Flik pleading "No" and his scream from being murdered by the bird used to live in my 5 year old nightmares rent free.
Right? It’s not just a no either, it’s a “no no OH NO NO NO NO NO” too

The hopper "Game Over" scene still haunts me when I sleep.
Those are cursed I swear every game back then tried to have the creepiest/scariest game over screens ever!!!
I secretly threw a game away when the game over scene haunted me 🤣
@@TheTyisawesomeThese "Game over" screens have special charm to them, even if they are creepy sometimes. It's not abstract "you died", they show you that you failed for real, not only yourself, but also the other people around you.
The cherry on top is that’s just in the movie. That entire bit, and it works perfectly for a game setting
"Have you been playing all summer? You think this is a game!?" Hopper was such a scary and awesome villain. Lol
Didn’t have a memory card. Played the first 3 missions over and over, started my gaming rage. I was 5
Omg those were the days. Playing the first hour of a game over and over and trying to get that bit further before mom stops yelling across the house for you to shut off the Playstation and comes to watch you shut it off yourself. Then the day my dad came home from work with an 8mb card lol
I have the exact same memory lol

Well shit, this one was a certified childhood classic. I sucked at flying across that ravine on the dandelion
Forreal dawg! That is legit probably the hardest thing I have ever done in a game to date
This shouldn’t be the most relatable thing I have ever read but it absolutely might be lmao 😂
Yo sammmeee I was just telling my girl about that mission, stupid kid brain
Feel that one all the way😂😂😂I think my dad had to do it a few times for me, and then I eventually did get across the ravine without being pecked by that scary ass bird😂😂😂I made it to The Big Fly If I remember correctly in the rolling can. I remember this game being difficult at the time.
It was something I spent hours trying to master it. Once u get the hang of it tho this game was so addicting and fun
Flick goes to the city to find tough stronger bugs. Proceeds to mass murder the city inhabitants with the logic “If they die they are not tough enough”
Looking back on the game as an adult, I'm impressed at how ambitious and complex it is for a movie tie-in game. You really have to plan, think, and strategize how you're going to get the right berries, the right kind of plants to get all the power-ups and collectables, and how you're going to approach everything to get 100% completion. That's a lot for a 10 to 12 year old kid to take in, yet us 90's kids did it anyway!
Special mention also has to go to the music, which is fantastic; Disney movie games always had great soundtracks!
Nah, as a 10-12 year old (in the 90s) I never even considered the possibility I could finish a game without cheat codes. I was terrible at gaming :P I started finishing games in my 20s and I platinumed my first game, when I was 40 :D
Travelers Tales always went hard
Game: "Berry throw."
MindPulp: "What are these, apples?"
Ohhh I heard “belly throw” every time. And you do practice throwing your abdomen a few seconds later 😅
I never thought I'd ever here the line ' I keep throwing berries at Kevin Spacey, but he just won't die'.
Unfortunately you still can't.
@@splitman1129 Wasn't he acquitted due to lack of evidence?
also the juicy line in the beginning "wheres my food"? lol

Who remembers the knock off game that came with an apple. I'm talking early 2000s.
Flick panting for air when he was down to 1 health was a level of emmersion my childhood brain could not handle. I literally let my game run overnight to try and let him catch his breath.
That might be the purest thing I've ever heard.

Atlantis: The Lost Empire for ps1 has potential to be a new Mind Pulp classic
probably one of the best and one of my favorite game for ps1 just because i used to watch my dad play it and it was only ps1 game we ever beat on ps1

@@winklenatorYep, there was an Atlantis game for the PC. Atlantis: The Lost Games. I think that was the one, unless there was multiple Atlantis: The Lost Empire shovelware on the PC.
There was a demotion derby style minigame I played the shit out of as a kid.
I lost my memory card so I had to play that entire game in one sitting without saving. I've done it once and never touched the game again since I moved and lost the disk 😢

Still is 5 stars tbh
Every child had a hard time with the dandelion sequence and the Souls-Like bird battle. One of the first games that I played in 2000 on the PS1, lol. This and Toy Story 2. Good times.
you mean the fly battle
This level used to make me sooo anxious. The other one was the stampede level in the Tarzan game
The dandelion sequence wasn't too terribly hard, but trying to collect all the collectibles did get me the first few times. I really want to replay this game and actually 100% complete it.
Toy Story 2 was hard for me as a kid lol. Fun but hard. Another one I rented and never beat.
Wow this actually looks extremely good for PS1. There's almost no jittery textures, this is legitimately impressive
this has a smoothing effect, on the ps1 it looked way worse lol
I had it on n64.
It had slides instead of cutscenes and cut back on flick’s dialogue
The main thing it needs is a better render distance. Deep down I still want to replay it.

Brother we saved. When you die it goes back to the start regardless of your saves. The saves only work if you have lives left
@@MindPulp Brother, of cause the games boots your back to the main menu, most PS1 games do that on a game-over but if you have saved why did you not go to "load game" next to the tutorial to the left on the level select and end the game? You even selected it in the end! @28:49

As a kid I had a Hopper and Flick bank that fought when you added coins. One December in line for Santa I told another kid trying to cut me to "Remember your place in the food chain." I wasn't cut in line that's for sure!
i am so invested in this. im actually obsessed. a flick and hopper BANK that FIGHTS when u insert coins??? thats so fucking metal
Funny enough, I saw a video of that bank on Facebook earlier today.
28:39 No, it wasn’t PS1 games exclusively. It was just Disney PS1 games (and Crash Bandicoot 1 and 40 Winks). I literally have no clue why but almost ALL of them done this. Toy Story 2, Hercules, Bug’s Life, Tarzan, and Atlantis just to name a few.
I think it was to make it feel worthwhile. Games used to be about being so difficulty you’d have to pump coin after coin into an arcade machine to beat it. They just took that philosophy to consoles at first. Make a game so hard it can’t be beaten? That’s a game people are going to keep playing forever. Was the mindset.

There are species of jumping ants. Some have legs similar to grasshoppers, and some can snap their jaws so fast they launch themselves like slingshots

If you think this was terrifying as a kid imagine being took on the bugs life ride at Disney and giant animatronic spiders come down from the roof and sting you in a seat and spray you with bug spray. My parents were freaking out, kids were screaming, my dad was running and holding me trying to escape the ride. Safe to say it wasn't for kids

This was THE game of my childhood, and I would pay near infinite amounts of money for a remake that will never exist
The one time i played this game for like 1 hour was at a blockbuster video back in 1998, my tiny 10 years old ass was just running around like an idiot because i didn't knew what to do but it was fun. Thanks for the lost memory unlock my guy, what a great time to be a kid.
“They should call this ‘A Bug’s Death’” had me weak 😂
“I don’t think ants are designed for jumping” *out walks the Jumping Jack Ant ready for combat*
Pixar confirmed the two pillbugs are supposed to be Hungrian, but they didn't really make them real hungarian voicelines. Even in the move they just speak jibberish that kinda sounds like Hungarian.
I always figured they were French djhdh (figured they were supposed to be mimes)
This game was one of my favorites; I love how you have to find all the collectables, upgrading your seeds as you go, upgrading seeds and berries within the scope of every individual levels. It was especially exciting to see later levels reach even higher tiers of seed tech. All by finding tokens scattered in a level. Truly fun to me 🙂
Bug’s Life has a song called “A Place You’ve Never Been” but it was only on the kids audiobook from back then. I recommend looking it up, it’s catchy.
THANK YOU. I heard that song a long time ago and have been looking for it. Unfortunately "A bug's life song" just brings up stuff from the movie or this game.

The fact that the red berries didn't do nothing to certain enemies was bulshit
So the plot is Flick getting warrior bugs but in the contexts of the game Flick handled the Grass hoppers all on his own
So in the context of the game did Flick really need to find Warrior bugs? They just need Flick honestly

Watch it as an adult and see the systematic oppression the ants lived under via the hoppers
Kind of like how every average person is an ant and our governments that govern, tax and, control us are the hoppers.
I loved this game as a kid. Upgrading you berries, upgrading plants and combining them, collecting everything for 100% completion, the amazing soundtrack. This is peak licensed gaming!
The stand out song in A Bugs Life is La Cucaracha being sung in the grasshopper stronghold scene
5:50 that fact about ants isn't really that impressive. I can lift 5000 times an ant's weight. Not that hard.

I loved this game as a kid. The last level against hopper was made harder because your fellow ants would throw you the low-tier berries which Hopper can’t be damaged by and it replaces your high-tier berry
Knowing now that Hopper was voiced by Kevin Spacey made me realize how the actor has become more accurate as the character he played
I'm 37...My little brother is autistic...When I tell you I played these games over and over and over..I ain't kidding. He looooved Toy Story and any pixar movie. So, of course he had to play the games. Well, he would constantly call me into the room to beat things he couldn't, and that was very very very often.
