Yeah, it was a bad comparison considering the message of the movie was not to judge solely on looks and that the two of the live happily ever after. Frogger looks more akin to a character from a low budget children's educational straight to dvd Christian movie anyway.
They hired new artists, without knowledge of them. They just wanted to hire them to make the game. They may have little experience with games like this.

This game also has the late Deem Bristow, the original voice of Eggman from Adventure to Heroes. And Lani Minella, voice of Rouge during that same time period. And there's also Steve Brodie, the voice of E-102 Gamma. This game shares a lot of SA1/SA2 VAs.
My favorite part of Frogger: The Great Quest is when Frogger crawls into a tree for the sole purpose of parodying the Dagobah Cave scene from Empire Strikes Back.
10:30 I would say some of the best combat I've experienced in a platformer (outside of Ratchet & Clank's solid gunplay) would be the Sly Cooper sequels. Very basic but useful moves, enemies go down in, like, three or four hits, you auto-lock to the nearest enemy, picking up/throwing opponents with Murray in particular was always fun~
I really liked the stealth aspects too. Creeping up on them to nick items was pretty sweet. It gave you something extra to do instead of just hitting them.
You know I think the reason why you get so creeped out by the floating animation is because when you really look at it, it kind of looks like Frogger is hanging from an invisible noose.
Ugh. I've always passed by this..."iteration"...of Frogger on store shelves when I was younger. I always thought that he looked like a knockoff Wallace and Gromit character....
I remember owning this train-wreck of a game as a kid. Wank camera, wank controls; horrendous clipping issues. And it used to give me nightmares. I still have it locked up somewhere. Every time you put the disc in the PS2 it sounded like it was going to explode. Probably why I've never touched it since. I'm honestly not surprised to see you finally get to this one. It's somethin' else, that's for sure.
@@saruarchive6285 It's also a blue disc, which are known to read slightly louder off the console than the standard discs-- at least in my case. My other blue disc games sound much softer by comparison. I had the original fat PS2 when I first played it as a kid. I'm afraid to test it out on my new silver PS2 slim. I think my old PS2 knew this game was awful. It would practically cry out in agony each session. Sometimes the game would just crash all together. I can't believe I even bothered to complete it. I had stumbled across it at a K-mart with my dad years ago. It was between this game or Pacman World 2. He chose this one. Thanks, dad...
@@ParmMannREBORN Believe it or not, this isn't the worst game I've ever played. I've experienced far worse than this. It's definitely high up on my gaming shitlist though.
Watching this review gave me a much better appreciation of Zapper. I've owned that game ever since I was a kid and my family's general consensus was that it was good but it "ripped off Frogger too much". Knowing that it was meant to be an actual Frogger game that Konami turned down in order to release this digital abomination makes the game so much better in retrospect. Also "it's pretty much the Sonic '06 of Frogger" is such a funny line.
With 06 you can at least tell what it's going for. Also the story in concept is actually really cool and also has some really great moments. The animation is really good, some cutscene's are still quite impressive today. Not to mention some of that music.
@Richard Lucena But even sonic boom had more good things about it than this. I mean I heard the show is good and the 3ds games are decent. Even the wii u game you can see there was effort put into it that was shut down by Sega's incompetency. This game you can't see that at all, it's just a mess that has no potential, the best it could've been was your standard 3d platformer from the 00's. In a way it's legacy better known with it being shitty.
I actually remember watching that a lot as a kid; I actually remember that it was premiered right after or before TUFF Puppy (I don't remember which, just that they had a special event where the two shows premeired), and I liked Sheen, so I was a really into it at first. In hindsight, it's really odd that they would make a spin off to Jimmy Neutron four years after it ended, and it was really weird in general, not to mention considered bad by general consensus, although I haven't watched the show since probably 2012 at most, so I'm not exactly fit to talk about it aside from childhood memories.
Strange to think about how much the team that made this game influenced the canon and style of the Frogger series going forward. The logo, parts of Frogger's design, Lumpy the Toad are from the top of my head. Heck, I swear the guy who tells Frogger to get back the Froglets in Frogger in Toy Town is supposed to be Lumpy, and that's the latest reboot. Also strange that Frogger Decades and maybe Frogger Pinball on iOS are the last parts of Adventures canon.
At 15.42, the effect you're seeing is likely the text renderer reusing a vertex list and the information being used about which vertex being part of which triangle (called the index buffer) becoming momentarily incorrect as new letters appear! It's not physics, but it's definitely a rendering problem. - different, a game programmer
The funny part about this whole thing is that I vividly remember having a new-age Frogger game for GBA, I think it was Temple of the Frog specifically. I also remember it being really good, if really frustrating. I can't wait to see your take on it.
This is the first time I’ve ever heard a reviewer call the controls floaty and I’ve been able to recognize the floaty-ness with my just eyes without having to play the game and feel the controls for myself.

Coff coff Tsuyu coff coff

also the internet's time stopped 😈
Miss Piggy proves otherwise.
6:00 How dare you insult the ogre overlord Shrek actually found consensual love
Yeah, it was a bad comparison considering the message of the movie was not to judge solely on looks and that the two of the live happily ever after.
Frogger looks more akin to a character from a low budget children's educational straight to dvd Christian movie anyway.
Shrek is actually endearing looking, Frogger just looks like a freak
@@_-Lx-_ that's literally how i felt 😂
@@_-Lx-_He looks like he belongs in one of those rip off of popular movies like Ratationg or What’s Up
Yeah but Shrek wasn't looking for love. Love found him
I want the concept artist to find this and recall "Yeah, that wasn't even me--I just sent in my kids' artwork and they took it."
The game took 1 month to create because they started from scratch after firing everyone but the management.
They hired new artists, without knowledge of them. They just wanted to hire them to make the game. They may have little experience with games like this.
No one:
T-Posing Mosquito: " *I AM DEATH, DESTROYER OF WORLDS!* "
"hEllO."
“Whoever wrote that line should go to prison”
This guy is my hero
This game also has the late Deem Bristow, the original voice of Eggman from Adventure to Heroes. And Lani Minella, voice of Rouge during that same time period. And there's also Steve Brodie, the voice of E-102 Gamma.
This game shares a lot of SA1/SA2 VAs.
My favorite part of Frogger: The Great Quest is when Frogger crawls into a tree for the sole purpose of parodying the Dagobah Cave scene from Empire Strikes Back.
When I watched this, the "Spoilers end at 21:57" splash screen happened to come up exactly at 21:57 local time, which was surprisingly creepy.
Every character looks like something from the butt ugly martians
Hé look l'île Murphy from rayman
That’s an insult to the show itself
Be honest the show was pretty ugly
One good thing about this game: An interesting review came out of it.
7:47
Freeza: “I crave the toes, my child”
Frieza is well known for his universal conquest of stealing toes
“Looking to suck Toes?”
“No- No thank you Broly-“
"How 'bout mine?"
The arc in DBZ where Frieza stole everyones toes and they had to confront him toe to no toe was my favourite.
Is that why he fights without using his hands?
He recently made his move on Phineas. :(
21:44 IS THAT A METAL GEAR REFERENCE ARE YOU KIDDING ME
It is Konami, after all.
Nothing will ever top "Hey! What is this? Metal Gear Frogger?!/Frogger Gear Solid?!" from Frogger Beyond.
You know I think the reason why you get so creeped out by the floating animation is because when you really look at it, it kind of looks like Frogger is hanging from an invisible noose.
Murphy discovered that they'll never release Rayman 4,So he décidéd to be in his own game.
Ugh. I've always passed by this..."iteration"...of Frogger on store shelves when I was younger. I always thought that he looked like a knockoff Wallace and Gromit character....
So, like a Flushed Away character?
@@gnbman Well, they are by the same animation team.
Yeah, even as a kid I never liked the whole 'Shrek' outfit.
I'm so sorry
looks like it was also badly optimized if it made the ps2 scream
I only got 2 levels in before realizing this game was complete ass, And I was practically a baby
@@saruarchive6285
It's also a blue disc, which are known to read slightly louder off the console than the standard discs-- at least in my case.

Believe it or not, this isn't the worst game I've ever played. I've experienced far worse than this. It's definitely high up on my gaming shitlist though.
“A frog looking frog”
*ah yes, the floor is made out of floor*
*ah yes, the frog is made out of frog*
I love how he immediately gets fed up with the dialogue at "before i bust"
4:48 this part blindsided me dude lmfao
Watching this review gave me a much better appreciation of Zapper. I've owned that game ever since I was a kid and my family's general consensus was that it was good but it "ripped off Frogger too much". Knowing that it was meant to be an actual Frogger game that Konami turned down in order to release this digital abomination makes the game so much better in retrospect.
Also "it's pretty much the Sonic '06 of Frogger" is such a funny line.
7:46 Dan Schneider would like to know your location
We don't talk about Dan anymore. :)
Your humor is absolutely on point in this episode, I was dying so much
16:00 of course the enemy is t-posing as he comes at you, he's asserting his dominance.
Funny how this game is declared as the "Sonic 06 of Frogger", but honestly, I think even Sonic 06 is better than this.
Well yea, atleast Sonic 06 has good things about it.
With 06 you can at least tell what it's going for. Also the story in concept is actually really cool and also has some really great moments. The animation is really good, some cutscene's are still quite impressive today. Not to mention some of that music.
@@MrMarinus18 TBH, I actually kinda like Sonic 06. Not nearly as much as other much better Sonic games, but I do still get enjoyment out of it.
At least 06 tried, right? Lol.
I remember seeing this game a long time ago back when Media Play was still a thing, and now I'm glad I avoided it
12:17 Those things look exactly like that one-eyed orange alien from "Planet Sheen".
Oh man, I remember watching that show. He was the skeleton guy's henchman I think.
"It is just like Rayman 2 " is one of the best catchphrases of this channel lol
I think This might be the First Ever Video that Nitro Rad Sacred me Straight at 4 in the morning P.S Love the Content you Make on UA-cam
"It looks like a bad DreamWorks movie"
I thought it looked like a good one. Or at least, somebody once told me that _they_ did.
Has somebody also once told you the world was gonna roll you?
“I wanna look up and down and all around”
Nice speed highway reference.
At 15.42, the effect you're seeing is likely the text renderer reusing a vertex list and the information being used about which vertex being part of which triangle (called the index buffer) becoming momentarily incorrect as new letters appear! It's not physics, but it's definitely a rendering problem.

“I wish I may I wish I must

The funny part about this whole thing is that I vividly remember having a new-age Frogger game for GBA, I think it was Temple of the Frog specifically. I also remember it being really good, if really frustrating. I can't wait to see your take on it.
There’s a lot of Sonic voice actors in the game
Huh, no wonder I heard the voice of the sphere from Sonic Adventure come out of the frog fairy’s mouth
No you didnt. Frog fairy was voiced by Lani Minela, the "orb" from SA1 (really Tikal) is a different actress
Well I’ll be damned
It's all because of a terrible accident
I got an ad for Ty HD on Switch on this video

Not gonna lie, I was kind of hoping for a twist ending where after the princess kisses Frogger, she then turns into a frog herself. 😂
And, by pure coincidence, her name is lilly. Like from swampys revenge?
Superfrog had an ending like that...way before Shrek did.
That's basically the plot of Disney's The Princess and the Frog.
Plus, something like this happened as a gag in an episode of CyberChase.

damn dude i'm surprised you didn't mention the absolutely horrifying skeleton boss in the cave level. it's so freaking weird when his like... head falls off and it was actually frogger or something? anyway, awesome video! glad to finally see someone else experience the absolute *masterpiece* that is Frogger's Great Quest.
Is there any subtitle more generic than “The Great Quest”?
Yes, "The videogame"
Revelations
The Huge Adventure which was used for the first Crash game on the GBA.
The Animation
The movie
"It looks like Frieza's coming to take your toes"
Dude. That made me laugh for five minutes.
I saw a man's will break into little tiny atom size pieces today

Amazing video as always!
The "bootleg glade of dreams" Dark Souls style area presentation was gold!
Dude I feel almost exactly how you do about this game. As a kid I figured it was just different from the other Froggers. But I grew up and realized "oh it is different...and bad". It's a game that sounds good on paper...and then Konami took that paper to people who were clearly on drugs or something lol.
You're one of the few youtubers that I can watch with my kids and all of us enjoy it.

Move over Limbo and Inside, this is now the most unnerving looking platformer I've ever seen.
Frogger: The -Great- Quest is giving me some Conker's Bad Fur Day vibes - only Frogger is (sadly) meant unironically.
Even ironically this games quality is still horrible. Doing something shitty ironically is still shitty.
