, Satchel and Page indicated that the differences are the front pouch for the Counselor (the one Carl wanted for the Diplomat), and the handle differences (Diplomat has the brass bracket hardware, whereas the Counselor is stitched. However, because the Counselor does not have the brass brackets, they have the copper rivets beneath the handles (seems like an aesthetic detail)
      It's a tough choice for me, but given that I have a 13 inch macbook pro (it would shake around too much in the counselor), and I prefer the brass bracket that attaches to the handle, I think I am going to go with diplomat. I do not have much to store in my bag when I go to work, so if I went with the Counsellor, there would likely be a lot of sagging.

    Just bought the counselor. I LOVE it. But they don’t make it with the integrated luggage strap anymore. Huge disappointment. They now sell a separate strap for all their bags, but it doesn’t look like it will work very well with a briefcase with a laptop inside. I watched this bag for almost at least a year before I pulled the trigger. Guess I should’ve bought it sooner before they made that awful change 🤦‍♂️

    How would it compare head to head with Marlondo ?

    • @CarlMurawski
      @CarlMurawski  6 років тому +2

      Much different categories, but I hope this metaphor helps explain the difference: Marlondo is like a nice pair of raw selvedge denim, Satchel and Page is like fine wool trousers. Does that make any sense? I just feel that they’re so different in their approach that it’s hard to compare.

    • @acidofil87
      @acidofil87 6 років тому +1

      I've just got today my Marlondo Classic Satchel in black veg-tanned leather. I completely get your point with selvedge denim metaphor :) It fits my needs completely at this time. Thanks for reviewing both brands !!

    • @acidofil87
      @acidofil87 6 років тому +1

      New England Style Consulting I will tell more in a couple of days, but the bag itself looks very well done. The leather is very sturdy and heavy. For some reason I imagined that veg-tanned leather is softer. I've got a can of leather wax from Marlondo, which was very nice. The only thing that looks a bit cheap is the mechanism joining arm strap with brass ring, but I will see.

    • @CarlMurawski
      @CarlMurawski  6 років тому

      Keep me posted, and don't forget that you have a lifetime warranty. Tim is very good about keeping his customers happy. You'll notice that vegetable tanned leather softens up really nicely over time, and once you've put some time in it will mold nicely to your daily use.

    Where are Satchel and Page goods made?

  • @joecarroll8286
    @joecarroll8286 2 роки тому +1

    Coming a little late to this, but I just wanted to put a comment here in case anyone else is doing research and thinking about getting a new
    bag. I don't know if they maybe used to be good and something changed, but my experience with Satchel & Page has been awful. I bought
    their Executive bag back in August, and despite what they claim on their website the laptop compartment isn't fully padded (there's no padding on the bottom, where your laptop constantly impacts every time you set it down), the leather is permanently water spotted after being in a light drizzle for less than a minute even though they claim the spots will be "absorbed" back in over time, and now, after six months of part-time use, the stitching that holds the interior pockets in place has started to come undone. For a $600 bag none of that is okay. They DO look pretty. This thing is lovely when it's just sitting there, but if you're reading this and are on the fence about whether to take the plunge I would highly encourage you to look elsewhere. There's nothing remotely quality, let alone "heirloom", about their bags at the moment. If you just want a super delicate bag that's pretty to look at, go ahead. But if you want something that's actually going to last you're better off saving your money or buying something else secondhand.

  • @andys8918
    @andys8918 5 років тому +1

    FYI to those looking to buy, they “upgraded their leather” last year and it is now incredibly delicate. I had a bag from this brand that I loved, until my car was broken into one evening, and it was stolen. When I replaced it with the new leather, I basically ruined my bag week 1 from a light jog from one airport gate to another on a short layover. My jeans rubbing against it was enough to do a ridiculous amount of damage. I’m thinking this was not an upgrade, but a cost savings measure. They have significantly cheapened the product.

    • @walterray1791
      @walterray1791 5 років тому +1

      Disagreed. I had their Mailbag made with older leather and got their Gladstone a few months ago. The new leather is WAYYYY nicer. It looks and feels way more expensive. I travel weekly, and the Gladstone is my carry on. I wear it with jeans and never had a problem with scratches. It has picked up a few scratches from the overhead compartment of the airplane, but that is expected, and the bag looks better now than when I first got it.
