Hi and welcome to our channel Beetin' Genes! We are two sisters/best friends living in Albuquerque, NM. We share a passion of health, wellness, family and the love of a whole foods plant based lifestyle.
In 2015 we both discovered we had been born with an extremely rare genetic mutation, CDH1. It puts us at an 75% chance of developing Hereditary Diffuse Gastric Cancer and a 46% chance of Lobular Breast Cancer.
In April 2020, Polly had a bilateral mastectomy and will be having a total gastrectomy in March 2022. Taylor is currently pursuing mastectomy.
Even though we have taken the approach of preventative surgeries we feel that eating a clean, balanced, plant based, organic, diet is imperative for a healthy lifestyle. And may help to prevent cancers in other parts of our bodies.
We hope that we can motivate others who may have genetic disorders, chronic illnesses, or just a health goal they want to reach. Follow us and we can work on being the best we can be - together!

2024 Healthy Seed Oil Free Trader Joe's Haul
Check out my weekly Trader Joe's Haul. Here I show you what I typically get at my local Trader Joe's during my weekly visits. I shop organically (when it's available), and seed oil free. This means absolutely zero inflammatory canola, soy, sunflower, safflower, grape seed, cottonseed, or corn oils. I spent exactly $122.00 on this haul.

How are you now
Thank you for being honest
Thank you immensely for sharing your experience with us🙏. I’m having the same procedure as you in 2 weeks. After watching your documentation, I’m not as nervous now since I know what to expect and how to prepare myself for the procedure before and after. Wish me luck🙏
Wishing you well on your procedure. 🙏🏻❤️
Ayo.. what's with the hole man...
Very helpful! Thank you!
Shame you are not in a country with socialised medicine. Wouldn’t cost you one cent in the uk.
Thank you for this review! Everyone’s body is definitely different ❤
Why I don’t bother making all the things!
Thank you for sharing ❤
Courageous.
I am curious how old your mother is. I am 61 and already commented here.
Our mom is 70. ❤️🙏🏻
Garden of Life was bought out by Nestle, it’s a crap product. Good luck with this one because it’s going to give you even more pain.
She was surely paid by garden of life . This is why UA-cam sucks now 😢
Complement has had me waiting for my vitamins for over a month now. Every time I email them they have excuse after excuse…… terrible company
Very nice
I love the vanilla bean and the chocolate. I use almond breeze chocolate milk and mix it in a blender with ice. Keeps me full for a few hours.
Which one better .
I checked out your bra on Amazon and it’s sold out darn
Thank you for sharing funny about the dry lips thing I am one week post op still trying to figure things out thank you again for sharing ps you’re so pretty
You look beautiful! Thank you for this. ❤
Thank you for these videos, very helpful.
Hi, I just find out last week that I have the same mutation as you Last year I was diagnose with a lobular breast cancer. The doctors told me it is better to remove the somach and breast also. Thank you for sharing your story, you are helping me during this phase
Hi Cristy, sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Just want you to know that there are new guidelines coming out in October of this year. Please let your doctor know about this.
Truvani is the only protein powder that I can find that does not contain Stevia or some other fake sugar. Yes, its a tad expensive. Garden of Life contains Stevia. Sorry you had this experience.
Did the NIH pay for this portion? Stomach removal, etc?
Yes
Very cute. Thank you for sharing.
Going to be finding out results soon. My 37 year old aunt just died from stomach and breast cancer 2 months after finding out diagnosis. Uncle died in his early 40’s of stomach cancer. Grandfather has colon cancer. 2 uncles have tested positive and both have children. I have 2 children and I’ve been having stomach issues. Waiting for my dads results and have a CT scan in a couple days… I’m terrified beyond belief. Giving myself panic attacks because I’m convinced it’s too late for me… because that’s where our brains go right? Please pray for me, my sister, my uncles, and my children.
Praying for you. Thank goodness you learned you are carriers so something can be done. CT scan does not pick up this cancer unless I’m advanced stages.
@@BeetinGenes I have a colonoscopy/endo next month! Because I don’t have my results yet my doctor ordered both. I’m glad at least I’m hopefully tumor free from what they saw. Praying my results are clear. Thank you!
Very informative video for those who are going for breast operation.
You were so lucky that the Dr. gave you something up top. I woke up to NOTHINGNESS. It was horrible. I had over a year of terrible mental health, with crying every day and some days crying all day. I couldn't convince myself that I was a female. Finally got to a counselor, that didn't help either. Had my phase 1 DIEP flap last September. That was a miracle. I'm finally a female. I can wear a nightgown to bed.
It definitely can take a toll on your mental health. I knew I didn’t want to be flat. I don’t think I would have good body image. I really admire the women who can stay flat. That’s amazing you did DIEP flap. That’s such an intensive and serious procedure, but you now have your own body tissue instead of a foreign object in your body. I hope it was worth all of that trouble. You did it! Good job!
Hi, any updates on Marie?
Unfortunately, Marie passed away shortly after this interview 💔🙏🏻

@@BeetinGenes dang. I was hoping she could pull through. She seemed like such a nice person. RIP.
You look great... keep it up
When I did my flush two days ago, I WAS CRAVING THE OLIVE OIL AND LEMON JUICE. No joke! The Epsom salts were disgusting though. Rinsing mouth out with grape juice before and after Epsom salt and then spitting it out can help.
That’s so disappointing to hear that you had that experience. The main reason I love Truvani so much it’s because they do not use Stevia. I have microscopic colitis flares, as well as IBS. Fake sugars are no no for me, but the fact that they use monk fruit instead stevia. Is a win win for me. I have so many gut issues Truvani calms my stomach. I used to use Garden of life, that was one of my first protein powders that I enjoyed, but it caused me so much bloating. It’s crazy how certain products affect everyone differently and it’s amazing how there’s so many varieties of products out there.
I’m considering switching over to just hemp and chia seeds. Something that isn’t processed at all because I do have bloat and I’m sure the protein powder is related.
@@BeetinGenes I will say. Most American diet lacks fiber. Once I increased my fiber and water intake my gut feels so much better. Chia seeds and flax seeds really helped my fiber intake. I cannot eat a lot of raw veggies. Good luck to you
Add the tomatoes anytime you want. Love the quick format. We all know what it is and we don't want to spend 15 minutes watching someone cut, peel, chop and explain..nice format..
Love these ideas. How’s that Mac? Do the kids like it? I’m hoping to find the churro chips too
I did mastectomy LD flat surgery last month.
the question is how long have you been living without a stomach, I'm 5 months into recovery and it's going very hard, I'm not sure if I'll succeed, how long did it take you to recover?
I am nearly 2 years. What is happening. Why do you say you won’t succeed? 🙏🏻
I don't know, recovery is difficult, luckily I didn't have cancer but gastroparesis, so they had to remove it, how did you feel after 5 months, I have a stool once but always rare and soft and frequent nausea?
Your videos are so illuminating
The worst for me was the epson salt water … that was horrible .. grapefruit olive oil wasn’t bad at all but it was so much by that time of the night I felt so full.
I got gastrioparesis and before it was under control was hell on earth...if it comes back I wouldn't mind to have them taking out my stomach... videos like yours give me hope that is that ever happen I will be okay
You don't stay overnight! Omg!
Great recipe just keep in mind that when your buying the 505 green chile it comes in mild, medium and hot so buy according to your personal heat profile. Also, we in New Mexico traditionally use pinto beans in our stews and soups.
i don't think ur flush worked. Those apparently are not stones, stones will not float and a lot of people get the green blobs and mistake them as stones. Goodluck trying agian
This video gave attacking another influencer vibes just off one smoothie you made. Cause the suggested uses on the back of the bottle gives 3 ways to make it work based on preference. Not sure why you kept name dropping.
Thanks for your input 👍🏻
Let me ask you a question...let say that you are sitting in a pak right now...how does reality feel after all this time not to have an stomach... when i was suffering from my gastrioparesi,i feel like taking my stomach out....i was thinking " it can't be fucking worse"
I feel very normal now. No issues. Can eat just about anything. 🙏🏻❤️
So glad to hear that...see you in your next video
She is so funny. I liked this interview.
Can you be a vegan post gastrectomy?
I remained vegan for 1.5years after TG. But then I started wearing a continuous glucose monitor about 5 months ago and learned that it’s not benefiting my blood sugar. Too many carbs. Pasta, bread, rice, grains…. Spike and drop blood sugar. (I do t have symptoms) Unfortunately I’ve had to start incorporating meat again after 7 years of being vegan. 😭💔
Apparently, she is not ready yet to have her gastrectomy.
She actually had her gastrectomy 1.5 years ago.
The sound was so bad, I couldn't understand anything😳
😰
I spent an entire month with horrible nausea,24/7.... because of my GP....I understand exactly the hell you went through
Horrible! 😰
I just found out I carry the CDH1 mutation. I am a 61-year-old female. My sister died from stomach cancer 2 years ago. No one else has had stomach cancer, and I haven't heard of anyone having lobular breast cancer. I really don't want to have a gastrectomy. I also don't think endoscopies with biopsies are a good idea. I believe I could have indolent cells but if biopsies are continually taken may start a process that would otherwise not happen. I was told if I notice pain or something different to then have the gastrectomy. I have read too much about this mutation which has caused horrible anxiety for sure. You are both quite a bit younger than I am although I am very physically strong. I know Polly had a gastrectomy but I don't know if Taylor has. Are you glad you did this?
Hi Sandra, So sorry to hear of your sister. 🙏🏻❤️. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. This is a very difficult diagnosis. These cells are very sneaky. With that said, Taylor and I are not experts on CDH1 or gastrectomy. We recommend you seek care at a center of excellence. One that is versed on CDH1. I, Polly had a TG after 7 years of surveillance. Taylor still has her stomach. I am very grateful I moved forward with TG. Life is pretty normal for me and I don’t have the stress that came with surveillance. (I was 46 when I had my TG) Who is doing your screening?
@@BeetinGenes I just found out I carry the CDH1 gene 2 weeks ago. I don't agree with the biopsies for surveillance. I am thinking about total gastrectomy and have been texting with Thad Hamilton about this. I have seen your videos, and it seems you have done well following your gastrectomy. I have been doing medical transcription for 23 years and never heard of the CDH1 mutation. I have been reading about it. The percentages of who might actually get HDGC are all over the place. The gene has only been discovered in 1998 so fairly new. I have talked to a genetic counselor and my medical provider. I am looking to find a surgeon who has done many gastrectomy surgeries as a possible plan in the future. I don't have any symptoms and am going to the gym and trying to eat healthy. I almost wish I had not been tested, it was my idea, as I think and worry too much now about this.
What are the ramifications of letting the HDGC progress to the point that it's detected on an endoscopy- is it just that it moves so fast that you're unlikely to catch it right at stage 1, and it could already be stage 3-4 when it first becomes visible?
Hello Lucien, The key is to capture the cells with surveillance so that a skilled pathologist can visualize them and ‘stage’ them. These cells are diffuse and not necessarily seen until advanced. With that said, I am not an expert. We recommend you seek care at a center versed in CDH1. Have you reached out to no stomach for cancer? They may have more/better answers for you. We wish we had more answers for you. There will be new guidelines coming out this year. Have you spoken to a genetic counselor? Who is your doctor? Are you receiving care at a center of excellence?
@@BeetinGenes Thanks for the reply! I found out about my CDH1 mutation via a free mail-in test and the genetic counselor with that company just recommended seeing a gastroenterologist. I do have an endoscopy scheduled next week at a local center in town but depending on how it goes I can for sure reach out to No Stomach for Cancer. I’m not sure if every endoscopy center does the 30+ biopsies or however many are recommended for the diffuse type, they might just be glancing around for anything noticeable to biopsy. Mostly I’m nervous that they’ll find something very visible and late stage since I’ve never looked into it before 😅
