Thanks but my ADO Air 20’s seat broke and won’t stay in place so it’s basically unridable. Also the pedals broke off. It’s a bit mad that you still promote this, oh and ADO’s customer service is pretty bad too.
What I like about ElectroHeads videos is the daily, real world performance of the e-bikes. Yes, the Hill test is fun to watch, and sometimes Eilis navigating London traffic scares the b’jabbers out of me, but the rest is very informative, too. 😊
Finally a proper hill climb test! Now do Muswell Hill when you are in that area next time. About to fit the bafang h500 to my Brompton M6L. Bye, bye Sachs/SRAM 3 speed hub. Just need to decide on the chain ring and 2 sprockets sizes for both hill climbing up Swains Lane and blasting along the nearby A roads.
Another awesome review Eilis. It’s nice to see new content coming out with you in it as I know for sure it’s going to be fun with a lot of smiles and happiness in it. That’s pretty impressive for only 40 nm and would love to see what it’s like on the hills here in Cornwall. Keep up the awesome reviews as you are the one putting Electroheads on the map for everyone to enjoy ☺️
I'm interested in your results. I tried an Estarli e20 on a hill, my speed in level 5 assist dropped to 5mph. Don't know if I should blame the torque, my weight, the gradient or chronic fatigue syndrome.
Love my original air 20 been a great commuter for over a year now. Folds quickly to hop on a train and has handled rain and even a little snow with ease. Nice to see the pro upgrades.
Would it be possible to do a video of ease of removing wheels, especially the back wheel to repair punctures on bikes like these with rear hub motors? Thank you for great videos too😀
So did the bike downshift itself when you hit that steep grade and slowed? I assume that's how the two speed helped but you didn't actually explain that it did that. Auto shifting isn't always preferential if it doesn't have angle sensing or smart electronics that know when to downshift. Love the channel, your policy commentary, and fun practical reviews. Thanks Electroheads! Thanks Eilis!
that's been MY problem...supPOSED to have hit the warehouse this weekend and delivery next week...meanwhile, i've missed a month of potential riding(not every day since it was raining on some. i'm not eager to test it in the rain till i have a feel for how it works). i have NOT been happy with all of the delivery delays...hopefully they'll follow through this week...
Have had the ADO 20 Pro for the past 6 weeks and knocked out over 100 miles on it (the light blue colour). Granted I live in London, but Sport mode level 3, no issues with ANY hills nipping around SW London. Very quick off the mark (need to be a little careful of the front wheel lifting on occasion). Turn by turn navigation on the screen when paired with the ADO app is also pretty sweet. Have to admit, the magnets don't really hold together when transporting it folded. Happy riding!
I'm amazed at the battery differences. I got the regular ADO Air 20, and i usually get around ~90km range on a single charge. I keep switching between all of the assist levels (including turning it off sometimes, but rarely), but mostly using it on lv1 assist
40NM isn't enough without a throttle. I had a 40NW bike and it sturggled in Edinburgh with our hills. I required a throttle to manage the hills. The problem isn't going up the hill but stop/starts on a hill unless the torque is higher and/or you have a throttle.
I had a similar problem with my 50nm engwe L20 cargo ebike with hill starts in auld reekie. At 34k, it's a hefty bike to get moving even on the flat. Solution? Yes, enable the throttle for a powered and smooth move off. After that, pedal assist did the rest. It did Henderson St/Dundas Street up to George St. no problem. It even coped with The Mound up to Deacon Brodie's. Not fast by any means, but it didn't struggle. 👍 Cockburn St next LOL.
Oh, that area brings back memories, 1980s.. didn't cycle unfortunately tho.. Now seriously looking at the e-folding range and ADO is near the top of my choice.. [Edit}: The folding option sounds great to me coz it enables us to use trains, for example, to bypass urban sprawl/expansion and hit the Green Belt directly.. Great review🙂👍
I love my Ado, the first version, it just keeps going! It only gets strenuous when driving uphill, but otherwise, I've always managed! I will soon buy the new Ado Carbon!!!
Excellent entertaining review for real world riding. Although I don't live in England, in Australia we suffer the same regulations. At 25kph I am the slowest on my commute to the city. Manufacturers seem to exaggerate potential distance however if you have a flat area and ride casually 25% below maximum speed then I'm sure those figures can be close. Again that isn't practical in reality. but if you plan on an extended ride it is worth knowing.
Thank you & well done Eilis on your informative & 'to the point vids.' I used to live in East Finchley so I know Swains Lane well! However. Where do I find an ADO dealer in London??? It would be brilliant if you could help with this info. Thanks again, thanks in advance & keep up the good work.
all reviews i see concentrate on the bike itself (and rightly so) i'd like to see reviews on how to deal with bags and luggage and how the luggage rack factors in all of this. also what alternative ways for handling luggage are there? i.e. a carrier on the front ball head or something like that?
Hi there, have you considered to test drive the Eovolt e-bike, foldable? I would love to know what you think of that. We are considering getting the afternoon V3 one (vintage) or waiting for the afternoon Pro version coming out in September. kind regards, Gerrie from the Netherlands
You want to check out Electric Unicycles... It might require a learning curve, but you won't break into a sweat at all... and mileage to suit your needs... ... If the weather is really wet and windy... you can just take it on a bus, in a taxi, on the train like a suitcase... the smallest ones will even fit in a backpack...
Another great real world test. Liked the incline graphic also.Their range claims even on repeated testing on flatter roads fell well short I feel. But another great option on the e-Bike market otherwise.
I enjoyed your 🚲e-bike video, that's an impressive hill for sure! Stumbled on your channel, going to check out some of your other videos, new subscriber🤙 from NEK VT! Stay safe, God Speed!
Very interesting real world analysis of a great bike. Really enjoy how you approach the whole balanced review process. But, 65kg? - I weigh 5kg more, but I dont look a tenth as poised as you do when riding. How does that happen? Really like the bike though, good looker, all the right kit, good battery lock. Great video.
Thanks for all your test! I'm new with Ebike and try to find the perfect one! Do you think this one could fit for a small flat travel for works but also for trip with my son on rural road not necessary flat? Thanks ! Thumbs up and follow :)
I am glad i live in Paris, these bike lanes look so dangerous in London and most roads seems to be lacking them, most bike lane should be completely separated from traffic when its possible, this is the best way to protect 2 wheelers, also these buses seem to be going quite fast around cyclist
as a dutch person i find paris, dangerous, but then our bike path system is so different from both paris and london. And yes they should be seperate from regular road traffic, but police should also enforce the traffic rules better, so people do not overtake so close and fast as the buses did in the video.
@@abelfaber4457 paris has improved a lot these last 2 years also our subway network is rather impressive which is also a good way to erase some cars from the city
Compared with a Brompton it is still, only a ½ Folder, and it needs an extra opening in the frame to be able to use a belt! And for a long time I didn't know for what use I had the low gears, of 6, on my Brompton, till I met an absurd Danish hill and had to walk on top! But riding intensely and being able to walk faster going up, seems at best, a little funny😁! Finn. Denmark
So where I live ADO AIR 20 costs 1499 euro while the pro for 1799. If you add up all the extras like racks and mudguards it is very similar priced. But in all honesty I do not know how I feel with an automatic shift, what if it breaks?
Hi🤗 i'm new here, checked your vidplaylist for ecargobikes...none what so ever, how that come? Very tiny scooters to big cars, and no cargobike? Or do you have a separate channel for ecargobike, that i did'nt see? No one i shorts either🥴 Will u do some off these? It's a big market out there😏
Hey! I still cannot decide which is the best option: the Air 20 or the Air 20 Pro. I am looking for a bike that I can easily take on public transportation and in the car. I saw your video where you commute with the Air 20 in bus, tube, train. And it looks easy to handle. But the Air 20 Pro is much heavier, isn't it? Thx for your opinion! ;-)
My last bike had a leaver, so I would not have to pedal I have problems with my legs, does the Ago have got to pedal of I have, can you please tell us which bike s have a leader so we don't have to pedal
Combined gearbox/motor is definitely the way manufacturers ought to go for compact, suburban bikes with hub motors. I am assuming that the rider gets the benefit of the gearing as well as the motor. If not, I'm not quite so impressed. Shimano is the company I'd pick to develop such things as they have expertise in both motors and hub gears. It "just" has to be done in a way that doesn't make the rear of the bike too heavy and it also must be robust.
Oh...... and of course! I like Eilis! That never will change! Ledgends never will die!
How do the two speeds compare to the original Ado Air 20? Are they either side of the original gear? or is one similar and the other is higher or lower?
Yup need more info. Chain wheel and sprocket sizes for both bikes - the original and the pro. Never enough useful info in these videos but then this triggers more research. More tech info would save time and make better videos.
I just cant decide which e-bike should I buy since each video encourages me to buy that bike! Question; what about Fiido Carbon which is 13,7kg bike and DJI´s new e-bike?
I have the original ado air 20. I think the non pro version is perfect for a normal city commute. However I do think it lacks power over steep inclines, especially steep inclines over longer distance. This is also where the single gear becomes an issue, as you can't just go down a gear. So I just end up brute force pedalling up 😅. To be clear, it's great for normal commute or the occasional hill (like a bridge), which is perfect for my use. But it does have drawbacks depending on your individual circumstances.
The problem for me is a bike at this price range would take me 10 years to pay off in saved diesel cost. A while ago having seen an evrc episode about a "budget" e-bike at £600, I worked out that even at £600 it would take 2 years of riding to work 5 days a week at my car's MPG to break even. I work hybrid so go to the office less than that which makes the payback longer and then there is also the weather, I'm not gonna ride it in rain or snow. So 10 years is a conservative estimate for a bike north of £1500. Where are the budget e-bikes? Everything is so expensive, I couldn't possibly justify spending over £300.
This company uses dynamic pricing so the price will literally change by the day or even on the same day sometimes. Have been researching this bike for a few weeks and the website price has fluctuated between $1199 if I remember and today's price of $1226.
I'm interested in these bikes but what puts me off is back from these ebike companies if you have a problem and where to get them serviced. Great review though.
Man do I have a different A20 to everyone else? My knees are killing me on hills and I have to change gears to the highest. Admittedly I am not the fittest! But still, this make it seem like a doddle
battery on the seat post means you cannot put a seatpost suspension to lessen the bumps of being a hard tail bike (no rear suspension). seat post suspensions are usually what i prefer with folding bikes like these because they always lack rear suspension to keep it portable and lighter. the motor is underpowered, but i guess the use case is lightweight that you can pedal if you run out of battery. however i would prefer the velotric fold 1 over this because you can put a suspension seatpost because the battery is in a different spot, is ipx rated water proof for rain, 120 lbs rear rack weight capacity, still lean and lightweight enough to pedal without power, folds well, has more power than this motor.

battery on the seat post means you cannot put a seatpost suspension to lessen the bumps of being a hard tail bike (no rear suspension).
seat post suspensions are usually what i prefer with folding bikes like these because they always lack rear suspension to keep it portable and lighter.
the motor is underpowered, but i guess the use case is lightweight that you can pedal if you run out of battery.
however i would prefer the velotric fold 1 over this because you can put a suspension seatpost because the battery is in a different spot, is ipx rated water proof for rain, 120 lbs rear rack weight capacity, still lean and lightweight enough to pedal without power, folds well, has more power than this motor.
has it got a carbon belt though?
Has anyone bought the ADO AIR 20 from ADO's site? If so what is your experience? and what about the warranty.
