I own a Gocycle G4I for almost 2 months now and I am really happy how it performs. As a long test run with a single charge, I went from my city to Amsterdam and back which is almost a distance of 33 km using city mode. On that day I used the bike for 74 km, and I still had 30 % of battery when I arrived home. Pretty impressive.
Absolutely the best review on the G4. Well done 👍🏻 Mine will be here next Friday with more off road type tyres. I can’t wait. I’ve been following this bike’s evolution for 10 years and finally I get to own and enjoy one.
I just bought the G4i because of the larger battery, more informative display, but mainly for the Traction Control on the front wheel. I believe this is exclusive to Gocycle. Having a 26" folder with a 300w front hub drive previously, I was not going to make that mistake again. "There is hardly anything in the world that some man cannot make a little worse and sell a little cheaper, and the people who consider price only are this man's lawful prey." John Ruskin
This is one Remarkable bike Chris indeed! It is the best in this category. But the price on this, baby is steep.. 🤕 You get what you pay for though.. Hydraulic brakes, top notch build quality and superb range...
They did do a lot of custom molds and innovation, the price is understandable... But it they will have a hard time finding their customers with such deep pockets.... I appreciate the effort- there are so many thrown together standard component cycles out there, it takes companies like this to push other manufacturers to higher levels.
I suspect those whining about the price haven’t been in a bike shop for a while. You can easily spend £1500+ on a manual Brompton. The eBrompton is only a couple of hundred pounds less than this and this has been designed from the ground up as an ebike - and it shows. I’ve had a GS for over four years and it’s been faultless. Just back from a service and feels like new. Nice to know when spending a significant amount on an ebike that long term support will be there. Not sure if you can say the same about the new brands that are springing up. When collecting my GS I has the chance to try the G4 and I was amazed - it moves the game on significantly and the new motor is remarkable. If definitely justifies its price tag. One last comment on costs - my car costs about £500/year before it even leaves the drive. And let’s not forget petrol is sniffing round the £2/litre level. ebikes are making more and more sense for city dwellers…
Even if I had an old rusty Penny Farthing I couldn't get up onto the seat to ride and had to push it around all day, I'd be happy. What a beautiful place to live and cycle around.
4000 Euro, even with high inflation is a lot, especially with only 150 Watt motor in the front wheel. Also the readily small battery couldn't be that expensive.
@@carlosthejackel7581 that weighs 34kg, twice as much as the gocycle and appears to be very bulky. The point of the gocycle is to be light and compact.
I bought the G4i October 2021 and there’s some really good points . The G4i as no wires on show at all handling is really good. In November of last year the put all 3 g4 bikes up £1000 so I got mine for £4000 but it came without mudguards or front and rear lights. Now they come with mudguards and front and rear lights but they put them up £1000 if you total the cost of all that tits only £260 so what as the £740 gone on. It’s a very good bike but it cost way to much
I've just got a G4i and yes its a great bike. I'd like to mention that I got mine via a UK workplace salary sacrifice 'Cycle-Scheme'. This means you pay over a year and essentially get about 1/3 off the price i.e. tax free. I would agree about not being able to switch modes without the app and why can't the handlebar display actually show the speed, clock etc.? Overall though, it is a great 'bit of kit'.
Must have been tough handing this one back. Great bike but I'm not convinced there's a big difference with the Fiido X for less than half the price. The Fiido's hydraulic disk brakes and torque assist are simply superb and they have been responsive at resolving the small niggles like the rattling magnet. The Fiido's range is slightly better although it is about 2.2 kg heavier.
I had the original G1 gocycle around 10 years ago and that cost around £1k. How on earth can this cost 4 times that bike? This design is pretty much identical! Absolutely bonkers
@@cabaretampere honestly can’t recall. I no longer have the bike. That said I never once thought it took a long time to fold. Still think the price they’re charging today is unreasonable. But hey, that’s my opinion 🤷🏽♂️
Sure the frame is light weight, but that's what the $4000 price tag goes into. The battery pack is 291.6 Whr and for some reason the max speed is limited to 16mph.
thats a beautiful coastline there, where are you located? i love the bike , my only gripe like you is needing the app to select gears, otherwise its a fantastic design, cheers.
Thanks, it's Denia the med coast of Spain. As for the gears using the app yes it's a little of a hassle I don't really having to use apps for things all the time.
Noob question; do you need to use both of the brakes, or can you just use 1 side? I have mobility issues on my right hand so I wouldnt be able to use the right brake
You can just use the rear or the front but the braking distance would be longer of course. And be careful if it's just the front brake you don't want to brake too heavy on the front in the wet or loose gravel as the wheel could slip out from you.
@@Techtablets I am 190cm. I think it won't be that easy to ride, or very effective in high slopes. Can you tell me the max speed it reaches in a slope?
that is a great bike, I'm really considering ,specially with the UK cycle scheme. However, I'm looking to understand what other options I have. I looked at the bromptons as they are very famous, but for almost 3k GBP, they still use rim brakes, the battery is not built in, it just looks like a workaround ebike. Besides this one, what other folding ebike would you recommend?
CHRIS, what would you say it's the best cheapest 20" foldable bike under 1000 eur? AND also as second option until 1500 eur. Could be fat tire or cargo
You could yes but this has the quality of 3 x ado air bikes also if you look at it that way. It's super expensive but you do get.what you pay for! The Ado air is also very good for the price!
No, you can only ride it if you're not doing sport. You must sign a contract on purchase of bike stating "do not use Gocycle to do sport, warranty invalidated if you do sport"
Understand your enthusiasm, but the price is just too much. I live in a big city and often I need to lock my bike outside on public place when shopping. I had Fiido D4S and it was stolen. It costs me 550€. It still hurts, but cannot imagine if it costs me 5000€.
Yes it is mentioned as a con the price of it at the end. I was also worried about getting it stolen this loan unit. So never took my eyes off it every time I took it for a ride.
Overpriced and not very powerful in my opinion. Try out the Carbo X 20" foldable carbon fiber bike. It's 30 lbs and goes 25 miles per hour with a throttle. Much lighter and zippier and only $2800.
Yes it's not a cheap one and I normally review the $1k-1.5k foldables but it's nice to see now and then what the expensive top of the line bikes offer and it's a hell of a lot more but of course you're paying more for the features, top end materials and build.
Before November last year it was £2,999 they raised the price. The G4i as DRL daylight running light all cables are internal and the handlebar display is a little better; it did cost £3;999 but they put that up by £1000 sp now it cost £4,999 and the G4i+ just the same as the G4i but it as carbon wheels was £4,999 but is now £5,999.
