- Elvis interviewed by Paul Wilder backstage at the Polk Theater in Lakeland on August 6th, 1956 - the interview was done for TV Guide and short bits of it was released (by RCA in September '56) on a 45rpm EP "TV Guide Presents Elvis Presley", a very sought after record today.
Elvis did three shows that day at the Polk Theater - more information about the shows on this great website; www.scottymoore...
Admirably mature and constantly in his fans' corner, this man is a treasure. His polite restraint demonstrates his Southern upbringing. Being poor has nothing to do with manners, grace, style, and dignity, all if which he has in spades‼️⚡🌹
I'll tell you what... After listening to this interview, if one doesn't realize how smart and matured Elvis was at just 21 years old then I think there's no help for your perception. Tell me someone anywhere with just 1.5 years in the business who can be so clear thinking and I'll be very surprised. He is just so ahead of his time it's truly amazing.
And and for one fan to another I just now read this comment that you made about Elvis and I truly truly agree with you and thank you for one fan from another yours truly.. and I feel confident that Elvis would have liked us very much had we had the opportunity to meet him and him to meet us LOL you know folks like my goodness when you recognize it it's like a gift of God to some of us..
I'm so glad our beloved Elvis didn't let that ole fuddy duddy affect him.
He was confident in himself at such a young age.
He was timeless, talented, and wise.
He could just let those ridiculous insults slide.
He was very polite and gracious, always.
We fans are proud of him.
This interview demonstrates what a strong character Elvis was, clear and clean in his thinking and well brought up.
Presley's tolerance and intelligence in handling a total ass of an interviewer is commendable and admirable. Elvis was a much smarter man than he was given credit for.
This is depressing. Elvis should not have been treated this way. But he was a trooper, he endured all that garbage.
Important historical interview. Wow.
The man was born to be a star. Period.
Elvis had a precocious intellect, way beyond his years; he displays astonishing maturity in this interview.
Totally agree Sir.
His Mom raised him Right, and he was a
Naturally gifted Beautiful SOUL.❤️✝️♾️✌️
Elvis is incredibly smart and outwitted the writer of that article for real.
This interview proves beyond a shadow of any doubt that Elvis was one of the most kind human beings that have ever walked this earth. Of all the things he could have replied with, instead of sticking up for himself, he immediately defended his fans. TRUE CLASS! Class is not determined by how you dance, it’s how you treat people, and handle yourself!!! Elvis died before I was born, and oh how I wish I could have known him...maybe in heaven one day!!
Elvis sounds so different here in his youth but he sounds just like the country boy he was and he was beautiful xoxo
His voice changed with age. After the Army his voice deepend & once he started doing movies his voice got more consistent.
He was the ultimate cool guy ever during this interview.. and he remained so cool throughout his life
elvis was a very intelligent man. Listen to this interview, he just knows what to answer to this reporter....
This shows that Elvis felt that "fans are people too"!he was TOTALLY connected to the fans from the beginning.
Good answers elvis!
ELVIS was and is forever, a Gift from GOD,
He was Heaven sent ✝️♾️🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️✌️
Elvis was a master with the press.
Wow, 21 years of age, and the maturity, level headedness and utmost humility heard in this interview is immeasurable.
That interviewer was trying to provoke Elvis more and more with each of his innane questions , Elvis one step ahead at all times.
How on earth Elvis kept his cool, when that horrid man mentioned his church upbringing, taunting him almost, Elvis quick to defend and proud to hon our His roots and his beloved gospel / spiritual singing.
As for some of the other questions, concerning his stage presence and the influence on the girls, answered with great aplomb I thought, as were all the ridiculous questions put to him.
As always Elvis,s impeccable manners, were evident throughout as was the mature way he handled the interviewer, who was biting at the bit for Elvis to stumble.
Throughout this career he always handled the press well, being both courteous and honest, its quite apparent from day one he's had obstacles and frustrations to overcome whilst remaining his integrity.
His gratitude and defense of his fans spills over in this interview.
To think this was all before His fame ate him up and spat him out.
No kidding!!
So glad Elvis did not listen to the negativity and the opinions of some people. He is so great in answering the questions. I am so thankful I found Elvis and his beautiful voice and his humbleness. His beauty is from his humbleness and his humanity. What an example he set for the new generations. Elvis is one package of beauty. Love you Elvis forever!
There isn't enough words can be said of Elvis
Elvis Presley broke glass with his style, honesty and damn good looks. He was a very smart man and if he listened to all these negative critics he would not have been the star he is today. Elvis knew what and where he wanted to go. His music and great great talent will never be forgotten. As once said nothing before him and nothing since.
He broke bread also
Elvis was wise beyond his years so very humble and honest. What an articulate speaker he handled this interview with class. love listening to him talk
First time hearing this. Wow... so PROUD of that 21 year old boy it brought tears to my eyes! This is why he became the KING.
Perfect responses here. He gave more of himself to people than a lot of people deserved, but I bet he still wouldn’t do it any differently. Rest in paradise, precious soul.
*This was a brutal interview. Elvis handled this very well, like a Southern Gentleman.*
He really wouldn't be drawn into any direction he didn't want to go into, he didn't let them trip him up- his ego was very much under control.
Like "a gentleman" would still get your point across.
He is so sweet, so hurt by the insults and yet trying to stay composed (with success). Defending his fans and being very polite. Well done, Elvis (as always!).
Elvis was unique, he was a very smart man,he never turned his fans down when they asked for his autograph, he was very personable and compassionate, with them, that's why he was and still is the biggest star on the planet, he was special!,and no one can compare to him!
Elvis is the best interviewee ever! He is absolutely cool, calm and collected and exceptionally articulate. I just love his answers. I’ve listened to this interview several times and I love it every time.
Never heard this one. As everyone has said he showed so much restraint and defended his fans. I love the southern drawl! I can’t believe they just keep hounding him. He was so humble and answered so well!! Forever impressed with Elvis. There will be no other individual who can come close to Elvis! Not his singing, entertaining style, humbleness, looks, intelligence, musical creativity, etc. thank you for sharing this with us fans.
Love listening to his voice. ELVIS respect to the way he answered the questions.
He had such a big heart, the way he defends the young ones of his day being called idiots. Thanks for posting
boy I'll tell u ole ELVIS HAD better self control than I could ever have those folks that asked him all those dumb ass questions have had to eat a lot crow my boy knew how to keep his anger in check I'm proud of him for it
Elvis was an extremely modest, humble, clever, and successful interviewee. ✌👑👼❤🌹
Elvis endured some difficult and painful moments in his life; this interview is one of them.
This was 1956. Surely, by that time Elvis knew the entertainment he delivered was controversial. The media is gonna ask tough questions. Comes with the territory. Thank God for the free press!
Lol, this man is still killing it!! Love this interview so much ❤. Elvis just showed every damn critic that they all had egg on their faces. Someone said they were happy Elvis didn't listen to them!!! What a sweet man loving my Elvis till I die 🤗😇 and probably even after that in heaven ❤
Well done to Elvis for this lovely man.Good he didn't take any notice of the silly things interviewer was saying Elvis kept his cool
Elvis learned a lot from his church and got his move's from going to church and he also learned good manner's there. Nothing dirty about what he did he was an entertainer and the best ever!!! I just can't say enough......
The part of this interview where Elvis defends his fans really shows what a very decent and loyal person he was. Very good interview and he was very mature for 21.
Excellent interview from a 21 year old Elvis Presley.
Yes so intelligent for 21 Years old!!!
@@clairedubery1056 absolutely!
His voice is very different a voice of a young man..and i love the way he laughs
Elvis is the rock roll he had a voice of Angel. I wish he was still with us. Hope he's in hall of fame .he loved God and he loved gospel. Miss ya Elvis.
Elvis ended up in several Halls of Fame!
Couldn't agree more voice of an angel 😇
Elvis is now in Paradise. Probably singing praises to our Lord. I hope to see him there one day. And hope to be a backup singer for him. ❤
One of the most silliest interviews in the history of Tv and Radio,
Those questions were from some idiot. Elvis handled it with ease.
You tell them like it is elvis good for you god bless
Boy ....were they wrong about Elvis. People still love him , including myself. He was so young in this interview. I remember living in Lakeland Florida when I was a little girl. We didn't live there long . My dad's brother and his family moved down there from Ga. , but they stayed there . My uncle Billy had a mechanic shop and he had a used Mercedes car lot . But this was back in the 70's. I don't know when my uncle Billy and his family moved down there. That was a different time back in the 50's . But I love listening to Elvis in these interviews . He probably hated them , but he sounded like he was just telling them like it was. He was trying to be honest and he wasn't trying to make them mad . I'm sure Elvis was raised to have manors no matter what . I bet after a few years went by ...I bet he didn't take nothing off nobody . This is such a big part of his history though and I love it . Glad I came across this.
BONNIE BROWN Wasn't Lakeland the place where National Enquirer had their office n plant facility at that time ?
If Elvis was not so strikingly Handsome, he would not have had so many attacking him for the way he moved, danced, etc. These guys could not handle seeing the females in their lives so enthusiastic about Elvis. All driven by jealousy they tried to attack his morals.
Most of the boys in my school made fun of him, cause their girl friends were crazy about him. We DIDN'T CARE!! WE LOVED HIM!!!
True !!
He was so mature, articulate and intelligent at his age then answering all the questions honestly and thoroughly. Wow just started learning about Elvis more on UA-cam. He was ahead of his time and started something in the Rock n Roll business.
Shows what a nice decent young man he was. That's how he was raised. Most people wouldn't put up with this. Elvis was to darn nice. He didn't cause a riot about all this talking about him. He just went on about his business. I love the way he talks to this guy. Elvis is so cool. He remained the same until he passed.
I have some of this interview on an album. The audio is much better on here.
A riot on the spot I'd still be fighting for him and I'm 60 lol
Truly an exceptional talent then and now!!!
Elvis was mature and kind in his response for a young adult. He handled this situation with dignity.
Oh how I wish this was on video, so I could see Elvis' expressions!!! I love the passion in his voice, yet he didn't get pissed like I would! Thank you so much for posting this!
I Loved the way he put this ignorant man in his place! LOL
Good answers by Elvis.
Well done Elvis sticking up for the kids who enjoyed his shows, no one has the right to call anyone an idiot. Also he didn’t roll his pelvis, I hate it when people who try to imitate him do that because he never did that
He stuck up for his church too.
Yes! Back then, he mostly moved his left leg, and his right leg/foot did a strange little(or big) sorta walk across the stage. Or his legs moved a bit like he was doing part of the Charleston. WHAT A GUY!!!
You forget how southern country he sounded when he was young & how high pitched his voice was. He really changed his speaking & singing voice fairly quickly in his career. This was a fascinating interview - so glad it has survived & thanks for posting it.
His voice changed with age. After the Army his voice deepend & once he started doing movies his voice got more consistent.
Elvis was so amazing . . .
I was 9 months old when this interview took place! My parents would play Elvis's records for me or I wouldnt go to sleep! I would bounce around till I got sleepy. When Love me Tender came out I had to hear it before I would go to sleep! I guess it would be safe to say I have loved him ALL my life and I always will! As the lyrics go! ❤
LOVE your story, Wanda!! Now, I play at least one of his songs several times before bed
Sure does help.
Elvis was and still
Is the best. He’s such an amazing inspiration to everyone.
Elvis is so polite ,respecting this interview by calling this guy sir . Wow Elvis is so respectful, what a polite person Elvis is.Love you Elvis r.i.p.
He sound grown up when defended the teens in his time.
I thought most adults back then hated rock music. That's what the movies and other media portrayed.
Elvis spoke the adults was respectful toward him.
Most disrespectful was jerks whom wrote that article their talking about. Also disrespect from boyfriends of the girls that yelling in the crowds.
Thank you for this interview.
I cant believe He sat there and listen to that and didn't get a lot more pissed than he did. I would love to see there faces with today's artists if thought Elvis was Bad.
Wonder if Elvis had quite because of what they were saying about him what music we would be listening to today? Glad he was not detoured by these negative articles. He is so mature with his answers. He was the only one that could have been the King of Rock n Roll.👑 I don't think anyone else could have held up to the criticism that he endured. And he was always polite with his answers. Elvis was awesome. Long live the King. ❤❤
Probably not true, but I read that during some of the last concerts, he wore a bullet proof vest under his jumpsuit because he had, had death threats. So, he still had to "battle" just to do what he always wanted to --- entertain!!! 😎
Elvis said during a concert that he wore a bullet proof vest.
The interviewer is insufferable. How Elvis remained polite is a tribute to him.
ugh i love him- he’s so cool and honest
How Elvis stood for the STUPID questions posed by these "reporters" is a testament to Elvis's calm head and polite demeanor.
WISH WE ALL KNEW HIM. REALLY KNEW HIM. WENT TO CHURCH WITH HIM, LIVED BY HIM, SPENT TIME WITH HIM, GREW UP WITH HIM--WENT TO SCHOOL WITH HIM --WAS RELATED TO HIM. THE WORLD WOULD ALL LIKE A PIECE OF HIM, SOME MOMENTUM TO JUST HAVE. NOT EVERYONE WAS THAT BLESSED, BUT IT ISN'T CAUSE HE DIDN'T TRY TO GIVE HIMSELF TO THE WORLD, HE DID, AND HE CONTINUES TO
Why shout?
You are correct in what you say here. I’m guilty of watching interviews with people from every angle. “I dated Elvis” or “I was Elvis’ cook” or “I was One of Elvis’ pilots” and “I was a neighborhood friend growing up” pretty much the list you provided but I just listed off real interviews I’ve watched over the last 5-6 weeks. I have a habit of choosing someone from the past that I’ve admired and seek out everything that I can find on them. I recently did that with Evel Knievel and even for Frank Lloyd Wright the world’s best architect. I just totally Immerse Myself in a subject. Born in 65’ I was 10-11-12 years old when I loved Elvis & Evel. They both wore White leather jumpsuits LOL. As a boy I thought that they both were real life super hero’s.
the guy putting down elvis was so jealous!!!!!!it ooshed out of his comments!!!!what a jerk from that days!love elvis still do!
Elvis is the king deal with it
He's is at Soul! He is authentic!❤🎶🎯
Elvis does so well. Great El!!! You're fantastic. He was a True gentleman.
Glad he achieved the world's attention and it is great he socked it to them.
This reporter reading out his quotes , i wish this was visual cos i recon elvis's face would have been a picture , no doubt forgot the question by the time he got round to answering it, but he would never nave let it show he was most respectful. love how someone chipped in and said about elvis being given the chance to speak when he said " let presley talk" gotta love elvis i jst love the southern accent that he lost in later yrs. well done elvis you handled thoes reporters very well polite truthful very respectful and only 22yrs old. more used to . jst so lovely to hear his views. i never tire listening to elvis
ELVIS was only 21 in 1956. Born 1-8-35.
I truly truly love Elvis Presley's heart and demeanor innocence yes but wisdom abundant and intuitive thinking combined with a pure heart of love and so is a killer and not to mention his looks.. no this was not an accident.. the Elvis phenomena was a gift that God selected for a reason..
Elvis knew that his fan's were what was keeping him going. I love everything about him. Who said Elvis can't sing? He sang from his heart until he couldn't sing anymore, he contributed so much to the music industry, not just for himself but for other entertainer's too. He never put himself above anyone and that's what set's him apart and make's him so special. We still love Elvis and alway's will.❤❤❤❤❤❤
Whoever is doing this interview needs to stop reading Rou's stupid review and how many times does Elvis haft to answer the same question about his moves. Elvis was so smart, polite, and patient with this reporter. I would have already went off on him. But Elvis was a class act here. I can tell Elvis was raised to respect people and his elders.
Totally agree. I was 🤔 the same thing. His questions were so redundant. 👏👏👏🔥🔥 Good for him holding his cool 😎
To be fair this is what makes it all the more interesting, kind of silly asking him what his favourite clothes or cars are, all that had been talked about in other interviews, this is more a serious interview and to be fair the guy doing the interview is half laughing about the news article he's reading out
OH MY WORD!!! Can you believe this guy?!! That was more like an interrogation! UNBELIEVABLE!!!
He was an example of a perfect entertainer - who communicate with everyone - he knew all these people keep him in bussiness. And also very aware of him dealing such a dump interview - he did a perfect role in this, and in all it came a legendary interview - though never heard this one ( being an Elvis fan for 25 yrs). And so cleaver and sophisticated in his 20s...
Wow. He was extremely smart. Only 21 and more mature than this interview deserves.
Elvis the Master❤
Wow! Thank you so much, v04630! This recording is awesome! Best interview of Elvis I’ve ever heard. Elvis’s humility is so obvious in this interview.
Elvis Forever!
Xcelent interView of Mr Presley! The young man seems to be honestly respectful!
The looks of TEN Film Stars.
Voice of a God, Soul of a Saint, Dance of a Devil, Wize as a Wizard.
Thang U verrrr murrrch.
Elvis has good taste in music. I played with PINK CADILLAC, an oldies band. About every 3rd song was an Elvis song. Whenever people stopped dancing, we did an Elvis song. BOOM, everybody started dancing. Chuck Berry & Jerry Lee Lewis & Gene Vincent had the same reaction.
Really cool how you can hear the opening act before him in the background, totally cool audio. Good interview
Oh yes and now we have snoop dog. Elvis comeback we need you.
Great interview!
I got to tell you I have never heard some of these early interviews with Elvis Presley but man oh man for somebody that just has a high school education he was f****** f****** smart Beyond a ba degree! This man had intelligence, wisdom and a heart of gold and a blessing from god! End of story end of story and nobody will ever ever be able to convince me that this is not true!
Elvis knew all that BS that man said about him was just that BS and I never heard this before but it really makes me sick that someone would say something about him especially since we know now it was innocent music compared to most everything that came after, Elvis was a good boy and he sure did handle it very good and mature way more mature than the guy or guy's that said all that crap I grew up listening to Elvis and he was a big part of my childhood in the 60's matter of fact the first record I ever bought was Elvis's Elvis loved God his family, and his country, an I say damned anyone that say he didn't.
A tip: you can watch series on flixzone. I've been using it for watching loads of movies lately.
@Sam Evan Yea, I have been watching on flixzone for years myself :)
Elvis handeled himself with class and dignity throughout the interview with this insufferable ass. He was only 21 at the time and showed a maturity beyond his years. He was always a gentleman and quick to defend his fans. Loved the man and his beautiful soul. This is why he is the KING.
tcb always king!
BIG credit to Paul Wilder & Co.
THIS is the alltime best in-depth interview ever bar-none - with The King!
The Undisputed King!
Jealous men doing their best to trip and trap Elvis through journalists and their stupid questions and articles. EP was always the better man than all of them combined. Elvis forever 💯⚡❤️
Elvis gave an intelligent answer for every stupid question
I love the fact that there was one grey haired lady (17:50) jumping up and down clapping for Elvis.
Haha omg. He could play the guitar and he could sing. Man he could sing. He sang songs that ment something. He felt the songs and he danced to them. When you feel a song you dance to it. Like the music makes you feel free ot it makes you feel free. . I think elvis just moved what he felt. I thank that came from what he felt.
I was interrupted in my comments while talking about Elvis Presley, He is a great performer. He is the best. Because he knows about all there to know.
I Love Elvis💖❤️💗💝💕
Elvis was on tour that summer and took June Juanico with him. I recommend her book if you can find it! ❤️❤️ They were so in love.
Sounds more like a cross examination from a prudish prosecuting attorney.......
I have yet too see any one do what Elvis has done in his time. He has fans till this day . There's will never be another Elvis. Would have LOVE too see him in CONCERT. But he was before my time too bad. Foam from Cali.
Elvis was Fabulous! Interviewer was Tough !
This interviewer is trying to instigate in the beginning lol trying to piss him off
I went to that exact Polk theater the start of 2018 to see Dwight Eisenhower’s impersonation of him. Was a great concert! Nice to see others take on the role of Elvis Presley. 😄
The legend lives on!
The epitome of a gentleman… ❤️ long live the King x
I give Elvis credit for this interview he kept his cool with this guy and was very respectful this guy was really pushing him typical reporter and Elvis was very honest with him
I like his country Side!🤣💞✨
EM PORTUGUÊS DO BRASIL! MERECEMOS! ELVIS SEMPRE ELVIS PRESLEY! SALVE!
Perfect answers to stupid questions and statements so jealous its crazy
